3rd Place: Dead Moon Night by Fomar0153 and Indra

Judges' comments forthcoming.

First and foremost, thanks to Archeia_Nessiah for the wonderful event page CSS!

October's already here! It sure did sneak up on us like a creepy crawly black widow spider, fangs poised for a nasty, venomous bite! Like all arachnaphobes, we sprang to our feet, panicked, and tripped over the night stand decided that we're overdue for another month-long game development contest!

The Theme? Anything related to Halloween! Horror, trick-or-treating, zombie attacks, ghosts...it's your call!

This is a very broad theme: as long as the game is in the spirit of Halloween, you'll be fine. Feel free to ask if you don't think your game applies to the theme. You may use any game development engine. Additional rules are listed below.

The deadline is 12pm UTC on Halloween4pm UTC on November 3rd. A panel of judges will play each game and rank the top three entries. Users may vote for their favorite game once the contest is over; voting will be handled through this page. Results will be announced via podcast. It's the All Hallows' Event...or, I guess you could say, the Nightmare Before Halloween!

Step 1: Sign up for the contest in the "Registration" section below this event description. You can enter this event solo or as a team. Additionally, you may submit as many games or join as many teams as you'd like.
Step 2: Create your game page. Normal submission rules apply.
Step 3: Post your download to the game page once it's approved.
Step 4: Submit your game download to the contest by using the commands on the upper-right corner of this page.

Winner: Patron Spirit of Halloween Achievement (worth 100 makerscore), an LP from one of the judges, a review from one of the judges, and a free copy of RPG Maker VX Ace.
2nd place: Ragdoll Love Interest Achievement (worth 75 makerscore), an LP from one of the judges, and a review from one of the judges.
3rd place: Duckbilled Evil Scientist Achievement (worth 60 makerscore) and a review from one of the judges.
Voters' choice: Two-Faced Mayor Achievement (worth 100 makerscore).
Participation (including judges): Sadistic Sack's Shadow Achievement (worth 50 makerscore).

(Feel free to nag the judges until you get your review.)

  • Only completed games are allowed! No demos!
  • Preexisting resources may be used, but no games that were started before the beginning of the event are allowed.

  • There is no limit on team size; you may also work alone.
  • You may submit as many games and join as many teams as you'd like.
  • Judges' entries will not be ranked, but they will still quality for the voters' choice achievement.

  • Only one VX Ace copy is available - please take this into account if you're on a team.
  • If the winner does not want VX Ace, s/he will pass it to the 2nd place winner, and so on, until we find a person who wants it.
  • All of RMN's normal policies apply.
  • If you have any questions, ask in the comments section or PM Deckiller.

@Liberty
For VX however it seems that it doesn't work. That is what we tried with Slenderman's Lullaby. However it still asked for the RTP...and we used 2 aspects of the RTP. Both of which were imported...
Maybe try editing out the RTP line in the Game.ini file? Not sure if it would do the trick but it might be worth a try to see.
There's two options with VX/Ace (and XP too I think?)
Option 1:
-Compress game data and select include RTP (don't encrypt at this point even if you're planning to with the final version)
-Extract that file
-Delete anything you didn't use
-Re-compress however you choose

Option 2:
-Change the RTP line to "RTP=" (minus the quotes)
-Add everything you need

Even though option 2 is technically easier, I usually go with option 1 and I don't know why.

I agree entirely when it comes to games you're releasing outside of RMN. I developed and advertised Visions & Voices, which has 10k+ downloads on this site alone.

Wine & Roses was made for a contest on RPG Maker Network. I expect that the judges for such an event would have RTP. =|

Honestly, RMN would do well to have the option on a game profile to have a big download button for a version with RTP and a version without, and a little link underneath saying "don't know which to get? click here!". Uploading two versions and then having a single download button is not very helpful...

I agree with you on this one, that would be lovely to have the option.
So rtp doesn't need to be included? That's okay for mine I guess, since it doesn't come with it for some reason, and needs it to play. (Bad problem, but easily fixed.)

The lack of an RTP will not disqualify a game, and I would prefer it if judges did not deduct points or anything for the lack of an RTP. Shinan, I understand your crusade, but I think chastising developers might be enough of a deterrent ;) No need to reduce their chances of winning.

You don't have to finish a game to judge it, though finishing entries is preferred. We tried to complete as many of the Nugget Crash Course games as we could. If you really dislike a game and have given it a reasonable shot, you don't have to finish it. This is generally accepted. However, if you become stumped, you can always ask the developers for help. Mario's Mansion 2 is kind of an advanced Mario game (and TBH it wasn't geared toward Mario novices or taking the gold prize of an -RPG- contest haha), but we did upload videos of a couple tricky puzzles and you can always ask for solutions and hints.

If there's a game-breaking bug or something like that, you can ask the developer to fix it per usual contest rules.
Liberty, I think I found a game-breaking bug in Where End Times Saddest Songs. I reached the room with the door that Emi doesn't like, and cannot return to the room I got there from. Please advise?

Indrah and Fomar are good devs!
Gonna start DMN tonight along with a couple others.
Saw a small LP and thought it was nifty.
Hope you enjoy it!

And thanks BurningTyger and Deckkiller.

Currently, I've given 13 of the 18 entries a spin. I guess CARRIONBLUE's game doesn't count, since it's not listed? Anyway, my favorites thus far are Not a Chance of a Ghost, Where End Times Saddest Songs, and candy fangs.

Dead Moon Night. It's fun and cute, but I'm a little fuzzy on the encounter system.

*Edit 2: I'm getting anti-climbing paint for purplex's gamepage?
purplex's game was denied for reasons. Plus, he was banned for being a douche.
