Starseed: Blood Machine Review

@Karsuman - I've read your so-called review, you had posted it and probably accepted yourself, then you had it removed. Am I supposed to ignore that review and your attitude simply because you removed it from the site? Am I supposed to "unread it" or something? Legion had the opportunity to read it, as did lots of other people. How is it not relevant, even if it's no longer accessible?

I don't get it - how does he expect to improve without people ripping his game to pieces?

Do you even read what you write before posting? Do you honestly believe what you've just said? Because that statement just now is... I don't even know how to describe it. It's simply terrible. I'm speechless.

If you really believe that a person improves thanks to other "experts" shitting on their work every time he makes something new... then you must be living in a horrible, horrible world, a different one than I, for sure. For the record, about 95% of the pixelart I've posted on the Internet has met with positive reaction. I haven't stagnated, I'm improving with every piece I make. That people enjoy my art drives me to aim higher with every new piece. If Internet experts like you had "ripped to pieces" my first few sprites it would probably mean that I wouldn't be here drawing awesome pixels. Improve by having you work "ripped to pieces"... Jesus Christ!

Not to mention that most of the comments about BloodMachine didn't contain a drop of constructive criticism, so how is Legion supposed to improve based on those?

Starseed: Blood Machine Review

Karsuman's review and his post above is not an opinion, it's an attack. Both are as biased as they get. I'm not at all surprised that Legion's so pissed and defends his game and his own person so vehemently. If someone approached you and started spouting nonsense about your game and yourself, you'd be pissed too. There was nothing, I repeat, nothing constructive in Karsuman's posts; on the contrary, they're full of ad hominem. Hell, he himself says that his review was a reaction to Legion's auteur article. He judged the game before he even started playing it. For Christ's sake, he called the protagonist "fuck", just so that the dialogue in the game came off as ridiculous, and to spite Legion, too. How is that fair to him as both an the author and a person (yes, Legion's a human, not a bot; there's a human being on the other side, believe it or not; and he has feelings too, even though he drops f-bombs in his writing a lot)?

Some of the reactions are disgusting. It's as if there was an unwritten rule that allows for attacks on Legion simply because he's Legion. I bet if a similar situation (review/comments) occurred, but pertained to, say, Kentona, there would be an uproar and bans all over the place. But, hey, we're dealing with Legion, no one pities or cares about that scum, right?

One Night Review

They weren't. At least in One Night 2 there are not as many monsters, but One Night 3 is pretty much the same as One Night 1 in regards to the "battle system", exploration, and pauses during messages.

On a more serious note - I believe the game has potential; what hurt it the most is probably the lack of real betatesters. You can't achieve balance in a game tested only by yourself, really. There was a good suggestion in the review - if BloodMachine is such an ancient and powerful weapon, it'd be cool to see him completely obliterate all who stand before him for a couple of levels (at least), with difficulty rising progressively, as the enemy breaks out new weapons to use against the player. Right now BloodMachine seems weaker than a frigging Medic Mech! Increasing available MP would also be a good idea, because currently it's too limited to make good use of special abilities.

Oh, and about all the drama - it's pretty sad that a game with quality above that of about 80% of all RM games being released nowadays is treated as trash. I must admit I didn't like it at first too, but I gave it a second chance and I must say I see the potential, it's just that it needs more polish (and betatesters!). Storywise it's still better than all the fantasy anime crap you see on VX boards (and often on RMN too). I think it would be wise for Legion to advertise outside RMN more; it seems he's fallen into infamy around here (GW's back with a vengeance :) and no matter what he does there will be people who will kick the living crap out of him and his games (Karsuman's review - that was fucking vile, man; I'd like to see your reaction to a similar review of YOUR game).

Starseed: Blood Machine Review

I'm wondering what has happened to Karsuman's review :)

Oh, and you might change some of the font colors to white or something, because they blend with the tilesets A LITTLE too much. When I first saw the cutscene with the mages or someone talking (after you set off for the station) I thought I had a missing font, because there was no text visible, just the textbox.

Playing as a Mage is like playing on super easy mode.
The classes are NOT balanced for the demo.

EMP cannon is a daft idea. You can't have a skill that stuns your only character for two or so turns, especially when that character is not exactly a tank and dies pretty quickly for a god machine.
