My Cure for the Rm2k3 Speed Issues

post=144095
Anyone who sets automatic text speed during cutscenes or (gulp) normal play should be slapped with a large trout, amateur or professional.

I'm curious. What annoys you? The text going too fast, too slow, the pauses between words? I slow down the message speed myself, but just a bit to keep the pace of the game as I like it.

Or if you're using RM2000 then this is just the patch for you to use ^^

I assume it doesn't work in 2k3.

My Cure for the Rm2k3 Speed Issues

Walking speed and message speed are slow? It's actually fast compared to most games.

Someone try it and tell me if it explodes.

A Story Without Words

Well, there's nothing wrong with a text-heavy RPG if it's well written and used. Many times it's more powerful to get across a story point without words, sometimes it's unavoidable. I think it's about balance. I wouldn't want an all-mute cast of characters, but too much silly chatter needs to be avoided.

Languishing Projects

I've had lots of cancelled projects, but I never let them sit there for long. It's like they haunt me, telling me "finish me off, come on you failure of a developer..."

So I delete them all shortly after losing all interest. I've lost many cool things I did over the years because of my compulsive "delete all" behavior. But hey, that's just how I am. Nothing to regret.

Would this annoy you?

If the game were good, it wouldn't annoy me. Well, by good I mean if I liked it. Depends on who and/or how is the main character, the battle system, the overall feel and pace of the game.

What the heck, if the quests you can do at your own leisure are interesting, it could be better than a story driven adventure.

I'll tell you what would annoy me: those games that start out slow with a boring ass intro, trying to force a supposedly depth storyline down your throat. Especially when it's just a DEMO. Everyone has a story to tell, but I think it's important to let the player discover it while playing. So many times it's just text, text, text, scene, text, text... I am guilty myself because I've made a game like that too, and that's why I recognize the pattern.

Did I see Breath of Fire chipsets?!

*steals and runs away*

... Wait a sec. I am not using chipsets. My maps are panoramas. Ripped straight out from the games. Thanks but no thanks. *throws away*

I want all kinds of charas though, but those I can rip myself if there are none around. And the lack of battle animations kills me too.

Breath of Fire : Legacy

Oh yeah, I missed it.

Nice review, too. Tells me all I wanted to know about the game.

Like, the silence status must not prevent dragon transformations!

DOING IT! - WEEK FIVE

I just completed something outrageous. I put together the overworld map of both Breath of Fire 1 and 2. The above is a small resolution version, because the original image is 8000x5520 and is over 3 MB despite being a PNG file.

Notice how small is the Breath of Fire II map on the right. I couldn't tell while playing the game, I always thought it was a big world.

I'm definitely going to use this for my game. Sucks that it's a static image... Meaning, the ocean won't be moving on there. But the possibility of having such a map is too juicy to pass. That's what fangames are for, doing crazy stuff.

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

I am playing Breath of Fire I.

SNES version of course.
