You play the role of an unfortunate knight, Sir Edwin Pebbleton of Dungbottom, who desires one thing in life-to wed a fair maiden and restore his family name that his late father tarnished. Yet, Sir Edwin isn't the most prestigious knight in the land. He's poor, daft and quite unattractive. Finding a maiden to marry has proven to be a difficult task for him.

After a drunken night at the Crossroads Inn, Sir Edwin meets a guileful rogue that convinces him to embark on the adventure of a lifetime-to defeat the dreaded dragon Cinder and rescue Lord Thakk's fair daughter, Lady Isella. Finding Cinder, however, is not an easy task, and they are forced to recruit the aid of two others, locate Cinder's lair and pray they don't die in the process.

Take on the role of a comical and dimwitted band of heroes trying to survive in a world full of monsters, peril and roasted pheasant (it's quite nice). Can you rescue Lady Isella? Will Sir Edwin find the love of his life? And will the rogue, Kitrashusara, discover riches beyond his wildest dreams? Only you can determine their outcome.

Single ladies please apply! Do not fret by this young knight's ghastly appearance, his destitute coffer and his dying lands. What he lacks in knightly luxuries, he makes up for in honor and devotion. Sir Edwin enjoys long walks through the meadow and loathes bats.

Don't let this rogue's bright, crimson hair and black eye patch fool you; this kaeta is one to be trusted. He may have a bounty on his head in Yurl and Deshi Ratik, but Ostragen is a different land with new opportunities (and laws). Known as Kit by his close friends, this innocent rogue hopes to obtain mountains of treasure so that he may retire, settle down and live a quiet life deep in the forest as far away from the king and city guard as possible.

Prestorius University is very fortunate to have Fizrahn as part of their magical alumni. He's been valedictorian of his class and studied under the great Ghalahara the Powerful. What he has in studious intellect, he lacks in common sense, though. Note to self: when surrounded by knights clad in metal while standing in a shallow pool of water... don't cast lightning...

A cleric from The Divine Order. She's been sent on a pilgrimage by The Thesiriun in hopes to aid the innocent, smite the wicked and discover herself. She's kind, caring and possesses one mean healing spell, and she doesn't take blaspheming ogres lightly. SMITE ALL INFIDELS!

  • Decisions that will impact the story and future choices; shaping and molding the world around you.

  • No Random Encounters. All battles are scripted into the game to encourage exploration.

  • A story driven game with plenty of dialogue and character development (a lot of action and adventure too :)

  • Comical and satirical moments intermixed with some serious and meaningful outcomes.

  • Herb Gathering, Alchemy, Mining, Treasure Hunting, Fishing and Bunny Hunting!

  • Light humor and sarcasm that brings a "A Bard's Tale" type charm to the game (at least that's what I was trying to do)

This is my first game created in RPG Maker. It was originally done in VX Ace and just recently converted to MV. When I created this game, I wanted to focus on what I enjoy the most-writing and storytelling. I spent a lot of time developing my character's and telling a tale that was reminiscent of old comical fairy tale's from the 80's and 90's. I knew I wanted to go humorous, but not over-the-top, so I got some inspiration from A Bard's Tale and Princess Bride. I took a world full of normal, serious people and injected it with a dimwitted group of heroes to interact with them.

Along with my storytelling and character development, I wanted to create a game where choices matter. The decisions you make in the game will impact the world around you, and those choices will determine the difficulty of a dungeon or boss, or possibly how people, or even a town, interact with your party.

I really hope you enjoy my game if you take the time to play. I didn't have a lot of plugin/coding knowledge, and I'm not artistic, so much of the artwork I used is thanks to content creators across many forums and websites, so much of my game may look very familiar to many of you. I hope my story and characters make up for my lack of artistic creativity and coding knowledge. However; I would like to thank the content creators and those responsible for many of the plugin's I used. This game wouldn't have been possible without every single one of you. :-) Thanks!

Tales of Yuria: Mausoleum of the Gods *RELEASED*

The follow-up story for The Dragon God is now finished. You can download and play it here: ToY: Mausoleum of the Gods.

This is a short story (roughly around 4-6 hours) and just a follow-up to The Dragon God. Think DLC. This story follows where the first game ended and takes you back to The Crypt of Ancients. If you play, hope you enjoy :-)

Dreamcleaver! Glad to see you still stopping by :-)

I was nervous to put dash in an update because I was worried it would mess something up, but apparently it worked well. And I will actually have the save option in the menu now. Mostly because if the game crashes, I want players to be able to have multiple save spots and save frequently.

