Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

Well...

I'm experimenting with maps. I suck at them, so I really have to practice at them. I just got RMVX because I heard of the triple layers. I thought it would help me come up with some interesting maps. I severely doubt it, but I figured I'd try anyway.

I wanna make a convincing maze for once. Really. I wanna have a chance at getting the player lost. My mazes are horrible, as are my puzzles. They always seem so obvious to the player.

I'm disappointed with myself right now. I go back to play my old games and I hang my head in shame.

Universal Cooking System

Wow, Nick! I thought I was going to need a script for this! Great job!

Game Drive Week 03

Well yesterday I was setting up monsters all afternoon. I want to get those buggers out of the way. I hate making monsters over all, I find it to be one of the most boring parts of the whole shindig. Except bosses. I LOVE making bosses, muhahaha. But not every mook can be a boss.

I wanna have a monster that's much like the Dragon Quest series' slime that will kinda become the defacto mascot for the whole thing... as the project is called Angel's Food Cake, it'll most likely be an angel of some sort. Why? I dunno. FF has their chocobos and cactuars and tonberries, etc. Dragon Quest has slimes and drackys and other awesome monsters people instantly recognize with their series, too... I wanna have that one monster that people go "OMG! That's from ! I remember that thing!" I wonder what Akira Toriyama thinks when he overhears people say that?

I have Twiggy... it's a walking twig with eyes and two leaves... -______- It's not impressive at all.

The character pages are made in the database. I should make skills soon. Because it makes little sense - now that I think about it - to make monsters that have no skills...

The Great Switch: Why VXP is Better

I'll put my two cents in.

*sigh* Okay. What happened to people not caring about graphics in their games? I mean all this talk about the old school crowd out there saying graphics don't matter, and then we come to a discussion like this one? I'm kinda confused, actually.
Because the same old school crowd takes it to an extreme and insults games that have good graphics. Rehashed Chrono Trigger and FF6 rips will always get more attention than original resources. The same goes for story and gameplay, too, but that's another topic entirely.

I don't care if someone uses RTP. It's better than snatching resources from a published well known game out there to me. like I remember playing a game on here and getting to a castle at some point where it had the background music of Baron Castle from FF4. I'm like, "Ummm. no. Please." I'd rather hear the RTP music than stolen music, and the same with the graphical aspects, too. There was another game that had all Fire Emblem faces. I knew the characters those faces originally belonged to. It felt like a warped, playable fanfic. Maybe that's just me.

Amen. If I see a game with rips or music I recognize from another game, that's a guaranteed turn-off for me. I prefer to see the RTP or RTP edits.

As for the lack of tilesets in VX, yes, I agree. I want to make a game set partially in modern day, and partially in a fantasy world. Can I do that with RTP VX graphics? It'll take some tweaking, but I don't see an apartment complex coming out of the RTP tilesets very well. *shrug*

There are plenty of modern graphic sets for XP's RTP that look fantastic.

Overall, using VX is fun for me. I like the easy concept of putting a chest or a door there. So you can focus on more important things!

That's what I don't understand about the 2k/3 crowd. You can do anything you could before in XP and VX, except it's easier, more efficient, more modular, and infinitely more customizable. Why would you willingly limit yourself and make it harder on yourself when you could make the exact same game with 1/4 of the effort and a tenth of the frustration?

It's depressing looking at some of the better 2k3 games and thinking about how much better they could have been with scripts.

Now, hold on. In 2K3, could you right click in edit event mode and automatically build an event for you that's a door or a treasure chest? I never used 2k3 in any depth at all. I have it on my computer now just to tinker and see what's there.

Problem: I all ready paid for VX. I'm not shelling out for XP again.

I like RMVX. I have to have a lot of help with scripts, but I like RMVX. The reason? All the cool shit you can do with it! I went from working with RM2k to Asa and his brothers finding demos of the newer RM games. When I looked VX up and saw all the things we could do with it, I was OMG! I WANT! Eventually, all four of us in our group got it for our computers, and thus never looked back.

Now that I have Windows 7, I can't even use RM2k! It makes me sad. It just won't run for some odd reason. So I have now the RM2k3, which I barely ever used and really know nothing about... and RMVX.

I don't mind the simplicity of the map-making because I don't think that's the most important part of the whole thing. What we should be more focused on is creativity in other points and seeing more games actually finished at some point. I know we're all tired of seeing RTP, but I think because a lot of people aren't getting paid and have lives other than their game-making, then seeing RTP often should be expected. I know that it can get frustrating trying to make your own graphical resources from experience. It takes me an entire afternoon, while having to take care of my house and my kids, to make one sprite. That is time consuming as all get-out.

Sorry I ranted there.

Are you happy with how your life has turned out?

Actually, there are a lot of things in my life that I don't like, but most of them I cannot change as they are the past. I struggle daily with being bipolar and having violent mood swings, and I'm the mother of two very special girls that really deserve more of my attention than they get. I'm extremely lucky that the man I married has been more than understanding with me through all of this, as most people get scared and run away. When things don't go right, I have bad habit of either going into a spasm or totally freezing up. I don't know how to handle myself a lot, and that leads to many people not able to be around me very long. People I know online tend to say they think differently of me, but I think that's because instead of in normal conversation I can type out what's on my mind - expand it carefully and re-read it before I post it anywhere. While talking, I don't tend to think on my responses as much because people don't like it when you can't come up with anything to say to them. Needless to say, this has built up in me a phobia of meeting new people, and it leaves me feeling kinda lonely. The only people I know that don't have a problem with my lack of social skills are my little girls.

I have to say that I like being a stay-at-home mom with them, though. We read stories and color and they watch me play video games like normal kids watch cartoons. Anna just turned three and she loves Pokemon. <3 Her favorite movie is Mulan. Jade doesn't talk at all, but she loves to play... they are what makes me feel my life is worth it. My dad used to say that every day he could get up and hug his kids is a good day, and now I understand that.

Many of the choices I made in my life were bad. I've done some pretty mean things over the years. But overall, life isn't that bad, it could just use a few improvements.

Glad I could be of help really :)

And I will take on your offer when I need something, for now just go on with the project :D

Yes, sir! ^_______^

What Suzu does when she's not here (which is all the time XD)

Thank you guys.

My problem with putting pictures in is that it feels like it's putting them in just to take up extra space. I don't want pictures to interrupt my ranting, hahaha.

Oh, wow, Canuck. Thank you for being honest with me.

DQ9 and FF13 on sale for $17 on day after American Thanksgiving

DRAGON QUEST 9 AT $17?!!!

Time to go bother Asa.

hmm in windows, to find (and change) screen resolution, gop to the desktop, right click on the wallpaper area then click "properties" - then go to configurations and there you find screen resolution, try higher numbers and see what happens :)

Hope this helps, otherwise try reinstallation of VX...

I had it on the highest numbers available, but I found out that I had the window sizes on medium and that's what made everything so much bigger.

OMG THANK YOU, CLEST!!!! :D

I have been confused about this for ages. That made it just big enough to fit. I think at one point I must have made the thing bigger because I'm farsighted and it was hard to read some things. I'll just zoom on my internet now~

If you need help with ANYTHING, man, tell me! I will be more than happy to help you if I can!
