AESTHETICGAMER'S PROFILE

I'm Dusk Golem, aka AestheticGamer. You can also just call me Ryan. I work on small RPG Maker horror games for contests and pleasure, that usually tell cryptic surreal stories and were made relatively quickly. Most of my games either feature mostly original or completely original graphics, art, and music. However, I also work on much bigger and developed games as well. My first big developed RPG Maker game I'm working on slowly over time is Complete Isolation. In the meantime, I work and release smaller things here and there, they're good practice and learning experiences.

All Hallows' Event 2013

People need to learn for these contests to make sizable, manageable games that can have multiple points one can cut off development. I have only worked on my game for four days so far in the month and I'm certain I'm meeting the deadline.

Don't give up, we still have over a week, and you'd be surprised what you can manage in only a few days.

All Hallows' Event 2013

This is my second game contest thing I've done, but a lot more lenient, as the one I did earlier this year was Ludum Dare. I'm taking what I learned from that experience and working on a project I have a lot of ideas for and implementing, but I also could cut short any time and conclude it. Basically get as much done as I can, and then when the final week approaches focus on ending it off.

Actually I've only worked on the game three days so far, but I am impressed how much has been done in those three days. Did a lot of spriting, have original music already finished (22 songs are original, 1 was composed by myself and used in a previous project of mine but I'm re-using, and four are free-to-use songs from the internet). Done a lot of spriting, and so far have gotten more maps done than I expected.

But totally, COMPLETELY rushing it. Just a few unintended glitches and side effects.

But nothing to really worry about.

I will suggest on the music front if pulling from other sources to be a bit creative where you pull things from, sometimes recognizing a song from something else can take a person out of the experience, especially important for games that have a focus on immersion or atmosphere.

Even limited sound can be used effectively. Ao Oni's music is pretty limited, for example, but the 3 or so songs the game have are very effective in putting one on edge, and each song is only a few seconds loop.

On what I'm working on, I'm fortunate to have a 25-song original soundtrack, though I decided to ask a few people I know personally who I have worked with and take unused songs they composed for things and give purpose to them in this project, as well as a couple I've composed. This ended up in a 25-song original soundtrack, and happy as it fits the purpose of the game swimmingly.

Errr, I mean...

Totally rushing it, going to be one shoddy-ass game, etc.

All Hallows' Event 2013

TOTALLY RUSHING MY ENTRY IN, shoddy or not this will be done.

Cause I'm totally irresponsible, living life on the edge.

All Hallows' Event 2013

A silent word to my chicken monster, who I am now scrapping after working on it for an hour yesterday and making animation for after determining it just wasn't scary.

Pleasant dreams, sweet prince.