I'm currently working on the Intro of my sequel. Once that's done, I'll be putting up a Tales of Yuria 2 page so you can all follow the progress.

I actually commissioned someone to make custom main characters for me, so you'll be getting a unique looking party in my second game :-)
  • DASH - having to crawl everywhere was annoying

  • QUEST/SAVE - I honestly don't mind these mechanics, you just have to be a little more generous with save locations or give some indication I need to hurry up with a quest
OK, sorry about my above posts. I attempted to reply by my phone, and it didn't send the entire message. Wanted to make sure I didn't come off rude with my single line response.

Thank you Tsuba! I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed my game, and it sounds like you're playing it a second time! :-)

What I enjoy most is writing. I love creating the story and dialogue, and sometimes I have to remind myself I'm making a game and not writing a novel. I need to tone some of my cut scenes down. I will be fixing this in my second game. While it will still have plenty of story, a lot of the lore will be in optional scrolls, books, etc. I have the intro of my second game pretty much done, and it's been cut back drastically. I've broken up much of the dialogue by allowing you to play the character in between. So you won't be sitting through a 20 minute intro before you actually get to play in part 2.

With this being my first game, I'm definitely taking all feedback and considering it for my sequel. That's how we grow :-) Some common complaints I got about this game that won't be showing up in my sequel:

-SAVE will be available anytime directly through the menu screen.
-QUESTS will no longer be timed. You'll get a quest, and you can complete it at anytime. You'll have a quest log, as well.
-DASH will be enabled. You had it for your playthrough, but I had it disabled in my earlier versions. People disliked that... quite a bit :-)

As for the crashes. I never figured out the cause of them. They were a lot worse and more frequent in my earlier versions. I fixed a majority of them by making sure all plugins and my version of RPG Maker MV was up-to-date. Do you have Version 1.6? Either way--sorry about the frustration with that. I'm glad to hear you were willing to push through and continue playing even when that happened.

Thanks also for writing a review. You'll be my first one :-)

I'll be posting on here once I create my Tales of Yuria 2 page. I plan on putting it up before the game is done, that way everyone can start following my progress and give feedback along the way. :-)

Thanks again!

@Tsuba

I'm so glad hear you enjoyed my game
This game was reaaaaally fun (I submitted a review, with nearly only nice things to say !)

I'm here to answers your questionnaire (don't know if it's still topical...)

1) Larrenburg: Did you cause havoc around the village before meeting the lord and his wife (kill any of the farmer's sheep and/or burn the plant)?

Not on my first time.
On the second I did and...got a fine. And some minors change in dialogues.
I was expecting more hostility.

2) Grugg's Lair: Did you rescue Sir Lindsey and Reginald? If you did... what was the outcome?
At first, I let them to their fate (they're unbearable !!!).
The second time, I rescued them (loved the infiltration part). I am not completly done yet, but up until now they let me the credits of killing Grugg (I was expecting them to claim it was their doing) and I still haven't see them again.
Maybe they'll pop back for the dragon ? I'll see...

3) Bhakul Cathedral:
A. Did you give the mage at the Crossroads a Sun Sapphire?

I wanted to, but when I came back he was already gone. This time, I came back to him the moment I put my hand on the sapphire to give it to him.
No change until now, but I'm not done with the cathedral yet.

B. Did you rescue Silent Child?
Yep.

C. Based on the above... what boss battle outcome did you get?
The boss with a few minions (since I don't know what is supposed to change...). I'll see if there is any change now that the sun sapphire has been given.

4) The Dark Forest: Did you find the Eastern Tower? If so... did you help defend it, or leave Gilmund to his fate?

I defended it. And he came back to help with the dragon.

5) Winberg Hall:
A. Did you get thrown in the dungeon? If so... how?

No, I didn't...must try it !!!!

B. Did you allow Niall (the son) to join you? If so... did he survive?

I allowed Niall the join me, and he survived.
You're telling me I must refuse him AND let him join but have him killed to see the different outcomes ?
Damn...

6) Did you find the innkeep's daughter, Kaity? If so... did you help her?

I didn't find her at first.
Then, I did, and helped her (she helped back).

7) Did you get any assistance with Cinder at the very end?
From Gilmund and Kaity.

