Latest Patch: 1.69. If you have an earlier version, please download the latest patch as soon as possible.

The download has been updated to version 1.69. It includes all fixes up to this point. There is no need to re-download if you have patched in the fixes separately.

You know that game many aspiring devs create? The one starring their friends, often times based on a chat room, or some forums, or a MMO... or perhaps a fangame that barely resembles its source material. The one that gets maybe a half hour of gameplay finished and is completely unintelligible to anyone except that group of friends. Yeah, that one. Now, what if someone actually saw that project all the way through, and attempted to actually make it a fun, accessible, and playable game that was faithful to its source material?

Enter Legend of Balance. This game originally started out as a fun little project for friends, starring characters from Final Fantasy XIV. Over time, and with a ton of effort, it changed into a complete game of its own. It still stars our characters, and there are still a few injokes, but the plot has been set up as such that any Final Fantasy fan can get into the game and enjoy it as a light hearted Final Fantasy romp. Players of FFXIV will find quite a bit to enjoy as well. The story of the game takes place inbetween the end of FFXIV 1.0 and the start of A Realm Reborn(if you haven't played FFXIV, this part probably doesn't matter, and the game can be standalone).

The game revolves around a group of heroes, champions of the realm of Eorzea. In the midst of an intense battle to decide the fate of Eorzea, the heroes are transported away before facing certain death at the hands of Bahamut. Finding themselves separated in a brand new world, the heroes begin a journey to reunite and find a way home. However what starts off as a simple quest quickly unfolds into a classic journey of crystals, great evil, and steadfast allies. Before this adventure ends, they will discover the truth behind this strange new world, and uncover the binds that tie it to their own home and beyond.

-30 to 40 hours of gameplay, including a multitude of sidequests.

-Enjoy a faithfully recreated Final Fantasy battle system. Everything is as you remember it from the classics!

-Utilize classic abilities, including commands such as Jump, Runic, Blitz, Mime, Throw, Mix, Blue Magic, Dualcast, and much more, along with new commands and abilities based on other games in the series, such as Draw Out from Tactics.

-Equip Magicites to gain access to powerful summons and customize your stat growth.

-A huge cast of unique playable characters, including several hidden ones.

-Find and use faithfully recreated equipment. Favorites like the Ultima Weapon, Illumina, Brave Blade/Chicken Knife, Offering, and much, much more is all here to find and use to become unstoppable!

-Dozens of sidequests ensure there's plenty to do, with no need for excess grinding.

-Face off against familiar foes and brand new ones, including a nostalgia filled bonus dungeon for those who complete the main story.

-Facing a foe that your current party can't handle? Switch party members anytime, even in the middle of a fight!

-Buy rare and unique items at the Auction House, and battle in the Colosseum!

-Take part in minigames, including fishing and an arcade-style airship shooter.

-Customizable Battle Speed, Battle Mode, and Difficulty will get you the experience you want, be it tough as nails or a more relaxed game.

Playing the game at higher resolution

Hey all! I just wanted to post a link to an upscaler that will let you play pretty much any rpgmaker game at a much higher resolution.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/magpie.mirror/

Download this and follow the instructions, open Magpie, then the game, then press alt+F11. I'd suggest using either the Anime4k or CRT upscalers for LoB. This will let you play the game in fullscreen and it will look really nice!

Hi Shayoko!

Thanks for the feedback. I read through everything~ I'm glad you found some redeeming things about this game even though you tend to avoid Final Fantasy Fangames. There are a few points you made that I totally agree with... like there being to many characters and don't have much development at all. There's a lot of sidequests/inn scenes that try to compensate for that but it definitely isn't perfect. As for the plot we know its not everyone's cup of tea. A lot of the plot actually revolves around real life events that have actually happened, and real people~ Which is kinda disturbing if you think about it... like Sultan Nicholas is based off of someone that Rydiamist actually had to interact with... kind of disturbing if you actually played the game and know his personality~

Some of those bold points are things that we were overlooked/need to be fixed and we will look into it~ Thanks again for the feedback.
Thanks for all of the feedback! I'm just going to respond mainly to bold points in detail because a lot of the rest was mostly personal opinion stuff.

mixing 2 sprite types just looks so wrong. you have these small chibi guards and then normal sized ones o.o
but they are not gnomes or children o.o

-The small sprites are essentially FFXI/XIV's equivalent of gnomes, so they are smaller. =)

the sign saying the name of Ashiee's town should be directly at the entrance

-That can be added, it just wasn't because it says the name at the top of the screen when you enter.

