Plot Overview

In the world of Linguardia, the nations of Rikalia and Dorent are the reigning powers. Although both leaders have been at peace for centuries, a dark cloud is on the horizon. King Richard, leader of the Rikalian Empire, has recently lost his wife and daughter to a pack of demons. Now, his mind twisted from grief, Richard is on a quest for domination. His plan: to harness the power of the six legendary crystals, which, according to scriptures, will bestow the wielder with unimaginable powers if brought together. With Richard on a path of destruction to collect the crystals, war seems inevitable.

Players take control of Epoch Lander, Captain of Richard's Dragon Knights, an elite force within the Rikalian Empire. However, when Epoch begins questioning the morals behind Richard's actions, he is arrested for treason and sentenced to death. With his head full of unanswered questions, Epoch must decide whether to accept his fate or fight for what he believes to be the greater good: even if it means fighting alone.

Soundtrack Complete!

Jose has just finished the last two songs of the soundtrack, bringing the OST to a grand total of 36 songs. With those final two, the Forever's End soundtrack is now complete! I really have to thank Jose for all the hard work he put into these songs. They all sound fantastic, and I can't wait to release the next episode with them implemented. Great job, bro!

Do know though, there are a few songs that will be included with the game that aren't custom. Not many, but a few, mainly because some of my cutscenes were already built around these songs. However, all of the ones included on this gamepage are the custom ones composed by Jose.

With the soundtrack complete, I thought I'd list out a few of my personal favorites. If you have any favorites, please comment and show Jose some love.

Your game is basically a tribute to the last SNES/PSX era, much like Hero's Realm was a tribute to the NES/early SNES era. I think you should bill it as such; it might give you less flak from people who bitch and moan about cliches. It also makes it seem more honest.

It's not intended to be a tribute, but the game starts off cliche, there's no doubt about that. It gets better though. Where are you in the game?

Where are you in the game?


Just finished the scenario with the drunken swordsman. Starting Epoch's scenario.
I've had a few people tell me that they encountered a bug where Epoch, Lee, and Goldo's stats got abnormally high (like in the 900s). Have you encountered that at all?

Not yet, at least.

But yeah, don't let the others get to you. Just do what you want to do. It's your game, your hobby. Craze offered some nice feedback, but it's your call. You don't need to hire a writer, either - I just think you should shorten your dialogue/cutscenes a bit.
Oh, and have you encountered the sound bug at all since downloading the new version?

I think Deckiller means it's a tribute in the sense that it shares the same design sensibilities - and I would agree. And that's why I really enjoyed it. While tribute might not be the right word, I really do think that you might want to bill the game as inspired by the snes/psx era or something like and make it clear that that's what you're shooting for. I think a lot of the people who just aren't into that design style will either adjust their mindset before trying it, or avoid the game entirely because they know they'll never like it. It'll reduce your audience a bit, but it'll mostly just be removing the people who shouldn't be playing it because it's not what they're looking for.

Yeah,(after Deckiller ) dozens of people had a really enjoyable time with your game, but even if there was only you to know its really worth something, it would mean it is
I didn't have any problems with the dialogues,in fact i liked them and i thought their casualness made them all the more real (otherwise, i've always considered bugs and lags to be what precisely is not the game)
There are a lot of things that can cause lag in rm2k3. I didn't encounter any while playing, but my computer is very powerful. For starters, you should probably count how many parallel processes you are running in your common events and maps, Nico. Calling events through actions and using labels is a lot more effective. No amount of wait conditions can help your game if you have a lot of parallel processes, since those are constantly on no matter what.

Did you design this game thinking of "disks"? The manor really feels like the final area of disk one of a typical Final Fantasy, haha. About the right playtime too.

Hahaha, nah. I didn't really plan for my game to get ported to the PS1.

EDIT: Also, have you encountered the sound bug at all? Where the sound cuts off?

Oh, definitely. I'm not fully vested in the story and characters, but I do like some of the intrigue in play. Gameplay is fast-paced enough to keep me from getting bored, and the battles are of solid balance. I should add that I'm playing the May 16th version - you may have updated the download since.

Oh...then you should try downloading the most recent one. It should fix the sound bug (hopefully).

EDIT: And yeah, there are those three scenarios and then maybe another hour's worth of gameplay.
I'm not sure if I should post my log I made while playing this (up until the point where I get to choose from either epoch, elise, lee or slade) since many of the issues I had are already commented on.

One thing I have to address though. I'm not sure how long I've been playing for, but the reason I've stopped playing for now is that I feel as if I never left the intro-"stage" of the game - meaning, I feel like the game hasn't really started yet. One thing I really like about singleplayer RPGs is exploring and discovery, that is, some smaller subquests, hidden stashes and/or dialouge which helps flesh out the world while you're taking a break from the main plot. It gives a sense of control and interactivity in an otherwise, often very linear and story-driven genre. So far, in the (I'm not sure how many) hours I've played Forever's End; the only place I really felt like I was allowed to do anything (or FREE if you prefer) was the Lyonell Manor (a well-done dungeon in many regards), where even though I really couldn't do anything other than following one single path, I at least got to experience a little history (or world-building, if you will).

tl;dr So far, Forever's End is extremely linear with little to no sidequests. I don't know if I haven't gotten far enough yet (if not, please tell me) but it's probably the only reason I'm not playing (and that Imma mak gam B))
@Mr. Nemo: Yeah, it's true. So far, the game is pretty linear. I meant to add some sidequests, but honestly, with all the time I spent on the actual story and character mechanics, I didn't have any time for the side stuff (and I didn't want to spend another three months on it or add some stupid fetch quests). The monster capture stuff and slaying all of the baddies is kind of like a sidequest in itself, but it's not really outside the scope of the main path. I plan for future releases to have more freedom (like when reaching Dorent, which will have a lot of stuff to do). Anyway, I hope you'll check out the rest as you're fairly close to the conclusion of the episode.
