Castle Greyrot, a new rogue-lite RPG on the horizon! Featuring Duran!

Hello, Time Travelers!
I've been absent for the past year, working on a new project called Castle Greyrot. Imagine Shattered Hourglass bosses, dialogues, decision-making, and job system but it's set in dark medieval times.

The story is Castle Greyrot is a living being that changes its location every 10 years and corrupts its surroundings wherever it goes. As an experienced Commander, you are summoned to engage in a raid on Castle Greyrot.
With mercenaries on your side, you're about to venture to the Castle and destroy the unknown evil force within. It's that simple.

You can check out Castle Greyrot's page right away!

Good morning! (at least for me!) Wow, so many new comments. Even though faroukrizki answered almost everything, I'm gonna try to answer what's left of them. Also, welcome raymin!

author=raymin
I also created an account just to say that I'm in love with this game, as I've downloaded it two days ago and it's my first over RPG game that I've ever touched. :D But I'm sort of stumped on a few things:

1. So I'm on my last Hunt (Faceless Doom), but I need to give it 30 Sealight Booms and that seems like a lot to search for, haha. Can I get a hint of where I can get that much?

2. For Aquana I need one more silver token to put into those gray pad things, but so far it looked like I collected all the tokens I could find (About 9 so far I think? Idk, it's probably more than that). There's a hint from Eda that I'm kind of confused on: "Water dragon and a woman... she's obsessed with it." Is she referring to the dragon on Frostbite mountain? In other words some of the hints Eda gave I'm kinda confused on. Just a small tip will do!

2a. In that tower next to Icywland, there are certain parts of it I can't go into because there's no way to get into said parts. Are those in development?

3. I realized that in the volcano, a man was trapped in flames in front of a silver chest. Was that a missed opportunity for a silver token? ;___;

4. I know for the building north of Seran, there's a chest that says "Make something from scratch, create a community." I believe that refers to my home since it appears to be attracting civilians all around. I think I'm missing a seed or two more plant seeds to complete it? So far I have carrot, corn, pumpkin, onion, and tomato.

PS. Suan is my all-time favorite character and I LOVE the housing system. <3

2a) You can go there in Icywland's well, there will be a long path to there!

3) You can save that person if you own a Book that teaches you "Water" spell. In Trin Island, a fairy is selling it. Also, I'll never put a Silver Token in a missable area! That would be so evil lol

4) You are correct, you gotta grow your community! Your goal is to make a total of 20 house upgrades or more. You are currently missing a Cabbage! Also, another fact: You can get maximum of 29 house upgrades in this version. Gachapon Boxes also can drop House Upgrades (You can get 4 with that)

@sawworm

I've been runnning around in circle looking for the last silver token for more than 50 hours in-game and maxed everyone's classes and levels in the process. There are a few things to note though:

1. I think there should be a treasure detector item. It'll help us with the frustating Leviathan quest. :D

2. Some BGM's are missing. The Vamp Lady hunt in haunted house and the Arena fights. If you rechallenge a level, the game would crash due to the missing BGM.

3. Duran's Laquerarii Fire Strike MP cost should be toned down a bit. I believe you used percentage for the MP cost. When he reached high level, the MP cost of the skill will be higher than Poison Strike IV, which makes Fire Strike obsolete.

4. Suan's Nuke attack damage should be quadrupled and cause several ailments since it'll consume all of his MP. Duran's Poison Strike can do more than Suan's Nuke. Self terminate is also too risky yet weak.

5. Juliet is very weak stat and skill-wise. Give her more healing spells and party ailments resistance skills that cost MP only (without TP cost) to make her useful.

6. Treephop will be underpowered late game. He is supposed to be a heavy damage dealer. Duran's Poison Strike, Suan's Hasta La Vista ang Juliet's Violent Strikes deals more damage than Treephop's triple punch and cause ailments.

7. Fuujin's magic couldn't be reflected by Treephop's magic wall.

8. I'll buy this game if you finished it and released it on steam. :D

Hello there, faroukrizki!

1) I'm thinking to make something like that, but I couldn't figure out how to do. My first prototype was something like a notebook for that. But still I don't think that's useful. So I created Eda as placeholder for that matter. I believe She's doing well in her job, without her I don't think anyone would find that many Silver Tokens. Of course I'll also look for alternative solutions to make that hunt easy!

2) Oh no, I'm still missing BGMs... Thanks for telling me, I'll fix those issues too. But the next version will be coming out in the next week (hopefully), so it's going to wait for a while :( I'm creating the player house's south building, that might take some time.

