Description

Welcome one and all to the first TimTam Game Slam! This event is basically about teaming up with other people to create games within a set time, based around a theme. It also comes with a prize - a packet of TimTams sent to your door!

What are TimTams? Why, only the best chocolate biscuit in the world! Well, okay, maybe not the absolute best, but they're freakin' amazing and I swear by them. They come in a variety of flavours and they taste so good you won't want to share them - which is great since they come in a pack of 11, making them impossible to divide evenly with your friends.

They're also Australian and I swear by them. Yeah boi~<3

RULES

- Teams of three people, no more, no less.
- Any engine as long as the games are playable without.
- This is a competition, as such all games will be judged!
- Each game needs to be over 10 minutes long at least.
- No dumb-ass joke games. The game needs to be of a reasonable quality to count.
- The game needs to stick to one of the themes and be recognisably based on that theme.
- Gamepage required.

EVENT STARTS: 23rd of February
EVENT ENDS: 31st of March

Theme: ART

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

+Any resources are fine, but keep in mind that people might stream or LP your games, so attempt to use non-copyrighted music where possible. The Emperor's March might be cool as balls, but it tends to get videos taken down no matter if it's a remix or midi version. There's a ton of free-to-use music out there if you look around, and even youtube has a bunch of channels dedicated to sharing such.

+ You can use resources from old projects, but the actual body of work needs to be new (this means maps and database stuff).

+ If you win and don't like biscuits or chocolate or the like, let me know and we can work out another Aussie snack as a prize instead.

+ Gamepage needs to be accepted to the site before you can even add your entry to the event page, so remember to get them in reasonably early!

+ Liberty is judging you. Hi~ o/

PRIZES

Contributors - A 20MS badge for taking part, providing the game/demo is over 10 minutes long and of reasonable quality.

Winners - A 75MS badge for each of the winning team and a packet of TimTams sent to your door (you can choose from a variety of flavours).

STREAMS
Libby does streaming. Here are the streams. Enjoi!

@Corf what do you mean by what you just posted? Did you legitimately "fire" a member of your team?

Two weeks in (and having nothing to show for it), I was forced to fire Esby for his lack of contributions, so it's not like action was never taken during this event.

We do as we must, and if I were a man for memes, I'd say "cross the Corfy, get the doorfy".

He deleted the download for his game, his gamepage is delisted, and he didn't even register his team members as devs on the game page so they can't do anything about it (can't even post pictures).

I rule alone. You give others power and they'll use it to destroy you.

This attitude is the exact opposite of the point of these events.

Is it? At the end of the day, it was about the result. My tyrannical approach to game development and team management produced a game where there wasn't one before. Had it been up to me, I would've done the whole workload myself and had the other two just be testers (as was the intention when Esby was let off and I threw together a story in a flash at four in the morning and produced a fully functioning introduction with RPG Maker 2000).

Had I just gone with the flow, we wouldn't have even had a game.

Either way, I subscribed to a future where there was a full product in time for the deadline, and we delivered. It was buggy, admittedly, but that was a complication of interests. This was a game jam, not a coffee break.
I mean, yeah, that is the opposite point of these kinds of events.

It's about teaming up and having fun. Being a tyrant is the opposite of that completely. Sure, making yourself the leader and that a game gets done is okay, as long as you're not putting undue pressure on your members and they agree to follow your lead, but there's a huge difference between keeping people on task and forcing them to follow the lead you want them to.

The worst thing, I think, isn't that you kept your team on course and managed to finish the game. It's that when bugs presented themselves you gladly threw your team under the bus then removed the game as though it was ONLY your right to have it up. They worked on the game too. It was their work as well. That didn't give you the right to say "Fuck this shit" and delete it, just as it wouldn't give them the right to do so. They all did stuff for the game, so they all deserved the chance to say "No, I don't want it removed" or "Yeah, let's pull it down until we fix it up".

You're making that decision without consulting them and then acting as though everything was their fault is why you're being called out on this. Not because you pushed for the game to be finished, not because the game had bugs.

Yes it is. Deleting the download, delisting the gamepage and making all those decisions without even talking to team members are completely antithetical to the point of these contests.

They still can't do anything about it with you listed as lead and the gamepage delisted (you can list more than one person as lead, you know?) It's effectively the same.

Yes. Your team totally delivered. But now no one can access the download and your own team can't do squat about it.

It's all there, and I still keep in touch with my teammates, so it's not like changes can't be made under my supervision, and as long as this is a gamepage under my profile, that will stand.

I'm not going to entertain a campaign of back and forth on an event page so consider this resolved. Three replies - that's it.
There's nothing stopping either of them from making their own game page of it. Nothing at all.

Forgive me if thinking the one person who has messed up things for his team over and over without consulting them might not be the best one to hold the keys to their game.

I suppose that's true.
So, Corf is going to be banned from future team events right? Cause I think it'd be exhausting to have to personally warn everyone about him.

That was some pretty intense back and forth. Also the server time makes me feel like I am in the future. It's a shame what happened with this whole scenario, but honestly despite it's bugs, The game in question looked really interesting. I mean hey at least it's not an Ubisoft game, ya know?

Corfy, have you considered that maybe team events aren't for you? Working with others usually involves some level of trust and cooperation, and you've made it pretty clear you're not comfortable with giving any level of control to others.

Like, that's not a bad thing; I don't generally do team stuff for the same reason. Just stick with the styles that're fun for you and skip on the events that aren't that fun.

All you lose is some MS, cheevos, and in this case TimTams, and there's other, less stressful ways to get all that shit.

You see? I agree with that wholeheartedly. I've been through some stuff recently, and trying to reengage with 'the other' has taught me a few things about myself that I had forgotten upon joining a church. I'm encouraged to run back into said things at my own peril, and as of yet (new church, new girlfriend, new game) it's been a source of unimaginable dread that simply hasn't worked out and only I understand that now really isn't the best time to start again.

I know I work best when I have a task to approach from whatever angle I know works best for me and for the task, and that's how I'll choose to move forward (zsorry, zDS, no ban necessary).

Good lord what a shitshow XD If you have to go all el capo about a team game, maybe don't bother with a team at all, sheesh. And I thought I was bad about being bossy...

Throwing shade, Indra? I dunno about that... Maybe... glass houses... yeah... ._.

I think, if anything, this jam will go down in RMN history as the point the community collectively went out for a night on the town and came to with a hangover, strange phone numbers, tattoos and a roll of undeveloped film floating in the toilet.

On the bright side, Libby's commentary going from 1:42:57 to 1:43:09 would make for a perfect "it's your in-laws" ringtone. Just imagine: you're sitting comfortably at wherever when suddenly your phone buzzes. You lean over to check the caller ID and when you see who it is, the clip starts.
Hey guys, I just got here, whats going on?