Hermes buckler (obtained in the Cecile guild hall) costs the same as the Hermes shield but Hermes is better.

-The buckler can be equipped by more/different characters. At least it should be able to be. I will have a look.

during the prison escape the battles were inaccurate. i mean you see 3 guards come at you but there is only 2 in battle

-This happens in many, many RPGs. I should perhaps have a character mention it though.

ultima arrows do not work with muscle belt

-As in they don't do more damage with the muscle belt equipped? This may be due to how I have them coded... I will have a look but I'm not sure it wouldn't take a big change.

i wish changing gear of members not in your party was a little faster. the best way is to use equip thru stores. its just you have to manually select each one instead of just shifting to them

-I have talked about this before, but this was due to a change I made to the menu. Before, you could access characters outside your party with stuff like healing spells, and AoE heals would affect EVERY character. It was really broken, so I restricted the main menu to your active party only. Since this has come up a lot of times in regards to equipping characters I will see if I can change it for that menu.

:/ i REALLY hate stories that have a large cast of characters and then decide its a good idea to split them up >.>
i want to use certain characters its wrong to force the player to use others under these conditions.

-This part was actually because you get so many characters that some would just immediately get tossed in the back and never even see a battle. The idea was to at least familiarize the player a bit with all of the characters to give them a fair shot. Sorry you didn't like it, I tried to keep it fairly short. :/

i wish ship docks were marked clearer on the map

-Unfortunately I'm not sure I can do this since they aren't actually considered a location except for the ones you sail to on ships from towns.

i actually missed them saying where the water shrine was. i recommend changing the kings assistants dialog to mention that.

-This can be added~

another major flaw not being able to save after cross dressing.

-You mean in the sultan's chamber? This would be easy enough to add, but saving mid-event like that could cause some issues with how I have it set up.

ifrits cudgel is a special one of a kind item but you can sell it? same with any other 1 only gear or key item

-I can make it non-sellable. I will take a look at the key items as well.

would of been great to warp back to the tower of eternity entrance when finished or better back to the elder.
^same with many other dungeons

-This one, I think you just missed something important. Cassie and Orophin get a spell called "Exit". Using this spell will allow you to instantly leave a dungeon. In most of the areas you mentioned, it is usable. The item "Emergency Exit" does the same thing. Now, if Exit wasn't usable I will have a look and see if there's an issue.

its funny how every time someones dying instead of using cure to help them or a potion they just let them die like nothing we can do o.o

-Actually, in an earlier scene Dag flat out says that healing spells/raise won't work in cutscenes, to reference how it seems to be this way in so many rpgs.

there is no dot on the world map for the forgotten ruins north of ashs town

-This can be added, I will need to see if it was intentional due to overlapping dots though.

oh did i forget to mention the auto skipping text >.> we would like to read whats going on!

-Auto skip should automatically turn off for the ending sequence. Unless you mean there's just not enough time?

dam that was emotional! and unexpected in this game! but what happened to cassie!?

-She died. There is a way to save her, though...

-Also, the "stolen/modded" maps are reskinned/modified sample maps. We did not steal maps from any other game. Just wanted to clarify this.

As for your general feedback, I'm sorry that you didn't like the story. It's not really for everyone as it does play some things for laughs. The too many characters/lack of development criticism is valid, and I've mentioned it before that if I had it to do over I would have gone with a much smaller cast with some sort of job/customization system.

There is some development for several characters though. Karina and Ashiee both have arcs that go through the game if you do the various inn scenes and their sidequests late in the game. Back story and some development is given to many of the other characters as well via side stuff. That said, I myself am far less than satisfied with the amount of character development... but it is how it is. Our next game will be much, much heavier on character development.

I think your short playtime was in part due to not completing a lot of the sidequests. The FAQ section does mention how to complete most of the major ones, if you wanted to. There is also a bonus dungeon available after you complete the game and Karina's sidequest.

I am glad that you enjoyed our game overall and would recommend it, and thanks for the detailed feedback!