3) Sure thing, I'll look into that. Balancing jobs are very tricky D:

4) That's a nice idea, some skills become useless when their cost not worth using it. You are absolutely right, just checked it. It deals so minimal damage for 50 mana, since we are talking about an Endgame class it's seriously weak at the moment. It was doing fixed 3k damage, I'll boost that to 15k. Even Jannet learns coin toss that deals 10k damage very early in the game.

5) I was thinking that way as well. Thanks for reminding me that, I'll also make her immune skills party wide. For Healing issue, I'll also look into that as well as Jannet's healing capabilities. If Duran goes to pure damage build your party no longer does well against Bosses. Well, if you use AoE healing items, that's a different story D:

6) I also noticed that. That's why I buffed his Elemental Punch skills but I'll also look into that. Testing so many skills takes some time :')

7) Füjin's skills are (all of them) are Certain Hit, you can't reflect or counter it :~D

8) I'm planning for that. I still have 3 things to do. At least I'm done with pre-post game stuff!

Still haven't found the last silver token yet... haha...

I guess I'll revisit every towns and dungeons. Just found a secret teleport block near the clown who sells Duran's "Burst" scroll. Too bad it does not contain a silver token. :D

The ones behind trees and buildings are already acquired as early as I went to those places for the first time. :v

I'll be busy until the mid-term exam, I'll try to explore more later after. :D

You... How do you do that?! You haven't talked with the cat in the Hunters Hunt and used a teleport scroll, do you? Can you upload your save file so I can fix the issue lol... I may need to add one more conditional event for NOT bypassing that event :~D
omg nooooooo yes i teleported yea he gave me the bad karma so i was like no i dont want that and left
ok so i went back to a old save and got the cat still dont like the bad karma you have to get like why i want a perfect good no bad but its ok the game is really fun
Hahaha, that cat is a part of the main story. (She's (he) super powerful) You missed a lot of "her" dialogues by doing that. It actually doesn't matter if you gain bad karma from that. If you can upload your save file and send it to me I can fix your last party member as that cat! So that you can continue your Good playthrough.
awww man i saved over it sorry so does well i still be able to get the good ending with one bad karma
Just want to notify everyone Shattered Hourglass is no longer affiliated with Gamejolt from now on (0.6.6+). If you want to grind achievements you can do that in 0.6.5 or lower versions or download my game from Gamejolt's website. Due to my internet connection speed, uploading my game takes quite some time and I don't want to wait 3 or 4 hours to fully upload it on every time I publish a new version. Your current save files are safe from this change, no worries.

Also, remember this place?

You can get all locked chests now, but getting them is tricky. This area has no encounters, so you are on your own to explore it ;) (This area is divided into two parts, the first part is completed.)

I'm leaving Gamejolt's website here, in case you want to get achievements;
https://gamejolt.com/games/shattered-hourglass/20501

The last thing, I don't want to make a blog just for this. I just combined the current version (0.6.6) with the previous version (0.6.5).

Have fun.
More feedback for this awesome game that keeps making me come back again and again.
First of all, I really like all the additions you made recently, I was a bit shocked at the portraits at first, but I got used to it fast.

1) The Scan Crash bug still happened once when I used the scan ability to see the weaknesses of the opponents. I suppose it's the script that brings up the window with the stats that causes some sort of trouble during the normal flow of combat.

2) There is still a (very old) bug that crashes the game in SandDock to the east of Qual Village. If you examine the chair to the right of the guy that gives you the boat remote plus, you will pop up a message that says "za", after that the game crashes and gives an error message about a "derp" story image book file missing.

3) Duran's Poison Cut 4 hits all enemies 4 times. Is this intended? From the description it's not really mentioned, and, looking at the MP Cost (it's 99), this ability appears to be VERY strong and it resolves 99% of random battles on its own.
My instinct tells me that this was an oversight, but is it? This is more of a question than a request of nerf, by the way. Just keep in mind that, right now Poison Cut 4 is Better than Flaming Weapon II in every possible way, even against fire weak enemies.

