The best modern RPG Maker games?

Oh, cool, I didn't see your edit. Thanks.

Hero's Realm's early FF rips turn me off horriblyâ€"if it's anything like the title and the graphics hint at, it's the kind of old-school game wher you just walk around and kill monsters. Not that it's necessary a bad thing, but that style of game bores the hell out of me. Exit Fate isn't RPGMaker enough for me, if that makes sense (and Last Scenario looks too RMXPâ€"and I want something pleasantly 2K/3). It doesn't look like it has the kind of inspirational charm that I'm looking for. Maybe I'm ust really picky, but I plan to sink a good amount of hours into the games.

I'm gonna try my hand at Balmung Cycle, even though the graphics originally threw me off (I've seen those graphics used in a million games). It does look well-made, though. I'll probably do a review or something eventually. Thanks.

The best modern RPG Maker games?

Epic Dungeon Monster Explore

I don't see how this kind of game is fun at all. All these games where its just wandrin around and fighting aren't fun to me. I want a good setting, characters, and story.

Ascendence looks cool, but there's only a demo released. Most of these only have demos. Is there anything complete?

The best modern RPG Maker games?

There are always "What are your favorite RPG Maker games?" topics. This is similar, but more about recommendations. I want to play a good game, but it has to be GOOD. And it can't be insanely difficult, eitherâ€"I don't like grindfests or anything boring. That means mechanic or battle-based games. I want somethin with story and setting.

So what games out there are the best, these days? I'm up to date (For the most part) when it comes to good RMXP/VX games (of which there are very very very few), but this place is more about the older makers, right? When I think about ABL or even stuff like Legion Saga or Jay's Journey, I feel goodâ€"like those games had a real special place. Something that feels RPGMaker-y without feeling like an RPG Maker game, if that makes sense.

It's been a while since I got enjoyment from a game like that. What's big and new and what would be fun to play?

When does the game end?

I got to a scene with a princess, and then she turned into a monster. I coudln't move and she killed me, then the proram closed.

Either way, it was interesting, but there wasn't much to it. I was expecting the game to be much scarier/freakier than that, based on what I had read about it. If there's more to the game beyond that, let me know, but overall I wasn't impressed. Cool concept, but not the greatest execution.

I don't really like platformers where the stratey is to die a bunch of times and have the levels memorized, anyway.

Metroid Prime Trilogy for Wii

The fan mocup is fucking gorgeous.

I absolutely love Metroid Prime and Prime 3â€"they're probably some of my favorite games of all time. Unfortunately I never played the second one (I heard it didn't live up the first through, anyway).

This is really cool. I hadn't heard about thisâ€"looks like somethin definitely worth spending the money on.

Racial Diverstiy In RPG's

In every game I've played that's set in the modern world or in the future, there has been a subtantial amount of racial diversityâ€"enough for me to think that this isn't an issue. I know that in my own games set in the modern or future worlds, there are characters of all sorts of races. Just because that's the way it is.

But games that are set in fantasy worlds are different. Most of these worlds are based on old Europe, and it makes sense that there wouldn't be much diversity there.

As for specific RPG Maker games, I haven't played TTHW in agesâ€"and when I did, I didn't play too much of itâ€"but from what I'm reading here, it sounds like iish settled for the closest graphics that he could find that fit his image of the character. Whether or not the character "looked" black or not, if it's the author's intention that the character is blackâ€"then he is. The resources in RPGMaker games(especially at that time) were seriously limited.

Sandfall was funâ€"but parts of it were too ambitious for the platform. Especially the graphics. I still have the majority of the completed graphics. After every release (I released two or three different demos of carious staged), I felt the need to redo the game from the beginning: it was never enough for me, graphically. Once I decided to go fully custom, it became too much work. Coupled with the fact that I was busy with other things by then, the project went on infinite hiatus. I still want to revisit the world, thoughâ€"the vast majority of the time put into the game was spent on worldbuilding.

Anyway, glad to be back. :D

Habits

I hold my mouse pointer off to the side and rapidly alternate clickinh the the left and right mouse buttons with my forefinger and middle fingers whenever I am reading anything online.

Are you bored? Check this out!

I find this hilarious. ;D

Yoâ€"I'm back.

Might not remember meâ€"but maybe you do. I've been away from the community for a while, focusing on my own things. I used to post all over the place and hang out in most irc channels. It's about time for me to start showing my face again around here, and around some other places maybe.

I used to be known as Ev (a long time ago), and then as Despain, which unfortunately has a pretty bad reputation among the kiddy rpg maker forumsâ€"like rmxp.org, which I used to run for a while until I got bored of the memberbase. These days I go by missingno or missingnoise, and I consider myself a writer, web designer, and pixel artist.

And I'm long overdue for a creative project.
