ELDER71'S PROFILE
Elder71
1480
Hi, I'm Stephen, lead designer of OMNIS - The Erias Line.
Aspiring game-dev, societal drop-out, coffee drinker, chain vaper. Pixel tweaker. Location maker. Character dreamer-upper.
Also a part-time Parallax Mapper available on commission.
(contact me re: commissions at elder71@hotmail.co.uk)
ALSO - I like reviewing games. If you're looking to get your game fairly reviewed with constructive criticism/feedback, PM me or email me or otherwise contact me telepathically. My messenger-pigeon service is out of order following an unfortunate incident that involved a jumbo-jet engine.
Cheers,
S.E

Thyden Design and Animations Test
author=orochii
I love it. Everything on it. Except the sound the screens make every certain amount of time. I think it gets old too soon. I would suggest to make it dimmer, fainter... Just to make it stand out less.
Yeah, good idea.
I think I made the animations on the screens happen more frequently so that I wouldn't have to make the vid 5 mins long to stand around waiting for them to happen haha.
You're definitely right, though. They're just for background effect after all.
It's happened twice now. I write/submit a review, the game vanishes.
I suppose my attitude of treating every game and its dev like they want serious criticism and feedback is a bit out of place at times and not everyone is looking for unreserved breakdowns of their work.
I can't think, off-hand, of a way to tell the difference though. A hobbying kid could make a great game just as easily as a serious, aspiring dev could make a horrible game. The only certain way to avoid hurting the feelings of those who just wanted to enjoy making a game for the hell of it and share it seems to be to 'resist reviewing bad games', which risks starving people who genuinely want to know what people think of their work.
I fully concede that I apply a high (maybe even unfairly high) standard when reviewing, perhaps I'll contact the devs ahead of time in future and get to know them a little.

A New and Improved Thyden Harbour:
Instead of posting a static image of the whole map, I think I'll post a video of me wandering around and such. That'd give a much better idea.
A New and Improved Thyden Harbour:
author=Vegnarusauthor=Elder71Yeah I figured that looking at it at once made it more noticeable but I thought that it was still worthwhile to take a look at it so I mentioned it anyway! But if you're going to add diagonal movement, then maybe it won't be as bad if you can use actual slopes.
Long time no speak fella!
One of the problems with this image is that the lack of a vanishing point's influence on perspective becomes far too noticeable when viewing a map all at once.
I've since added a few details that hopefully make things clearer and, though this is maybe a total cop-out, players won't visit this map until the full-game-version and by then we'll have arranged a 'moving diagonally up and down' type feature, so it can feature actual slopes rather than just simulated ones.
Having said all of that, I haven't actually 'plugged it in' and tested it yet, so there may be significant issues to fix once I've explored this map in-game.

You're very welcome!
2 abyssals with one page of reviews is tough luck, but I hope you'll stay in the business
I will, no doubt.
Having checked, though, I think it's actually 3.

Hey Stephen, it's been a while! Just chiming in to see how you're doing! Good job on the redesign. Though the slope-like rows on the left and right sides look a bit disorienting.
If it's a constructed (as in, non-natural) downward slope, you can make it clearer, smoother and maybe add some shadows, signs or symbols to convey orientation a little better.
The way it is now, the rows look like both walls and levels and it's a bit odd! You can search for pictures of cliff towns and areas similar to Thyden, to gain some perspective and ideas on how to design it.

That's the way to go!
It's in your submissions/profile. You can't use the direct link as it links you to the review on the gamepage, but you can still view it using the almighty edit button.
And thus with edit you get the entire text plus the preview option to see it as it would look like.
Gah! Of course!
Thank you.

Edit: As a sidenote Elder71, please refrain from doubleposting. I've seen you do it a couple of times, just edit it in. Abuse that button!
Apologies, I'll edit in future.
EDIT
Ha, here we go, straight away!
Ahem.
Anyway, is there a way I could read my recent review of Radiant Blades? I have the word doc version of course, but just for my future reference I'd like to know where to dig it out on-site.

It's happened to me a couple of times too.
Like I say above, there should be some kind of archive for reviews, even if it's temporary, to stop the reviewer's work being for absolutely nothing. I refuse to feel pressured to give nothing but praise.

Radiant Blades this time.
It wasn't exactly a good game, nor was it at all a favourable review. I can imagine the feelings that must boil up when someone slams your game, however neutrally and constructively, but it sort of undermines the whole reviewing/feedback process if you give a game a bad review at the risk of it simply being deleted.
This may be a foolish question, but is there a review archive? I think, if a review is fair, constructive and honest, it should remain somewhere on the site even if the dev deletes his/her game to avoid it being read. Fair enough if the review itself is shitty trash, but from a purely selfish POV, I feel like my time spent playing the game and writing the review have been totally wasted.