About balance feedback:
Due to curiosity, and lots of free time, I decided to farm character of my Good path game (Treephop, Juliet, Suan and Zulwhern) to 35 in every job, with Suan hitting 40 in all his 3 jobs.
First of all, Level 40 giving nothing (no mastery, no ability, just a small stat boost) was underwhelming. I was kinda expecting something awesome at that level :P
Second, many of the "masteries" unlocked are either redundant or simply useless.
Zulwhern gets Light Armor Mastery... but he can wear Light Armor in all his jobs!
Also, the masteries that grant the ability to equip certain stuff, do not really compare to masteries that allow you to use entire skillsets across different classes. This is even more evident with the new accessories that allow to wear different equipment, why use Bow Mastery when you could just equip a Magic Quiver instead?
I don't know if it's possible, but I'd review this system to separate one "slot" for skill-related masteries and another "slot" for equipment related ones. So you can have Laquerarii Mastery AND Hammer Mastery at the same time, for example.

Clangeddin! Welcome back, it's great to see you once again!

1) Oh no... Is it still happening? I was so sure that problem has gone completely. I wonder if I need to change that script to another scan script. I'll run some tests soon.

2)Oh, wow... How did you find that? Even I forgot that I put an event in there.
I guess I was trying to add a notebook event that explains where did Qual went... Hahaha.

3)Thaks for finding that! No, it's not intended. All Poison Cut skills are meant to be single target skills. That skill is so powerful for a single target and I let it be AoE... Ughhh! (You can enjoy that overpowered skill for now ahaha)

Level 35 was the previous level cap, I've made some extra levels to round the levels and players can gain some extra stats. What you say is quite true, but can you imagine how devastating skills you can get in level 40... I really don't want to learn!

I really need to check out those masteries, the basic idea of those masteries are giving its user passive boosts but I'm sure I've missed some points on there. Just checked out and you are absolutely right, I might need to make some tweaks to them. Like Dark Knight wears Heavy Armour, instead of Light one.

Actually, when you recruit Mio/Cursed Eagle over Zulwhern, you can't get a party member that equips Bow weapons. So I wanted to fill that empty gap with items. I wanted to make a creative approach with those items. Because on some playthrough people can never wear FUR/PAW stuff. If you want to get a hammer-wielding Treephop, you can with that thing! It's fun on paper but I'm not sure about on the practice. I just want to open some possibilities.

(I think I might need to make Masteries more interesting.)

Thank you so much for your feedback! I really appreciate it.

Edit: I don't think I can create a Slot tab on characters. That's a really nice idea but also a very hard thing for me to get over it. So I'll add some flavor to Masteries to make them appealing in some scenarios.
Hi Fou-Lou!

Er...

I mean... sawworm!

I still haven't got the time to play since I go to college and working as a programmer at the same time T_T

Glad to see the newest update, but, you thanked Clangeddin for update 0.6.7 but you didn't thank me for the previous one? That's cruelty :P

Just kidding!

I just wanted to ask by the way, you don't happen to put one silver token in the "Cannibal village" do you? Because that place is unrevisitable once you defeat the firelord :(

Oh, and one more thing... Treephop is still a good potion user. The good thing about him is just the wall of reflection :P
Ohai, faroukrizki!

Er...

I mean... the most awesome human being!

Ah! Programmer? That's one thing I'm pretty mediocre at... even Ruby language giving me headaches.

H-hey! I'm sorry if I forgot to thank you! But... thanks!

No, I didn't! There is one coin just outside of the Fire Lord's castle, but you can go there even after beating him ^.^

I think Treephop's buffs are on the point, he's still good at what he does. Let's not make everyone overpowered :~D
Good to see someone utilizes with the wall of reflection. Niche abilities are the best!

I guess I agree with your opinion.

1) Early game, Treephop is the best damage dealer and Duran is the main healer.

2) Mid-Game, Suan is a tank and potion user, Juliet can deal some damage, Zhulwern is badass but, need an extra effort to learn some of his useful skills.

3) End-game, Treephop is a tanker and potion user, Juliet is a supporter (Healing Mastery and status Null). Duran can do damage once in a while even though he mainly uses spells when fighting strong bosses (he attack only when there is an opening). Zhulwern is the damage dealer and TP healer. Suan is... nothing great and nothing bad on him, mediocre, the only one who can remove frozen, burn & toxic.

It's well balnced now, I think. I don't know other people's opinions though :D

But, here is what I think:

1) Black magic is useless mid and end game. Only useful early game.

2) Holy elemental damage spells also not that great. Laquerarii uses less MP and deals higher damage. The holy spells useful to beat the group of jelly fish in one turn though but, that's it.

Hm... Already well balanced I guess...

Oh yeah, I already got the token in the fire lord castle. So, the last token is not that one D:

And, I love Java! Haven't tried Ruby :D
