The download has been updated to version 1.69. It includes all fixes up to this point. There is no need to re-download if you have patched in the fixes separately.

You know that game many aspiring devs create? The one starring their friends, often times based on a chat room, or some forums, or a MMO... or perhaps a fangame that barely resembles its source material. The one that gets maybe a half hour of gameplay finished and is completely unintelligible to anyone except that group of friends. Yeah, that one. Now, what if someone actually saw that project all the way through, and attempted to actually make it a fun, accessible, and playable game that was faithful to its source material?

Enter Legend of Balance. This game originally started out as a fun little project for friends, starring characters from Final Fantasy XIV. Over time, and with a ton of effort, it changed into a complete game of its own. It still stars our characters, and there are still a few injokes, but the plot has been set up as such that any Final Fantasy fan can get into the game and enjoy it as a light hearted Final Fantasy romp. Players of FFXIV will find quite a bit to enjoy as well. The story of the game takes place inbetween the end of FFXIV 1.0 and the start of A Realm Reborn(if you haven't played FFXIV, this part probably doesn't matter, and the game can be standalone).

The game revolves around a group of heroes, champions of the realm of Eorzea. In the midst of an intense battle to decide the fate of Eorzea, the heroes are transported away before facing certain death at the hands of Bahamut. Finding themselves separated in a brand new world, the heroes begin a journey to reunite and find a way home. However what starts off as a simple quest quickly unfolds into a classic journey of crystals, great evil, and steadfast allies. Before this adventure ends, they will discover the truth behind this strange new world, and uncover the binds that tie it to their own home and beyond.

-30 to 40 hours of gameplay, including a multitude of sidequests.

-Enjoy a faithfully recreated Final Fantasy battle system. Everything is as you remember it from the classics!

-Utilize classic abilities, including commands such as Jump, Runic, Blitz, Mime, Throw, Mix, Blue Magic, Dualcast, and much more, along with new commands and abilities based on other games in the series, such as Draw Out from Tactics.

-Equip Magicites to gain access to powerful summons and customize your stat growth.

-A huge cast of unique playable characters, including several hidden ones.

-Find and use faithfully recreated equipment. Favorites like the Ultima Weapon, Illumina, Brave Blade/Chicken Knife, Offering, and much, much more is all here to find and use to become unstoppable!

-Dozens of sidequests ensure there's plenty to do, with no need for excess grinding.

-Face off against familiar foes and brand new ones, including a nostalgia filled bonus dungeon for those who complete the main story.

-Facing a foe that your current party can't handle? Switch party members anytime, even in the middle of a fight!

-Buy rare and unique items at the Auction House, and battle in the Colosseum!

-Take part in minigames, including fishing and an arcade-style airship shooter.

-Customizable Battle Speed, Battle Mode, and Difficulty will get you the experience you want, be it tough as nails or a more relaxed game.

Misaos and Fun Times in RPG Makers Animation Editor!

First off I want to say thank you so much to everyone who voted for our fangame in the Misaos! We won in a few categories and got pretty close to winning in a few others. I was very humbled by all of your support and am very grateful as well. I know Rydiamist feels the same way, So again thank you everyone! Your support is huge motivation booster to get stuff done on our next fan game!

Rydia has been working on making a small little bonus to the game to celebrate getting 5000 downloads! I personally have moved away from working on Legend of Balance other than looking into bug reports we get here and there… but I that doesn’t mean I don’t have something new to contribute to it as well!

I have been spending a lot of time working on our next Final Fantasy fangame, making sprites, looping music, making maps and tilesets, all sorts of fun stuff… but in addition to that, I have been trying to recreate some cool Final Fantasy animations in RPG maker. Let me tell you guys something… I HATE RPG makers animation editor so much, it is so hard to work with… but you have to do what you have to do.

One of the animations that I have been working on has been Fenrir. Now, I always thought it was strange that Legend of Balance didn’t have a Fenrir Magicite since (spoilers) you fight Fenrir in the game. However! For the 5000 download patch, I would like to present to you, Fenrir's Animation~!



Now i’m off to slave away on our next fan game!

is there a walkthrough guide im stuck in the pyramid
I just wanted to say that this is the only game from the site I've played more than the first 2-3 hours of and that you are all phenomenal. The humor, the gameplay, the dialogue, everything about this game is amazing. I feel like I'm playing an extremely funny game made by Square Enix themselves.

I'll post a full review when I see the credit roll.

