I try to add a bit of light-heartedness to the game via the enemies, equipment, and some spells/abilities. The story's drenched in seriousness and has its fair share of drama, so I didn't want the whole game to be overtaken by that tense/dark and serious tone.
Also, I forgot how much fun I had designing and balancing enemies! Making unique equipment drops for them is enjoyable, too. =O

Only a very DECENT remake?! We'll see if I can push that rating up a notch once it's finished!
I'm certain that this time around, the story's going to be the main attraction as opposed to the gameplay. Or maybe they'll both be received equally? What I DO know is that, after the Mountain Tower, things take a turn for the interesting.
Also, that's exactly the type of reaction I was trying to invoke! Far too often the supposed hero is praised a little TOO much. You're always going to have the loud-mouths who share their (usually unwanted and ignorant) opinions.

Close! The way I say it (and intended for it to be pronounced) is "Ven-eye-chu-rah."
Also, in other news, I'm making fairly decent progress! I've almost finished eventing another cutscene-heavy part of the game, and once I've finished up with that, it's off to preparing the next major dungeon! Woo.

Chronicles of Tsufanubra
They're amazing, aren't they?! He did a fantastic job creating the maps for CoT. They look even better when you experience them for yourself, and the game's later dungeons (when the party arrives on the southern continent/Rorstaria) are truly where the map designs shine!

Bahahahaha. I'd say that there's enough change to allow a play-through of the original Dragon Fantasy without having this game spoiled for you!
I made fairly decent progress today! Completed implementing two major story scenes, and I plan to do at least 2-3 more before hitting the hay. That'll conclude most of the scenes within Ziazu, the game's third major town/city. After that, it's off to tackle another dungeon! Just three to go after that one!

Speaking of Title Screens, I'll be having an actual TITLE SCREEN (hopefully) made out of the promotional artwork when my friend's able to do so. The "Dragon Fantasy" one I'm currently using just... doesn't seem to work anymore =P
In regards to this game being faithful to the original Dragon Fantasy: it will! Everything's (roughly) the same, except that all the game's events will be fleshed out much more than they were originally. Veryl's still the villain, the locations are more or less the same (just with less caves!), and it still features that one dungeon no one can pronounce the name of (Venaitura)! I'll not get into any more detail than that. =B

Chronicles of Tsufanubra
Just went through the game again and fixed a lot of little issues and minor things that I... SOMEHOW missed on the other dozen play-throughs! How does this shit even happen?!
Anyway, you'll be able to see even MORE of that action at work once I've finished eventing the confrontation within the Abandoned Mines. After that, I'm going to send it your way to get your impression on how things have turned out so far. I hope you still have your save file from the last time you played it? =P

Chronicles of Tsufanubra
In hindsight, making a promise like that was a terrible decision, wasn't it? Although I'd fully intended to make that deadline in the past, it quickly became more and more unlikely as the summer sprinted towards me.
A lot of it has to do with my (very limited) attention span, and the fact that on top of work and whatever else may be happening in my life, I've become a lot more active and outgoing than I used to be, so a ton of my free time that I used to have literal buckets of just doesn't exist anymore. Granted, that may change with winter quickly approaching, but I'm not going to make any promises this time around =P
Aside from that, it's a lot more... INVOLVED than what I'm used to! My forte was/is with NES-era inspired fan-games that take FAR less effort than what working on CoT takes, even if at this point I'm doing a relatively minor amount of work. Working with others on a single game has also been a welcome experience that I hadn't had to factor into the equation in the past, but it's also one of my main driving forces! I love what I've seen and received, and every time I look at the project's maps or read a scene from Desertopa I get a motivation boost.
I'm not going to say "no, I don't want or need any help/assistance!" and then complain to myself about never getting anything done, but I also don't want to throw in the towel and say "fine, do it yourselves! I'm outta here!"
If I examine what I'm most interested in regarding game design, it boils down to enemy design and everything involving creating new equipment and things to find and experiment with. That's perhaps why I'm most successful with NES-type games, because usually that's the BULK of what I do there, especially with Heroes of Tsufana, my latest completed game.
