ANIMEBRYAN'S PROFILE

I had to "Old Yeller" my old laptop, a laptop that has given me a decade of entertainment, became the ultimate retro console thanks to emulators, and has allowed me to pursue my dream of being a game designer with both RPG Maker & SMBX. Now, ALL of that work, is gone. This is not how my 40th birthday should be. I am dead inside now. I just don't give a shit about anything anymore ;_;

My Let's Test of Ratty's Radiant Rainbow Road v2 (W9):

So it looks like I'll be testing Seiromem's levels next.

I have Completed Turbulent Temple and would like it to be playtested by others too! It has no checkpoint, as it's an autoscroll level. So I'd like it if you guys gave your thoughts on it's pacing and length, and if I sprinkled enough power-ups throughout.

This worries me. Even if you have auto-scrolling, it wouldn't hurt to add a 2nd section so that you can add a checkpoint though. If the level is short enough though, then I guess not having a checkpoint isn't so bad.

My Let's Tests for Hali's Cold Cathedral & The Koopling Armada:

Col. Cryo's Cruelly Cold Cathedral v3 (W5):

The Koopaling Armada (WX):

(Facepalm) It wasn't just the Cathedral level that didn't get uploaded. I also did a Let's Test of Ratty's Radiant Rainbow Road, so I'll have to do that one again.

@Bryan:The last video I see for Cryo's Cathdral is 6 minutes long and features my spectacular designer oversight. In other words, it's not up-to-date.

Crap! Something went wrong then. I know I recorded another Let's Test after the fix, but it seems I didn't get it uploaded or something. In that case I'll be redoing a Let's Test of Cryo's Cathedral as well as The Koopling Armada tonight.

Acceptable?
Aww damn it, you beat me to it. I had recolored that spiny using Redigit's SMB3 styled Dry Bones for color tones, but looks like you got it taken care of. FYI, did you know there's a flaw with the spiny's lower-middle spike being misaligned? As well as there being miscolored pixels around that spike (One is shaped like this ( & the other a 2x2 square on the other side). View it in a image editor like Paint.net or GIMP & zoom it until you can make out each pixel & you'll notice it.

@Hali: Actually, my latest test for Cryo's Cathedral was the one after you fixed the water issue, so there's no need to test it again.

@pyrodoom: It's funny that I actually open that debugger first thing but never seem to pay attention to everything that's on it all at once. Must be my bad habit of overlooking things sometimes.

@Davenport: Did you fix the number of flowers in your levels to 5?! No more or less? Did you take out that Red Coin nonsense? Did you fix all the issues I mentioned in each of your levels? Because I'm not testing your levels UNTIL you fix those issues!

I'm really not sure why you tested Snow Mountain since it wasn't even updated. Anyway, it's definitely going in W6 and we probably just didn't change the file names to reflect it yet. Thank you for enduring things.

BTW, I fixed that dumb stuff in Cryo's a while ago and I didn't see a video posted for Radiant Rainbow Road, so that's why they're still highlighted.
I tested it because Davenport made a post with some links to all the levels he updated & Snow Mtn was among them. Although seeing as most of them didn't have the proper number of flowers in them, I find it hard to believe that he really updated them at all. What stuff in Cryo's did you fix? Because the latest test I did didn't seem to have any problems in it (from what I remember).

@Blobofgoo: I did a google search for SMBX SMB3 styled Dry Spinies & nothing came up. Either they're really hard to find or no one's made them yet. I could give it a try tonight & have them uploaded by tomorrow though.

Don't bother with Ice Climbers; it's in no condition to be tested. Snow Mountain is supposed to be in W6, but my zip files may be a bit off in their naming. I keep the names the same so they overwrite in my locker instead of being added new, so they don't all accurately reflect world and title changes. For example, Yoshi's World Tour is still in a zip file named W9_The_Yoshi_Relay_Race, even though it's current.

Too late! I'd did it anyway:

Davenport's Ice Climbers (WX) (FAILURE!):

Why? Why does he troll us with his levels & his obsession with Red Coins?

A Balance Question for Everyone

If flower hunting was intended to be important enough that you want to change level design to accommodate it, levels should have been designed with this in mind; shorter levels with no checkpoint, ala Mario 3. I'm not trying to sound like a downer but its too late to fix this now. Trying to patch it after the fact by optionally taking away checkpoints sounds like a hassle for you to implement and will it really solve the problem? I say just leave it as it is. It's a huge amount of work for a feature I honestly do not think really facilitates flower collection meaningfully.
I have to admit one thing, Flower Mode really should've been thought-out before hand & disclosed to all of us before we started so that we could've kept it in mind when designing these levels. It does seem kinda sloppy to come up with this concept now & having to implement it after the fact.

Oh well. What's done is done. This is just how it'll be. I should also mention that this method might be redundant in my Yoshi's World Tour level since the mid-point doesn't stop the player from going back to get the 5 flowers since all the areas in that level are fully accessible all the time.

A Balance Question for Everyone

Now where exactly do you plan on placing these mushrooms? In the Flower Mode block at the beginning of each level, in place of the missing mid-points or both?

A Balance Question for Everyone

I think the real question is why include the up-side-down ?. Wouldn't it just look better with just 1 ?.

@NeverSilent: Well thank you. As a matter of fact I'm not quite ready to throw in the towel just yet. In fact I'll be doing some more Let's Tests tonight, including:
Blobofgoo's The Grand Pyramid (W2)
pyrodoom's A Cheesy Level (W9)
Davenport's levels

Although I'm not sure about his W9 Snow Mountain as it isn't listed in the stage list & each developer can only submit 1 level per world, so I don't know if Hali would let that one slip by even as a World X level considering Davenport already has a level in that one too (Ice Climbers). That reminds me, I've actually never tested that one yet.
