Players x Experts - Our attitude on playing games
post=155467post=155455Then you shouldn't have played it in the first place.
What if there is absolutely nothing good about a certain game?
Seriously, it's not that hard to predict when you're not gonna like a game (by description, screenshots, etc.), is it?
People say I tend to be overly nice with my reviews, but that's because I only play games I expect to like.
The sad thing is that there are those in our world that still try their damnedest not to "judge a book by its cover", and that give new things a shot, though this sets them up for disappointment in most cases. Sure, I wouldn't buy a commercial game if it didn't tickle me, but free amateur games are in a completely different category.

Seems I've already managed my way into an argument with some guy over his assumptions that I believe all VX users are supposedly "noobs". I would enjoy getting to know this fellow, but considering our first conversation went over like this, which is quite sad due to the fact that it wasn't even a serious comment that sparked it, I might be forced to decline further communications with said character.

I think apart from some of the good points this topic has brought out. It solely depends on the reviewer and the game being reviewed. I mean if I didn't like RPGs and I reviewed an RPG Maker game it's obvious I would see it in a more negative light than positive.
It would help and spare the developer's feelings if critics could at least keep this fact in mind and try to balance the good and the bad, that way it gives the developer some incentive to keep making games. Reviews are supposed to bring out the good and the bad, while some reviews are harsh they lack one thing, telling the developer what was good about their game and what they actually did right. However a review that just says good things doesn't help either.
Closing point: A review, just like everything else needs to have a balance.

Hero's Realm Review
What did you mean about the Colosseum when you said that your hero's levels were cut in half or set to zero?

I've decided to go ahead and release a new demo of DFQG that addresses the need for gold (you now start with 500, though if this is too low, I may increase it later or make a sort of "starter kit" of potions) and also includes a makeshift battle escape disabler to avoid eventing errors that come with Rm2k's inability to disable escapes on its own, all the while expanding the game world that the player can explore. I've also, like I said before, fixed the odd wall in the hero's home.
If there are any other simple changes that you can recommend to make the game more playable, please tell me, though starting from scratch on any one specific part would probably be shrugged off.

This is kinda off topic but I've seen some really suspicious reviews on this site. For example lost legacy recieved two 4.5 reviews from two seperate people with no history of ever posting on this site before and the written content absolutly stinks of advertisement throughout. My point is I think it's wrong for devolpers to recruit friends to give great reviews for their game. The most saddest scenario is going under a alias and then reviewing the damm thing if your that desperate.
I'm proberly wrong about Lost legacy but I can't help but wonder :(
I remember when I accused the people who gave the first Eden Legacy 4-4.5 star ratings of the same thing.

I'm glad that you gave this a shot, and to be honest, I'm extremely happy to finally have someone make a video of them playing my game. I'll make sure to watch over this and see if there's anything that sticks out that I need to improve.
EDIT: I got a good laugh out of the first video, and I agree that some of the jokes were pretty juvenile. I also found out that there was that one corner in the hero's house upstairs that I missed the wood corner, and I went back through and fixed it.
Also, I had no problem battling where necessary and buying potions and the sort to stay alive. And unlike in other games, using skills, especially Samantha's healing abilities, is a must, much like being around the right level for the area, which around the Pig Army Fortress I would suggest being around level 5-6. If you manage to hit level 6, Samantha gets her first group healing spell and Laura gets her group fire spell, while at that point Johnathan will have both a group enemy strength debuff and a single ally defense buff. I was honestly questioning whether or not I should have put shops/inns in Darunmus, but it's most likely something that I won't be changing.
You'll have to trust me on this one, but seeing as how the first boss is a joke, you shouldn't have to battle beyond level 2 to be prepared for fighting the bats in the wasteland that will reward you enough to really start buying potions and equipment.
