Whoa Gallant, I really like that style. I don't know if it'll work, but trying lowering the contrast of the sprite and it might fit in a little better.
Also, had does the navigation work on that map? Can you walk freely, or is there some sort of system that transports you around to different keypoints on the map?

It's sort of reminiscent of Metroid, only it doesn't take itself seriously. It also plays like a NES game, so download it swines.

I'd like to contribute a few very good Japanese sites I have found.
1) http://cyocorune.cocolog-nifty.com/daily_vx/
This one is a blog that Mack updates regularly with bits and pieces of tilesets and autotiles and such. There is A LOT of awesome stuff here.
Keep in mind it is mainly RMVX stuff, but a lot of it will work fine
in XP.
2) http://homepage2.nifty.com/nakkuruman/
This site has a couple very good Rpg Maker VX character sets, and many beautiful XP sets.
3) http://lightpsychoman.lolipop.jp/
This one is the best one. The pixel art here is amazing and very artistic. There isn't too much here, but what's there is some of the best you'll find... but good luck matching the style. It has a couple 2k/3 character sets, and a bunch of monsters. There's also some assorted random stuff around there too, like what seems to be icons.
Check this one out even just to look at it, it might not be of any use to you.
