Description

RPG Maker VXAce is the latest release in the RPG Maker series. Like its predecessors, the engine is a tile-based point and click engine tailored towards creating traditional RPGs.

RPG Maker VXAce runs in its own 544x416 resolution. Unlike it's counterpart, RPG Maker VX, it allows the same mapping functions as RPG Maker XP with the only limitation being 3 layers being available (vs. 4 in RMXP).

RPG Maker VXAce has a rich interface similar to RPG Maker VX with a few more built-in features. The default battle system is a frontview system reminiscent of RPG Maker 2000 with static front-facing monsters and invisible player characters. However, unlike it's predecessors, this time the engine allows unique formulas for Skills and Items. It also restored one of its prominent features from RPG Maker 2003 such as skill subsets and more. With the improved RGSS3, which is rumored to be using Ruby 1.9 as a base, different battle systems are possible to implement and visual presentation would certainly be faster and less lagged.

RPG Maker VX Ace supports graphical assets in PNG form with alpha channel support, audio files in OGG, MP3, and MIDI format with the capability of setting loop start points for OGGs, and playback of videos in OGV format.

RPG Maker VXAce games can be packaged so that they can be played on any Windows machine without requiring the engine or RTP to be installed. However, the standard runtime package (RTP) for RPG Maker VXAce is publicly available for download on the Enterbrain website, allowing distributed games using default resources to have small file sizes.

The program's EULA allows games to be sold commercially.

RPG Maker VX Ace has a Japanese release date of December 15th, 2011.
It will have an English release date of March 15th, 2012.
It will cost $90 USD.

I will not use RPG Maker VX Ace until the real 100% english version is released.
i really like it, but i don't understand Japanese (o really?).
I hope desert eagle translate for brazilian languale as he did in XP and VX.
My english is a SHIT! LOL.
" ...544x416 resolution..."I want this...IT WILL WORK ON MY COMPUTER! YES! FUCK YEAH, HELL YEAH! YAHOO!!!!
They better bring this one over to the states. If not then they are fools!

They would be crazy not to release it in English. I mean, don't we account for at least some of the sales they make off this limited-advertised program?
It's been announced that it will get an English release, we just don't know yet.

Also, there's no special goodies if you get the Japanese version unless you order from the EB store which you get a remastered version of a rpg maker and a lot of remastered music! If you don't care about that just download it from amazon!
Hn, its bad, thats all I'll say. Its like a mixture of XP and VX... I think they'll be releasing an XP Ace or something next...
Its good, yeah, but now their just releasing new versions of the RPG Maker just for the sake of it... At least, thats what I think...

The fact that it uses ruby 1.9.2 is more than enough for people to upgrade to ace.
Seems to be an upgraded RMVX... other than supporting a newer version of the script language and some other additional features, there doesn't seem to be much difference.

Nevertheless, will perhaps use this over VX. Hopefully the current VX scripts will work in RGSS3. Afterall, some XP scripts worked in VX.
If this is the 2003 of VX then we should be able to convert VX projects to VXAce projects. After all, Ruby 1.9 should just be able to handle VX scripts, but iron's out the glitches present in the VX scripts.

Nope, RGSS3 is practically handled a different way than rgss 1 and 2, it's because it's not an edited version of ruby or better terms as a hack job.

There's many changes with windows, scenes, handlers, and the addition of using managers to handle things complicates a easy vx>ace transfer.

If you were lucky enough to only event than guess what? Your project can be transferred to ace by manually copying it over, with those that scripted you have to completely recode your scripts. There's no getting around that.

Also, I preferred 2000 over 2k3, had more patches.
This might be a stupid question, but how do you import MIDI files into Ace? At least in the trial version, MIDI files don't show up from the list if you go to import music. I'm sure I can just drag the files I want to the project folder, but considering the trial doesn't let you close and reopen a project, I'm not sure this is a viable solution. Can you import MIDI files in the full version?
Hmmm... by allowing unimited tiles, I may have to try this out when the English release happens. Loving the changes to the menu functions as well.
The limited tile sets are why I never purchased VX in the first place, with that issue resolved, I am certainly willing to give VX Ace a try upon release.

I just wish they'd add a simple option for side view battle systems though. That was one of the greater improvements 2K3 had over 2K. It was idiotic to go back to the lufia-esque battle system.
I'm a little confuzzled on how you set up random encounters in this, it was easy in VX, but now they made it a little different in VXAce. X_X; This will be good knowledge to know for when I get the actual version.
Hello. I'm still planning my RPG project - now have the rough outline of the story, world, major characters etc.

Anyway, my trial period with Ace has run out and I have a question about buying it (which I still plan to do through RMN, of course). Is there a limit to the number of computers I can use it on?

EDIT: Found the answer through a bit of web searching -- the EULA says 1 installation at a time.
