Suggestive Content & Themes

author=kory_toombs
The only rule on adult content I can find is that screenshots cannot contain pornographic material.

There's also a rule called "Bad Content Rule." So if your game looks distasteful they can reserve the right to deny it.

Based on that, I would say you can have the themes you discussed provided they are done tastefully.

Thank you. Beyond the site rules I'm interested to know how the community at large generally feels about this type of content.

Suggestive Content & Themes

This is an inquiry into RMN's boundaries on adult themes, such as drug and alcohol use and voilence.

The game I'm developing involves drug and alcohol use as central game mechanics, much like how healing/booster items work in many RPG's. The D&A use isn't depicted. The items are simply used from the menu or in battle, but they have names like methamphetamine and fentanyl. I also have a heavy use of sugar as a main diet, such as energy drinks, which is just as harmful and more addictive than many drugs, but would never be questioned.

I guess the question is, how does the community feel about it?

On a similar note, I see a lot of horror games on here so I assume there is a high tolerance for violence. Is there a point where the psychology can be too real? I'm not talking about on screen representations, but an attempt to make the player feel disgusted by something extreme like cannibalism or rape through suggestion. Example; sounds of screaming and torture while moving through a known cannibal base.

These are elements portrayed in popular games like Dragon Age and Fable, but where's the line drawn in RMN? Is it fair game if the proper warnings are applied up front, is the game auto-banned or are players excited for this type of content?

Also, before anyone thinks I'm a psycho. My game also explores the good nature of people, but to portray the world realistically things like cannibalism and rape would need to be at least mentionable. The entire civilization is formed of criminals.

The pixel style on those leaves are so counter intuitive yet work so damn well. Great creativity!

Darren's Free Music For Your Projects!

Hey Darren, there is some great stuff here! I'll definitely be utilizing this treasure trove for my project! Thank you for this!

Just an FYI, your website is formatted to be a specific width which isn't compatable with all screen sizes. On my laptop a chunk of your website is off screen on thr left side and can't be scrolled too.

@orange, thank you for the feedback. You've really nailed the atmosphere there. Professional quality, hands down.

Really digging Punkitt's and Darken's styles.

Just made this as the first of many battle backgrounds. Saw a similar BG perspective on another game and loved the concept.

Just made some changes to my menu and added a new scrolling background with some effects instead of the old former bg.

Not sure if it looks better as a scrolling or static image yet.

Really digging the background and I concur on the blinking. Looks great. The vitals are a distraction though. I actually tried adding something like that to my first version of my menu basically as a space filler, and it didn't work for me either.

This is a preview of some of the outfits and armors which will be obtainable in my yet undisclosed project. Almost all of these have their walking graphics finished. Though this isn't a complete set of all obtainable attire, I still have 8 more which require these graphics to be made in addition to the walk around graphics. That's what I'm working on!

50 Days of Representation

I had what I think is a great idea for this competition. Seeing as how I'm a lone wolf and have a lot going on irl, I'm going to step out of this one. It's difficult enough to find time to work on my main project as it is. Also, my main project allows the protagonist to dress in drag, clown makeup, as a furry, and has a same sex romance option. So, kind of already doing this on a more long term scale.

Here's what I plan to do (posted on the Discord channel before):

The game would be focused on dialogues. You would play as myself, an essay writer. My next book will be about wiccans, a group of "sorcerers of modern times". I sent a letter to a wicca female member who's living with her group in an isolated forest in Wales. My trip there will make me get some ideas for my essay.

I'm just unsure on the main style:
- A walking simulator with NPCs introducing the wiccan culture to you? (Already did a walking simulator for Valentiny. Satisfying for the visuals, but it was rather bland after all...)
- An horror game with crazy fanatics? (That would be fun, but horror games are not my cup of tea)

Prosecution for belief comes to mind. This could center around a solitary group being ostracized by a group who doesn't understand them. I always like the idea of personifying the protagonist as faulty but essentially good, then having them lose despite their best effort. This makes the player feel the loss. Since the point is to represent a minority, what better way than to make the player feel for them.
