Oh man, that'd be cool! Like, maybe if your story's synopsis is selected in the final 3 after the first checkpoint, you've gotta write another little bit or perhaps the first page of your story or.. hell, maybe even a storyline? :P
I'd say people are quite divided when it comes to judging. I'll agree that letting everyone judge is fair but what happens if by a certain time not enough people have voted? And I suppose the audience could be just as biased as a set panel of judges. Someone sees a member they like voting for entry #4, so they think, "eh, can't be bothered to read it but that seems like a popular choice, so I'll vote for #4 too."

I am both enraged and bewildered by the comments generated by that kid's name.
I mean, if I had a kid and wanted to name it something nerdy that would ruin its life, I'd at least try to conceal it in some way like using a normal-sounding name or putting it as a middle name instead.

Do you think it's better to let the audience do the judging or have set judges from the beginning? I like the idea of a points system though, that'd certainly make judging much easier!

Kind would be writing you the story you wanted. :P Glad I helped slightly though, and I hope you find someone who can write you a nice story if you don't do so yourself!

Yeah, I saw the huuuuuuuuuge amount of work ahead of me when it came to custom tiles and wanted to hide in the corner and cry. But custom tiles are much prettier and less generic.. and it's not like I've done much mapping with the RTP thusfar. Nothing I would miss if it got replaced.
Maybe I'll work on things that aren't mapping like character development and have a go at making some custom tiles in the meantime. Then I can be doing something productive towards the game while still trying out new things.
I guarantee this will go horribly wrong.

Story line Maker Event
Well I'm certainly given a few ideas for some future competitions, maybe.. Perhaps the "Story Synopsis Maker Event" where you have a week to write two paragraphs (no longer than 100 words). This would mean no one would have trouble reading through every single entry.
Naturally, there'd be a theme or requirement like you must use the word "egregious" at least twice in the synopsis. Or it must be about a pirate ship. Or there must be themes of self-loathing. Or all three!
Do you think something like this might be a little easier to execute?

This is a screenshot of my town which I'm still sorta working on.. I'm having a bit of a mental war deciding whether to go for custom tilesets or not. I've seen some really nice stuff people have made from scratch, so I'd like to give it a go at least. The trouble is that I can't continue with mapping until I've decided. >_<

Perhaps if they do a second round of the competition, a better theme could come up in future. Though that might be a long time to wait.
In the meantime, I really recommend you use a generator site like Seventh Sanctum to build a basic story up without having to do any actual thinking. That's normally what I do when I want to practice. You can generate a storyline but also characters with brief explanations of their talents.

I know this isn't everything you asked for, but you could take a look here at the Story Line Maker Event. I'm sure if you asked real nice, someone would let you use their storyline (as it was just for a contest, I don't assume they'd have much else in mind for it). Some of them contain more information than others, so some may even contain character stats/etc. that you'd like. Or if you found one you liked without the info, you could post it here and get someone else to flesh it out further for you.
This is just me trying to squeeze as much goodness out of that event as possible, by the way. Seems a bit of a shame to have so many stories written and nothing done with them. :P Just make sure you ask the people, obviously.
