City or rural (suburbs)?
I think you mean that's how it is in America (or new world countries), although I'm not sure if that in itself is correct.
I think those towns in Wales or English that are close to 50% Polish would disagree that it's about skin colour. Or the Philippinos (how do you spell that?) and Chinese getting the shit jobs in Japan.

The straight up BEST Final Fantasy
post=93273TauI blame load times. Fuck all those camera sweeps and pans when some random fight against a tumbleweed starts. It takes half a minute from the start of a random encounter just to run away from it. Wandering anywhere takes ages because of this.
Oh I see what you did their.. Why is it you didn't like IX exactly though?
This is a big reason. Also that the ATB gauge takes forever to fill up. It successfully makes the battle aspect of the game excruciatingly boring (it had this in common with VIII).
The story also starts nice in the sense that it's meaninglessly referencing past Final Fantasies (for no reason other than nostalgia it seems), but then it turns into the same sort of "You are not who you think you are, you are artificial etc." sci-fi esque storyline. The characters are also flat as hell and seem more like concepts for characters than fully fleshed out characters. .
It has a lot in common with XII in that the first 3 hours make it seem like the game is going to just be phenomenal, and then all the reasons that made those first 3 hours fun fizzle out and what your left with is bordering on mediocrity, but usually less.
City or rural (suburbs)?
I've lived my life in suburbs or in towns close to cities (which are almost the same). I always have the intention of moving to the city, but it's a lot more expensive than living a 30 minute train ride into the city.
Vancouver is quite diverse. It was good times. Japan's not so diverse.

Worst game you personally do like.
I'll go with games I like and think are actually bad, because I don't know popular opinion on many games.
7th Saga.
Lufia 1 and 2.
Klondike (Solitaire for the ipod)
Paladin's Quest
Mystic Quest
Ultima: Exodus

Out of curiosity, what 8/16-bit era RPGs do you like?
Ok. It just seemed like the complaints you had were basically on the games light heartedness and simplicity, which I thought was characteristic of the 16-bit era. I think similar complaints could be made of most of the (great) 16-bit era games.
What are you currently reading?
I'm always trying to read things besides Murakami, but I read 5 pages in 2 days and get bored. Then I buy a Murakami book and I finish it in 2 days. I don't know what's going on.
Anyways, I just finished Dance Dance Dance, which I read while slowly slowly reading the Plague.

So like, there is a new Final Fantasy DS game
That screenshot of FFIV for DS doesn't look so bad. The bodies look fairly well proportioned.
The intro screen shot you posted looks like a shitty Xbox game, so I'm glad it doesn't look like that... plus there's probably graphical limitations.
I also prefer the original because it's in 2D though. I love 2D RPGs a lot more than 3D ones.

Chrono Cross is amazing. I sadly never finished it, but as soon as it's releasead on PSN I'll drop everything and do so.

The "best" Final Fantasy all comes down to personal perspective.
If their were really a best one it would probably be Final Fantasy VII because of how popular and high selling that game has and is the most highly regarded of the series? You could argue/debate which is or isn't but what's the point, not everyone will agree with what you like and vice versa.
BTW I think Final Fantasy IX is my favorite for overall appeal and that the game was just enjoyable throughout.
Why hello there Mr. Relativist.

What's there to dislike about Chrono Trigger?
The game is way too easy, not just because you basically breeze through the game never having to level up, but because all of the sidequests and shit are pretty much thrown directly at you so that you don't need to look around, or explore, or prod the game or otherwise stimulate your brain at all to discover any of the non-linearity in the game. I super especially hate how much they gave away the already kind of obvious quest with that stone that needed to be exposed to the sun for like 65002000 years (I forget most of the details but I know that it was horribly given away), where it's like "hmm... this needs to be exposed to something really hot... and really big... like THE SUN... and it needs to be done for a long time... like maybe SIXTY FIVE MILLION YEARS... or something".
the disappointment of Chrono Trigger is compounded by the fact that the time-travel aspect of the game (aka pretty much the whole game) was done terribly - almost nothing you do has that much of a "lasting" effect on the future, if I remember correctly even opening chests in the year 600 doesn't ruin them for the year 1000 - even if I'm wrong about that, my point is that there aren't enough consequences in the future for the things you do while you're in the past.
Don't get me wrong, some parts of the game are done very well - the Dark Age (12000 BC) world was very memorable for me and the game has a lot of very likable characters (it's not exactly difficult coming up with "stereotypical prehistoric character", "stereotypical future character", "stereotypical middle ages character", etc but whatever, that's irrelevant)
Out of curiosity, what 8/16-bit era RPGs do you like?