This game pulled me away from the actual FF14 for far too long. Just finished off the bonus dungeon, enjoyed the whole thing very much :)

It was strange having 18 characters; the relative lack of development for each fit well for it, though. I was hoping to at one point find a dungeon that required multiple parties like in VI (could have had 4 :o) ... but I guess this worked too. Especially since I settled on the game-breaking party pretty quickly.

I played on hard the whole time. Which initially was painful,slowly fading into seeming like 'normal' around the time of the scenarios, and became 'easy' by the time I started doing all the character sidequests.

As others have mentioned, Abelia is a walking game-breaker; though in my opinion, it's not so much her toolset as the way stats scale and magicite works. There is no reason NOT to leave Garuda/Diabolos on her the whole game ... giving her an Intelligence north of 200 by game's end. Causing her to cast the same spells for almost 10x the damage Flame does. I shudder to think what I could have done with Karina if I had given her the STR magicite for the whole game, instead of starting around level 45.

But, as I saw ... awesome game. Thank you for making/sharing it!

Well to be fair there's nothing to do in 14 at the moment, hopefully patch 3.1 will have some fun meaningful content.

And thank you :D I'm glad enjoyed the game. And yeah a lot of people say that Abelia is game-breaking, which is fine considering most characters you can make OP if you really wanted to. As far as making multiple parties like FF6, we were considering it at one point but there were multiple reasons on why we didn't, one being that we didn't want to force characters on people if they didn't feel like playing specific class (esp since 4 characters are optional).


I just downloaded the game and it gives me the error ' Script 'InputEX' line 703: RuntimeError occurred.

I also downloaded from both links to try and it doesnt work. Really want to play this tho...

@Varn: Ash covered most of it, pretty much any character can be broken if you just keep a good magicite on them the whole game (that said, Bluff is definitely a bit broken). It was honestly a bit ill conceived on my part with how much stats scale by the end. I probably should have at least put a lower cap on stats, because even bonus dungeon bosses won't last very long with 200+ stat characters on them, haha.

The difficulty setting basically just increases mob stats, and in a couple of cases changes their AI very slightly. I probably should have put more focus on nastier mob AIs on Hard, since once you start getting more abilities and gear it becomes pretty easy to deal with the increased stats, so like you said Hard is still pretty easy by the end.

Honestly, the multi-party dungeon was more of an issue with being able to actually choose all of your parties and having that all sorted out properly than anything else (it's probably something I could do now, but with my scripting experience then it was a bit too much trouble). If we just had set parties, like Ash said it would have been just like the scenarios where we'd just be forcing characters on people.

I cannot promise this won't break something but it should get you around the DirectX issue. In-game control tips and such will be wrong though, and the controls may feel pretty weird.

I think the kraken club is slightly broken especially when two are equipped with the genji glove, it hits like 16 times or when it is equipped with something that changes the element of your attack, kraken club also takes on that element.
Anyone knows where Mielo is, i somehow cannot find it while sailing, just after the 3 scenarios, can anyone tell me where to go?
Hmm, you shouldn't be able to get 2 clubs... I'll need to have a look at that. The amount of times it hits is intentional but the hits should be fairly weak and it should make your skill damage go way down.

Mielo is to the east of Aquaria, just go east till you hit the coast then follow it till you come to a dock.
Thanks! got there, but I think there is a glitch, when using kraken club with a elemental weapon, when the weapon hits a Weakness, the "weakness" word stays on the screen.

Also, the blood sword will restore hits for any hit, not only just atk or seiken attacks, but also summons like ifrit or titan too, even though they are technically "Magic based" attacks


EDIT: also, there is a black screen glitch when entering Mielo's Inn and exiting Mielo's inn, since i all get after exiting the inn is a black screen and this does not happen with any other houses tho... (this is when everyone is still not moving, dunno if there is any effect tho)
Have you updated your game recently? A few of these problems have been fixed, namely the Mielo one. If you have the most recent version I will have to take a look at that and see if anything weird is going on. Blood Sword working on summons isn't entirely intended, but it works because summons aren't classified as magic damage per se. I'll see about fixing that up as well.
I just downloaded the game recently and am on the 1.69 version, but also the patch for DirectX issue that you passed to me too.
I'll have to take another look at the Mielo event then. It is done that way for another event later in the game but apparently it's interfering with entering and exiting the inn normally.
can you give exact location where recipient moggle sidequest...I'm stuck at it
