Thanks - each area runs off its own original graphics set and is randomly generated using its own code to ensure the outside areas feel like outside, and interiors have their own flavour :)

This system is used only on the title screen - it changes in-game. I didn't feel that the games system worked with the monochrome title.

I like this title screen - it's effective enough to make the game stand out. Color scheme with the system set? Hmm, not so much...

The White Knight Chronicles Series

Interestingly I never actually PLAY as my character - I have him in the party but my active character is always Leonard. I tend to think of him in the same way I think of the support characters you create in some Dragon Quest games - a handy, completely custom party member that you can make into whatever you feel your team is lacking. Leonard is annoying for a good portion of the start of WKC1, but he does improve as things play out - he's rather likably heroic by WKC2's opening. Try setting him as your playable character for a bit and see if it helps?

Favorite RPG story and why?

Final Fantasy 4 has a story I could (and have! How many remakes now and I keep buying a replaying it??) play again and again. The themes of personal redemption and struggle between friends in the face of two characters loving the same woman is very well put together for such an old title, coupled with unexpected and touching character moments from supporting cast ('Stone!' yell the twins - and it takes you a moment to realise that Squaresoft just effectivly sacrificed two children to save your life). Still, in an effort to be less cliche I'll put my vote behind another game . . .

Kingdom Hearts, the original game was an unexpected masterpiece that managed to fuse two concepts (Disney and Squarenix) perfectly. The moment where you encounter Winnie the Pooh alone in the Hundred Acre Woods and he's trying to work out how to say goodbye to himself (because all his friends have dissapeared - presumed dead - and he's trying to rationalise it through the mind of a child) it heartbreaking. My wife sobbed into my shoulder for ages after playing that scene. I don't think any moment has ever really affected her in the same way, even Aerith's death or Tidus' closing moments in Final Fantasy X. The sequel wasn't as good but the series managed to pull some of that great writing back for Birth By Sleep - still, that first game impressed upon every single one of my friends that rpgs were a genre that could move you emotionally using only two characters having a calm conversation on a log. Simple, effective and very haunting. I praise the writing in that game alongside Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 as the best examples of games equal to art.

Final Fantasy 9 should also probably get an honourable mention for having character motivation and dialogue 100% spot on throughout.

Rise of a Legend

Happy to help - if you want any help with character/story ideas message me - I love creating settings and character interaction, and have a pretty good track record with scripts (http://cascadestudios.co.uk/goldenage/ for an example)

The White Knight Chronicles Series

Bounties are quite easy - I stumbled across them - just enter the area and scan the full map for an ! surrounded by a ring, that's the location of your monster. You don't need to activate a quest at all, they're part of the standard exploration map.

I found in 2 that the ability to duel-weild swords put my standard attack to similar levels as summoning the Knights, which made them a little redundent - I'm always a swords/healing mix player (+ Leonard) by preference with a bow/healing Yulie as backup.

Level 5 games always have a cool Georama feature of some kind in their original titles - Dark Cloud and Chronicle had the first ones and they ROCKED! Rogue Galaxy had a cool factory you could customise - they do amazing distractions to their main quests, lol. I don't understand why the series has a bad rep - especially since WK2 comes with a FREE remake of WK1 on the disc as well - it's a bargain for rpg fans.

Games that nobody remember?

Two games I felt deserved a sequel, a Zool 3D perhaps (pun intended).

The White Knight Chronicles Series

Riding off the high of playing through 'Dragon Age 2' I popped in and finally played through the original White Knight Chronicles for PS3, developed by the brains behind a couple of my favourite newer and more imaginative RPGs ('Dark Chronicle' and 'Rogue Galaxy'). I thought it was alright, and certainly not deserving of the bashing its recieved since launch. I'm running around in the secret tunnels under Balandor in White Knight Chronicles 2 at the moment and whilst the sequel isn't much more than 'more of the same' it's still not as bad as some games I've played through. The characters are alright and the story keeps the game rolling along. I'd say the MMO influences are evident and debatable, but overall the game features some good innovations - especially the implementation of 'Power Rangers' style giant mecha ala 'Escaflowne' into the battle system. I know there's a third prelude tale on the PSP too, but am yet to buy it. I'm wondering what others think of the series?

Rise of a Legend

I would recommend making the switch to custom or original graphics sooner rather than later in order to gather more attention and better tweak level design to them. With platformers a lot of the size and scale specific jumps and passageways you design could be totally de-railed if the new sprites don't quite match up, and some jumps may need recalibrating for height and length. Similarly it is more eyecatching and gains more of a fanbase - allowing you to flesh out new characters and faces in your story without people thinking about the personalities or locals associated with them in the original games. There's a ton of people on RMN who will happily help you with this. Something I learned making Shadows Reach is that for later game projects original was always better (I took a real beating for use of FF7 music for example).

That said, I am keen to see more and know how it plays. Is there a background for the world you're making or character info you can share? I'm assuming your four playable characters fit the traditional wizard, warrior, thief and healer brackets and each play to different strengths, but you could be about to surprise us with something we don't see coming :)

Seeking character artist for VN project...! (paid)

I use Sheezy from work - I find Devart annoying when you're in a rush.
