RMN 4th birthday 4-hour

Goddamn it, I'm out. I have absolutely no desire to make a fangame.

RMN 4th birthday 4-hour

Ugh... I can't say I'm thrilled about the event's theme. I hate being forced to base my work on an existing creation of someone else's... This was the primary reason I skipped the previous event (create a game adaptation of a horror movie of your choice... yawn), and I'm having trouble finding a game or whatever that I'd like to make a 4-hour sequel to. I'd rather work on something original. I hope this doesn't become a trend and future events will not force the participants to create derivative work.

RMN 4th birthday 4-hour

I get the feeling this is how Final Fantasy 13 was done - a 4-hour long game designer jam session AND a wild rave on the Tokyo metro. Too bad the writer was on sick leave that day. Don't make the same mistake, folks.

A Brief Treatise on Losing: Getting a Game Over in Edifice

I'm kind of out of the loop. So is this Demon Tower ver. latest?

I was wondering that too. Maybe because someone would have to spend 2 minutes copy-pasting the info and do you know how much FUN STUFF you could be doing in those 2 minutes?

Ooh, lens flare. That's so 90's.

Starseed: Blood Machine Review

I still love you, you son of a bitch (aka plz come back to rpg makin').

As for what you're saying I agree wholeheartedly. And yet I know that this is all natural - after all, not many people line up to watch the newest low budget movie that eventually becomes a cult classic, but you can bet your ass they will see the latest Bay masterpiece 'cause it's been hyped to shit. That's the way it goes; unfortunately, marketing is king. You don't spend hours posting about your game, like, everywhere, seven days a week, you don't use marketing hooks and yadayada, and your game will remain obscure. Either accept it or become part of the system and ride the wave of HYPE, BABY!

A lose - lose situation?

Community support is out of the question because we are a bunch of jealous motherfuckers and we'd sooner die than help someone spread the word about their game. Because, you know, why should we? We could be spreading the word about our own game instead, right?, not wasting time on someone else's. This won't ever change; once again, it's human nature. Besides, writing is painful and requires effort and time and inspiration and GOD I'M NOT WRITING ABOUT YOUR GAME SHUT UP ALREADY!!!1 Now excuse me, I got my own vaporware to hype. PS you're a jerk, Legion, because you dare write about your game. No one is allowed to hype their game unless they're ME. HA HA HA!

BTW, your dialogue is OK, even if this game wasn't your best. Playing various indie RPG's was an eye-opener for me. Those people can't write for life! It's like they took a "How to write dialogue" kind of book and did everything IN REVERSE. It's that bad. Blood Machine is Shakespeare compared to most indie RPG's. So no need to feel down or unloved or something (psst they said it because RMN hates you not because it's bad, but you didn't hear it from me!).

4 hour game

I think the best genre for such an event would be an adventure game (at least for RPG Maker). You need little to no coding, few sprites, and you don't waste time on game balance or creating spell animations. The downside is that you need a strong plot and that's not easy to come up with in an hour or so. You don't even need an inventory system, just make the item use automatic or with a simple show choice system. Strong script is a must.

Make sure you have a database of useful resources prepared beforehand though; searching for bitmaps and midis mid-development will take too much time.

Games making fun of RPG cliches stopped being funny years ago, so don't expect to be able to make a good one in 4 hours.
