Notes on the Second Mellynd War [RM2K3 Version]

If you're hinting at the possibility of a new release, then you've made me a very happy man.

Super Mario RPG: The Seven Sages

I played this a while ago when it was posted somewhere else...it's made really well and there's lots to do. A bit too hard though!

Nifty little way I found to reconcile setting/background exposition and gameplay.

You can have a town where there's a school/college with a minigame where you are tested and you have to answer a series of questions based on plot background. Get them right and get good items,

Next Stop: Episode 1 Release.

I'm relatively unknown around here but I can also help beta-test if you need an extra one.

A Rut

I wouldn't consider the three games you mentioned as THE games of RPG Maker They're staple games, and probably the best games within the actual community. To me the "everyone" games are more like Exit Fate, The Way, and....Barkley Shut up and Jam (there's even a FAQ page for the latter on GameFAQs). Seems like you want your game to be the next Demon Legacy/Balmung/ABL. If you keep trying to live up to those you're just going to overwhelm yourself even further and then your game will just be a shadow.

Tell yourself, "I don't give a damn" and go make your game the way YOU want it, as long as it's quality. Don't worry about how others will perceive it (unless it absolutely sucks ass, which is definitely not the case from what I have seen!). Throw away the intention of creating the next best thing. I doubt the creators of those three games said to themselves constantly, "I need to live up to !" when working on their games so why should you? It's better to enjoy creating your game yourself than creating it for the sake of others...

Episodic Release?

Make it episodic. You'll be able to receive lots of feedback this way, plus you're more likely to generate a larger fanbase. Also because I want to play it nao

The Way Ep 4 Review

My favorite episode. It went downhill from here IMO.

Forever's End Review

Thanks for the positive comments guys! I hope the review provided you with much solid feedback (which it seems like it did)

Don't worry about the story too much, you don't have to go back and change a lot of things, it would just take time and extra motivation which could be used instead for new mapping and scripting. You COULD do this for the story: instead of starting out in Rikalia Castle with Epoch getting ready to go on a mission, have the game start out with Epoch in the prison cell, talking to the guy next door. Then, have Epoch flash back to where you originally start the game to show what had gone on. This does a few things:

1) Make the story more interesting in this section. The player may suddenly be intrigued as to why Epoch is in the cell of the kingdom he used to work for.

2) The transition from the fight at Levantia would not be so sudden (suddenly Epoch is in the cell!) because it's really Epoch flashing back to the situation.

3) It also stresses the importance of the man in the cell next door, somewhat.

4) If you ever plan on dividing your game into segments (as in chapters or such) this flashback sequence could be like the prologue.

Just a suggestion. This way you wouldn't have to go back and change dialogues, plot devices, etc. because this little change could actually contribute a lot to make the story a bit better, in my eyes.

So anyway...

I just finished it. I might write a full review sometime soon.