-find the VIP PASS

Head to the mayor of Squeenix in the present. This also somewhat answers why people remember you. Remember, Yoshida is still around, and you pretty much saved the town from destruction hence your legacy has been passed down.

-how to get chests when fishing

You just need a stronger rod, probably~

-find the little girl who travels the world

After you have completed the air mail quest, she will appear in various areas at certain points. You don't get anything from her, but you can see that she is traveling. =)

-get the retired weapon smith to do anything

After the Genesis Tree, if you head to the forge you should find a sword out front. That will start a sidequest.

-find the mirrior of ra

Head to the past, and northeast of the castle there is a small hut where you can get it. A sidequest in Wadapolis should point you here as well.

-find the mail moogle to give him a letter

He is at Sundiland Pass.

-a list of other side quests i just passed on

Most of these are in the FAQ if you cared to do them.

found it but who is bastok iamtheone

Well since you asked~ Rydia touched on it a bit but I will go fully in depth with it!

Bastok Iamtheone is a person who played FFXIV 1.0 (and currently I believe plays 2.0)... From everything I have read and heard from the guy... I guess the best way to describe him is that he is fairly eccentric. He would make posts on the official FFXIV 1.0 forums about a love story. He would also post videos about some Love story, generally poorly edited and the majority of the FFXIV 1.0 community could not understand him. He would also post about this love story.

For an example of one of his videos I will link you too:
https://youtu.be/Ys8hbRNNzpY

Most of his videos were like this.

(we added him to the game BEFORE this next section was even known to us)Like Rydiamist and I, Bastok Iamtheone also created an RPG maker game during the downtime of 1.0 and 2.0, called "Chrono Legends 1999 - a 20th Anniversary Project" and placed it on kickstarter. He was featured in the following video of failed Kickstarter projects:

https://youtu.be/wno8GvEhydA

Rydiamist actually found this video first since he was subscribed to the youtube channel, and found out it was this guy after the fact, A guy who we already knew from the FF Lovestory videos and the official forums.

He also has a book on Amazon called "Bastok Iamtheone " The Perfect Love story": Science fiction stories", it can be found here:

http://www.amazon.com/Bastok-Iamtheone-Perfect-Love-story-ebook/dp/B00KD3FE7I

If you are curious, you can take a look inside.

The conversation he had with Flame for Flames relic weapons are actually things that he said in comments on youtube (slightly edited so it kind of makes sense?). One of the favorite things he likes to post is in youtube comments is "Shame is brought forth on Hyperion."

where is the feather.
and where is Squeenix.

- In the Chocobo Forest near the Undead Castle on the northwest continent
- West on the Northwest Continent
bin in the two forests no feather ?
can't fine squeenix.
i got to go to the Genesis Tree.
You need to visit Squeenix first. Squeenix is where Wadapolis was in the past. From the Riverside Cabin fly west over the rivers and mountains, then south and you should see it. Once at Squeenix, enter the town and head straight down the road until you come to the chocobo stable. Enter the stable and speak with the NPCs. After this, leave town and fly to the Undead Castle. Alternately, since it is labeled on the map you can fly to Gurgu Village and then fly east across the mountains then north a bit. There is a chocobo forest there. Enter it and the black chocobo feather should be in the back right corner of the forest.
thanks for you help.
but can't get to the past
how do i do that.
i fined the were it use to be
You don't need to go back to the past, but if you ever do need to you can do it from the altar in the Silent Woods. Squeenix is in the present, at the same place Wadapolis was in the past.
is Wadapolis were the town ruins are ?
The town shouldn't be ruins anymore after you return from the past, but yeah that's the place.
do i go to the past to get the feather
Nope, the feather is also in the present. It's at the chocobo forest near the undead castle.
Question:
How do you save Cassie?
Even with Game+ the End was the same.

You have to do a lot of stuff, most of the character sidequests, and some inn scenes.
where is garuda's peak.
looking for king behemoth.
It's the mountain just north of Enaya, where the Wind Crystal was.

I missed 5(!) inn scenes.
So thanks for this help. The better ending had some aspects I was hoping of.
Lots of kudos for this decent Final Fantasy game in RPG Maker...
i hope many of the scripts (including the final fantasy styled scripts) aren't yours...
