Discuss Exile's Journey over on Discord!

Exile’s Journey is a dark fantasy RPG. The story centers around a former knight named Kniryk and his quest to stop a demon invasion that is occurring throughout the Kingdom of Nysoroth, where most of the game takes place.

The game focuses on the internal struggles of the main characters in addition to the aforementioned invasion and its impact on the Kingdom.

The main character of the game is Kniryk. An exile by choice, he's now presumed dead in Landoria, his homeland. He's a righteous man, always acting with a sense of honor. However, he is often torn when justice and law conflict. He wears the red cape of the Knights of Landoria as a testament to what they originally stood for before their corruption. He's joined in his quest by others who also question their purpose in the world.

This game is a love letter to RPG Maker and role-playing games as a whole. With Exile's Journey, I strived to make a game that feels wholly consistent and maintains a professional feel. I've been using RPG Maker since 2003.

Highly engrossing storyline - You'll be hooked playing as these characters, learning about their diverse backgrounds, and watching as they develop and solve their own personal conflicts.

Open ended gameplay - After an introductory section, you're allowed to complete the game's dungeons in any order you want!

Numerous side quests - These side quests are optional, but without them you won't receive the game's best armor and equipment, or the game's only method of air travel! These side quests feature story lines of their own and offer a break from the game's main story.

15+ hours of gameplay - This game will be much longer and more epic than your average RPG Maker game!

Extremely detailed world - This game takes doesn't allow you to travel the whole world, only the large and extremely detailed Kingdom of Nysoroth. After playing and learning of the country's cultures and history you'll feel like a true Nysorothian!

Original music - Many of this music are original tracks, many of them composed by myself for the game!

Custom sound effects - I created many of the game's sound effects, including the menu sound effects, on a Korg Wavestation synthesizer!

Weapon upgrade system - Some weapons will almost never become obsolete thanks to this!

No random encounters - see enemies on the map before engaging them!

Treasure tracking - The game keeps track of all the treasure you've found in the main dungeons! Find all treasure chests to obtain a special reward!

The 2020 Misao winners have been announced! Exile's Journey wins two!

I'm sure many of you are well aware already, but for those who aren't, I'd like to announce with great pride that Exile's Journey has won two Misaos:

Not Dead Yet Award (Given to the best old game that was finally finished this year)
and
"Everlasting Journey" Award (The game that has the most content to offer)

My game also secured many other nominations. I've been following the Misaos for a long time, and from a young age. I first became aware of these annual awards after the 2005 winners were announced, when games like The Way, Laxius Power 3, and Pokemon: The Evil Inside featured prominently. As such, it's an honor for me to finally have a game of my own nominated and awarded various Misaos.

I recommend that everyone take a look at the link below. There were so many great contenders this year. All of the games featured below, winners or not, definitely deserve a play.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support. It means a lot to me. I've been a bit quiet recently, but I am still working on my newest game, Memories From a Dream. Please subscribe if you haven't!

1st: you have to have talked to a certain NPC in Seth
2nd: stand on the cross-shaped, brown tiles. (normally you have to stand directly in front of the sign, but not here)

I recommend you download my guide: https://www.dropbox.com/s/84t7sm07wsbb8u8/Exile%27s_Journey_Guide.pdf?dl=0
^What Firefly said.

Were you able to get to the part where there is a dirt patch on the ground? (Kniryk says something like "this place is oddly suspicious".)

I've talked with the elf and he said the sister was kidnapped, also got the guide, i really dont know why it isnt workking =( here follows the position i stay after i walk the required steps.
Punkpapao, I think you may be misunderstanding a little bit. When he gives you directions, he's not saying you need to take single steps. You actually need to navigate through multiple screens.

So, in other words - on the first screen, you need to walk all the way up until you reach the next identical screen. Then, walk all the up again. Then, walk all the way to the left. Etc.
i liked this game so much, but i noticed something that really surprised me, when i went to the kobold village i talked to one of the kobolds that "Frankly, i'm a sicking wreck" when i read this dialogue my mind went to one of The Smiths songs that is called "Frankly, Mr Shankly" which has the same exact words in the dialogue and i'm not sure if it was coincidence or you meant to put it there, but nice job after all.

This is an intentional reference!

Well, I'm a big Smiths fan myself, so everything is a Smiths reference to me.
Ok so I have gone to the end of the game(I think), I have gone to the shrine of Ifrit but cannot find Zibinx

Just return to the final room (you can follow the guide from the first run there with some shortcuts).
It should teleport you there instantly once you use the north exit in Seth. Did you head to the House of the Ma'at (northeastern house) and speak to Adaem's family first?

Silly me I was in the temple of Ra, not Ifrit. Finished now.
Really enjoyed the game, a little awkward knowing where to go sometimes, but, all in all a very good game. Thank you.
Do you have/know any similar games to play?

I am happy to hear that you liked it!

Some of the RPG Maker games that influenced me the most are A Blurred Line, The Way, and Demon Legacy, so check those out if you have a chance. :-)

I also recommend Theia - The Crimson Eclipse and Villanoire!

The commercial games that influenced this game the most are Final Fantasy VII, Ocarina of Time, and the Dark Souls series, so if you're in the mood for a commercial game and haven't tried those, check them out!

If there's one specific aspect in Exile's Journey you'd like more of, let me know and I can tailor the recommendations a bit more.
I just started the game, but I gotta say, i'm loving the soundtrack SO MUCH!!
For some reason, I'm getting an error whenever I try to upload a new blog post, so I'll just write here.

I have uploaded a new patch. My game suddenly gained a lot of new players and wonderful support on Itch.io, which was surprising and very nice to see. As such, I've been receiving a lot of bug reports.

To install the patch, simply paste the files into the Exile's Journey folder and overwrite.

NOTE: Each patch file contains EVERY change made since the game's initial release. If you missed a patch, don't fret! Installing the latest patch file will bring you up to speed.

PATCH NOTES

Balancing fixes for those who tackle the battle outside of Keldor early.

You can now learn a healing spell for Kniryk prior to the battle by a green-haired elf in the village. If you've already completed the battle, you can get the spell from him regardless.

You can now leave Keldor before the battle takes place.

The demonic portal mini-map now subtly displays a recommended order in which they should be completed, although you can complete them in any order. The recommended order is only displayed when you press 1 to enlarge the map.

Fixed some glitches related to playing the Desert Song.

I've increased Oreth's HP slightly to improve his abilities as a tank. In addition, he now learns a new ability at level 18 - Provoke. This causes enemies to focus their attacks on only him. If you've already surpassed level 18 with Oreth and missed out on getting the skill, please send your save file to me over on Discord or RMN and I'll add it for you.
hooooooly.... this looks dope! such a treat returning to this site to discover all these purdy games. the mapping is insane!
