The Most Hardcore Boss Music

These are some of my favourites:

EXEC_HARMONIUS, from Ar Tonelico

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIKqtH1XcP4&feature=related (complete with engrish translation of the lyrics)

This song is actually sung by the heroines during the final battle in an attempt to make the final boss snap out of her murderous resentment towards humanity.

Divine Identity, from Digital Devil Saga 2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTblt_HGzTA

Awe of She, Dizzy's theme in Guilty Gear X, where she is the final boss

Still, that game has all sorts of awesome boss music. I've yet to find a game with more. =O

Such as...this one!

Wicked Melody: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrMPDsKTWEA&fmt=18

That one is pretty damn epic. It actually sounds more final battle-ish than the (also awesome) "final battle against saruin" one, considering that both of them are from the same game (I think).

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

Ar Tonelico II. The battle system is actually pretty fun, especially as the game progresses and you get more gimmicks to play around with. You can activate a fangirl-powered satellite of doom that insanely boosts your magic power. If that isn't cool, what is?

Too bad the game's translation suffers from some rather sloppy grammar and orthography.

Oh, well. Jacqli is awesome, so all is forgiven.

Visions & Voices

It does seem to include bisexuality, at the very least. Unless I'm totally misunderstanding the enthusiasm with which Telia ogles the girl you meet in the church (Lyla?).

If only. It's good...EXCEPT for the atrocious TERRIBLE battle system. Which is why I haven't gotten past the 4 hour mark.

TERRIBLE as in repetitive and boring, or TERRIBLE as in frustratingly hard?

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

Just finished Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia. Decent game, even if the ending was a bit abrupt and short. Nothing imagination can't fix, though. Obviously after the "Fin" screen shows up, and team up, tie Lyner to the bed, and rape him repeatedly until he is cured from his chronic JRPG main character dumbness. Then they all live happily ever after. Long live polygamy!

...Okay, maybe not. Anyway, I'm looking forward to playing the sequel, since reviews seem to suggest it's better than the first one.

RPGS... you've beaten

-Games that I absolutely adored:

Grandia 2 (I loved how the characters talked back to random NPCs, instead of just listening to whatever inane crap they spouted)

Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne (Twice. The first time around I had a lot of trouble, and almost gave up. The second time I breezed through the game and enjoyed it inmensely -beating Lucifer is probably one of the few videogame acomplishments I can brag about-)

Final Fantasy VI

The PC version of Final Fantasy VII (First RPG I ever played. I actually spoiled myself by watching the video cutscenes directly from the CDs before playing the game)

-Games that I greatly enjoyed

Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 (Any game with hermaphrodite characters is automatically awesome)

Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter (I must be some sort of closet masochist)

Final Fantasy VIII

Chrono Trigger

Final Fantasy IX (Really liked how they handled the romance aspect in this one. The ending was very fulfilling)

Disgaea 2 (All of the red herrings and misunderstandings make for a pretty interesting story)

Odin Sphere

Knights of the Old Republic

-Games that I liked quite a bit

Valkyrie Profile

Persona 4

Kingdom Hearts

Seiken Densetsu 3

Disgaea

Golden Sun

Persona 3

Xenosaga 2

The World Ends with You

Fable

Final Fantasy X

Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis

Summon Night: Swordcraft Story

-Games that I enjoyed, but otherwise found to be nothing special

The GBA remake of the first Lunar

Golden Sun: The Lost Age

Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 2

Luminous Arc 2 (If only Roland wasn't such a bland, uninteresting character...)

Kingdom Hearts 2

Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (When the big plot twist was revealed I was glad that I hadn't played the two previous titles, because I suspected I would probably have RAGED if I had)

Final Fantasy Tactics (Too bad the story completely stopped making any sense towards the end. I mean, why is some long dead historical Jesus-like figure suddenly the final boss? Wait, wasn't he supposed to be male? What's with the red leather bondage outfit?)

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

Pokemon (Don't really remember which ones)

Breath of Fire 4

Guild Wars (It's a MMO, but it has a "story" of sorts which can be completed, so I guess it counts)

-"Meh" games

.hack// infection, mutation, outbreak and quarantine (I like abstract, weird-shaped bosses... But these games took it a bit too far)

Final Fantasy X 2 (Though I liked the Sailor Moon-like transformations)

Luminous Arc

Xenogears

Knights of the Old Republic 2

Some RPG for the SNES based on the "Slayers" anime (It was all in japanese. I beat it with the help of a walkthrough. To this day, I still don't know what possesed me to waste my time in such a pointless endeavour)

Guild Wars Factions and Nightfall

Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria (Would probably have been ranked lower if it wasn't for Alicia's delicious thighs)

Diablo 2

Terranigma (Hated the ending)

Brave Soul (Naked chicks weren't enough to rescue it from mediocrity)

-Games I didn't like

Final Fantasy XII (The main antagonist uses some sort of magical crystal to power up his gigantic flying fortress? That sounds like something out of a Sonic game. Also, where is my freakin romance?)

-Games I absolutely and utterly abhored

Legend of Dragoon (I was actually looking forward to an epic final battle against the hero's love interest, since the potential drama and angst that could be derived from such a confrontation would be huge. But... OH GOD THAT WAS SO LAME. Even if the rest of the game hadn't sucked, the ridiculous cop-out at the end would have ruined it for me anyway)

Top Ten Video Game Bosses?

These are some bosses I'm rather fond of:

Giant enemy crab (Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia)

Crush it with an elevator for massive damage!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHTqtqD_Ld4

The fight itself is a pain in the ass, but the method to end it feels so incredibly rewarding that you won't mind... That is, if you actually manage to get to the top of the lighthouse.

Final boss of Digital Devil Saga 2

His impressive appearance and awesome battle music more than make up for any of his shortcomings. Some people complain that he is too easy, but I still found him to be challenging enough for a final battle (he killed me once, that's all I ask from a competent final boss)

Flea (Chrono Trigger)

I guess I have a thing for flamboyant androgynous characters. It's been ages since I played Chrono Trigger, so I don't really remember how the fight actually went, but I bet she (he?) probably inflicted some sort of charm status effect.

Balrog: Cave Story

This guy. Every last fight you have with him.

He's a lunchbox with an attitude, who stomps your ass like rock kirby, and has an AWESOME theme song. He's basically the most memorable character in this game for reasons besides BECAUSE I WOULD HIT IT.

A lunchbox? I always thought he was a toaster... Man, I suddenly have the urge to play through Cave Story again, despite how much I sucked at it.

Why, hello there.

After lurking for a while I decided to register. Then I kept lurking. Figured it was about time I introduced myself, before anyone starts suspecting I'm some sort of forum bot.

English is not my first language (I'm from Spain), but I believe I have a rather firm grasp on it (I'd be in trouble if I didn't, since I'm doing a degree in translation and interpretation, with English as my main language of choice). You'll have to forgive me for the occasional grammatical atrocity.

Academic background aside (not that you care about it anyway), I'm currently making a game in RPG Maker XP. I'd say chances it won't suck too much are moderate. I have actually completed two games before, which were pretty successful among the Spanish-speaking rpgmaker community despite their flagrant exposition flaws (walls of text were plentiful) and somewhat pretentious storylines (typical church-bashing/religion is evil mishmash).

A demo of my current project (in English, of course) will probably be available shortly. I'm aware of the upcoming changes RMN3 will bring, so don't worry, I won't freak out when I see the Discussion and Releases forum is no longer there.

That's about it. I hope we will get along ;)