I must report a few bugs :
- the game freezes after the first encounter with Grubb. I had to play a few times to finally pass.
- the sapphire guy disappearing before we get the chance to give him the sapphire (honestly, if it's only going to change something into the cathedral, he should still be here until we step into the cathedral, shouldn't he ?)
- the woman asking for the dryads bracelets disappeared too before i could bring all the bracelets to her. managed to catch her on my second play. I think it may have something to do with finding Kaity or not finding kaity...not sure.
- After one hour or so of playing, the game just shut down. Don't know why, but since we can't save as often as we'd like, it's...unnerving.
- The first time I played (help from Gilmund and Kaity), the dragon didn't make any damages to me. It was always zero. The second time (help from no one) the damages were working...can't tell you what the problem was.

In fact, there are just two points who really bothered me :
- the lack of saving points.
We shouldn't be able to play more than 20 minutes without being able to save in those kind of game. Here, it's one hour or more.
- the timing of the dialogues.
I get that you have a story to tell (and so, lots of dialogues) and that timing them must be a loooot of work, but it's unnecessary. Even more, it's unnerving.
I read more quickly than the dialogues appear (at full speed) and when playing the game again I would like to be able to pass some dialogues more quickly.

I honestly think that without the timing, the intro could be shortened to 15 minutes or so (because we're spending a lot of time just waiting for the text to unfold).
You want to tell a story, and we want to hear it, but we also want to play your game.
I honestly think that without the timing we'd be able to enjoy both the game and the story.
And it's saving you a lot of work.
Win-win situation here.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to play your next game if it's only half as fun as this one !!!

Game is great so far but I'm having a problem with the colored orbs. I think I've tried every combination but nothing seems to happen. What am I missing? Thanks

Finally figured it out.

Finally figured it out.

Yay! Glad you like it so far and hope you enjoy the rest of the game. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any other questions :-) Thanks for playing!

I see you said you figured it out, but below is a hint if anyone else gets stuck here. I also put the solution to the puzzle under a HIDE mark. See below:

Orb Puzzle Hint:

In the orb room you want to read the plaques. Those plaques give a description about a specific Delkinian god/goddess. Each plaque goes over a specific word that represents a color. You want to match that orb in the random rooms around the dungeon with that color. You'll know the correct rooms with the specific god statue.

Puzzle Solution:

-The Dragon Guardians: Look for the room with the dragon statue. On that pedestal place a blue orb to represent "skies."

-The Winged Saviors: Look for the room with the twin sisters (two statues facing each other). You want to place the green orb on that pedestal to represent "nature" and how the "grass grows."

-The Hooded Deceiver: Find the room with the robed/hooded statue. Place the yellow orb on the pedestal to represent the "queen's golden crown."
Game is great so far but I'm having a problem with the colored orbs. I think I've tried every combination but nothing seems to happen. What am I missing? Thanks

Finally figured it out.

Just finnished the game and overall I enjoyed it. It was great to see a party that doesn't pay cheap compliments to each other 24/7.
For your next game I think it would be better to have a few really cool battles like Cinder and the tower defence, rather than all those mob encounters, I feel like they just artificially lengthen the game taking away from it rather than adding anything of value.

GREAT! Glad to hear you enjoyed the game :-) I will be working on Part 2 shortly. Combat will be something I'm going to try and make more interesting with more boss/mini-boss battles. I plan on doing more cut scene style combat like what you mentioned above: gauntlets, tower defense, etc.

Glad you enjoyed. Feel free to subscribe if you haven't already. I'll be sure to post a blog on here when I put up part 2's page. That way you can follow my progress there. Thanks for playing!

I was going down the path with the root monsters and saw a dying adventurer killed by bandits. she told me they went to the left and once i went through the path to the left and entered a new map, i won't lie, the game crashed. Good thing i saved a minute ago.

Btw, the dragon daggers seem to only do 7 damage after the first hit. Is that a bug or me being dumb as usual?

Those will only do decent damage against dragons. They won't do much against other enemies. You'll want to save them for the end :-) That may be my fault, and I should have made a better description for them.

And as for the game crashing... #%&#@! Please let me know if it does it again or continues. I'm out of ideas on how to fix that LOL I'm hoping it's just a one-off instance and the rest of the game goes great for you *knocks on wood*

I am playing the 1.6 version. Haven't had any crashes so far. :)
There is a quest for a white wolf material. A girl says that the wolves will call for the white wolf. Only just realised she meant I have to encounter a normal wolf and wait for them to call the white wolf. is there any way to complete the quest if all normal wolves are dead?

