ELDER71'S PROFILE

Hi, I'm Stephen, lead designer of OMNIS - The Erias Line.

Aspiring game-dev, societal drop-out, coffee drinker, chain vaper. Pixel tweaker. Location maker. Character dreamer-upper.

Also a part-time Parallax Mapper available on commission.
(contact me re: commissions at elder71@hotmail.co.uk)

ALSO - I like reviewing games. If you're looking to get your game fairly reviewed with constructive criticism/feedback, PM me or email me or otherwise contact me telepathically. My messenger-pigeon service is out of order following an unfortunate incident that involved a jumbo-jet engine.

Cheers,

Researching Artist Commissions

author=Red_Nova
I don't have any experience in art commissions, specifically, but I can tell you that when it comes to budgeting, always plan to spent more than you think to give yourself some wiggle room. In StarSkipp's instance, where it fluctuates between $10 - $25, I'd plan for about $35.

Sorry I can't help you with your specific problem, but this has just been my experience when it comes to planning a financial path. If I were in your position, I'd be looking around at artists and seeing the ratio of art quality to pricing. People have different prices depending on what kind of art they would do (facesets, busts, full body images, etc.) so being given a hard number like $10 - $25 is actually less helpful than you think.

Yeah, I've also emailed a few artists I found on DeviantArt inquiring about their pricing to get as wide a field of data as possible. Our budget contains a standard 15% extra on top for just the reason you suggest - namely that we don't want to risk accidentally under budgeting for anything.

From my experience with portraits, it fluctuates between $10 up to $25. Prices might be cheaper if you shop around, but definitely hold onto the same artist once you nab them for the sake of consistency.

Yeah, definitely. Not as costly as I had guessed, which is reassuring as we move forward. Thanks for the advice.

Researching Artist Commissions

Hi all.

I suspect this is a common enough theme, but we're taking our project, "OMNIS - The Erias Line", to Kickstarter soon and I'm starting some research into how much a top-quality artist would charge for character avatars, busts and portraits as well as promotional artwork and other sundries.

We have a fairly ambitious target and, if we reach our goals, we'll have a considerable amount to spend on supporting artwork. I'd just like to get a few ideas on figures.

Thanks in advance, all.

The Journey Review

I think ill try this and see if it's as grotesque as here described.

Well, the thing with the plants seems pretty interesting. I wonder how do I know what pollen they lust for, if it has something to do with colors (yellow vs purple... complementary maybe?).

Do you know the Propagators from FFVIII? How if you didn't kill them in colour-pairs they'd just regenerate?

Aaaaaand good luck with the Kickstarter! I believe this deserves the green light (wait, that's from Steam!).

I think it's gonna be something to do with getting a certain kind of pheromone on you when you approach a randy pitcher. I'm gonna give some serious thought to this - puzzle creation isn't my strong suit but I don't want this to be a simple kind of match B with A and C with D affair.

And thanks for the nudge there man, for both KS and Greenlight. We've got Steam in our sights, but we don't want to risk building up a support base of increasingly impatient or going-off-the-boil fans.

I should add, I realise that I often flit schizophrenically between "I" and "we", but I assure y'all that there is a team (of humans) working hard on OMNIS and that they're not just figments of my pysche :)

Well, it looks and sounds really good. Good luck with the Kickstarter!

Cheers. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't sh*****g bricks about it.

Wow, these maps look so nice, I wish I could actually be there in person.
Are you using a lighting script, or are the lights just pictures(and/or part of the tileset)?

We're currently using Victor's Fog Overlay script to handle lighting effects and to create a 'foreground' layer. The above images are all on one layer only for now though. It's all done in Photoshop CS2.

This is absolutely outstanding. Nice work!

Cheers man. I can't wait to see how all of the elements look when put together.

Some info on the OMNIS story-system:

seems like a cool system ;) GL with it :)

It's a powerful but simple setup, but it's quite difficult to summarise.
The general idea is that the story has a set beginning, middle and end, but choices you the player make can alter how you experience progress from start to finish.

Does that make sense?