Unfortunately, many of my side-quests are timed (well, not by an actual timer, but once you hit a certain point in the game-they leave). It's a game mechanic I regret making and won't do again in future projects. Originally, I did it so the inn didn't have a ton of NPC's all hanging around, so I decided to time the quests. At this point, that NPC has already left probably. Sorry about that.

However; part 2 will have no timed quests (except maybe a few, but those will at least have a reason to be)... and there will be a Quest Log, too :-)

How to do the second bounty

For the second bounty you dont have to wait for night. After finishing the mines and heading for the village, the lord will invite you to a banquet. On your way to the lords house, there will be blood in between some houses to the north. Speaking to the man will cause you to 1v1 a lycanthrope

Oh cool, thanks! I completely missed that!

Glad to see you're still playing! :-) And you solved the mystery of the second bounty ;-) Are you playing v1.6? I made a lot of changes to the game, and I do believe the random crashing has been fixed *fingers crossed*

I finished the game and I must say, this game turned out really, really excellent! All the plot points and characters added up to a wonderful experience, and the characters go from a band of misfits to close (but still sometimes bickering XD) friends in a way that's really well done and heartwarming. I really enjoyed my time in this world!

I'll put a list of notes and bugs under this hide tag here:

I failed to do the second bounty because I couldn't figure out how to make it nighttime so I could hunt the lycanthrope. Unfortunately the bounty man left and I was unable to do any future bounties after that.

Wow that Poltergiest enemy in the mines has a lot of HP! Took me a while to whittle it down.

Typo in this spell description, misspelling "Aura"

"Faith and Devotion" book doesn't teach me "Strength of the Gods" spell despite what it says. Not 100% sure but I think I got the Regeneration spell from it, maybe?

You can walk on these statue's heads.

I collected enough materials for the person who wanted Dryad anklets, but only thought to turn them in after I did the cathedral, and by that time they were gone. Ooops. At the time I was disappointed that I lost out on the four skill books, but by the end of the game the lady who sells skill books was selling a whole lot of them, so I'm guessing I didn't miss any, and just had to wait for them? Not sure.

In the Dark Forest, I didn't find the tower in the eastern section until after I got inside Winberg Hall. But all the dialog acted as if I hadn't gotten to Winberg Hall and met Lord Thesban. The tower defense part was super cool tho ^_^

Somehow, I seem to have lost my ability to craft Tier 2 potions. Not sure when it happened, I only noticed it when trying to use the alchemy set in Winberg.

Okay, final battle time!

Really liked getting archer assistance for helping defend the tower!

I very much enjoyed all the side content and how well you worked the players' choices into the outcome of events! Very well done! There was always a lot to explore and do in each area (with the exception of the final area, but by then I was ready to confront the dragon and was decked out with Mythril and a couple of dragon-killing weapons).

Only real downsides I can think of are that slow start which you already addressed in the recent patch (which, don't get me wrong, totally pays off by the end! It really feels well earned!) and that the plagued village Willowbrook has a lot of battles in it. Enemies killed will resurrect as zombies, which is super cool, but if you touch them again you've got another fight on your hands, and once I was surrounded by two sets of plagued villagers which ended up in me fighting four battles in a row, which was a bit much.

Aside from that, really had a fun time with this game! Liberty chose well when she decided to give this a Hidden Gem feature :DDDDD Thanks so much for the excellent game, and I'm very much interested in that stinger about the sequel! (I hope the character mentioned there is okay!!!)

You know, I woke up today and was like... yuck. Monday. First day of the work week. I'm dreading going into work and then... I read this. :-D You just made my day 10x better. Thank you so much for playing my game up to the end and giving me all the feedback you did. Character development and story was my main focus on this game, so I'm glad to hear I accomplished what I was going for :-D

I'll work on the bugs you mentioned and get them added into (hopefully my final) game update. But that'll be down the road. I don't want to smother the community with update after update LOL

All the great feedback (and bad) has really inspired me to work on part 2 (and fix what was wrong with part 1). I'm going to finish up a really small project I'm working on, and then I'll start Tales of Yuria 2.

Thanks again Unity! <3 <3 <3
