FINAL FANTASY: RECORD KEEPER

author=LockeZ
I took Sentinel Grimoire as my roaming warrior, and used it to mitigate the second Gigaflare and the second Petaflare, both of which are unavoidable unless you have STUPIDLY high damage. I still wouldn't have survived without adding Rikku's +res buff on top of that.

Yeah, I assume the fight was designed for you to defend those two megaflares, because I needed a high damage, multi-hitting RW to take out the second petaflare. In hindsight, I probably could've used Tifa and her Water Kick to knock down the megaflares, replacing Cloud who was probably my least necessary member. You definitely need either a multi-hitting limit break or a hasted party to take it out, in addition to pretty high damage, otherwise it seems impossible.

I think it's crazy that you use mythril for retries. The game kind of has a snowballing effect, where the stronger you are the easier it is to clear content and get even stronger. I think the growth curve is stunted more by missing relic draws than by missing a few major orbs and a special-case accessory.

did you mean lifesiphon on tyro, not wrath?
I meant Wrath, because in my mind your other strong weapon was going to be tied up by Steiner. I wouldn't underestimate Wrath+Ace Striker--it's an overlooked ability and that combination generates over half of a bar (270 soul meter). If you give Tyro a good weapon then Lifesiphon is a go, but if you go that route then I wouldn't have him target the retaliator ever. To compare, Lifesiphon + Ace Striker is 225 soul meter.

I remembered you have Lulu's fire limit break. Is that a group attack? Would help clear out the creepers even if you use an off-record rod.

Definitely don't bring any abilities that won't make it through the whole fight, though. Bahamut has some serious HP. I almost ran out of Curaja, even.

Adel was really easy. Mastered her with the following party:

I actually wanted to bring Luneth and also an Advance RW here because the -DEF doesn't matter, but I felt like bringing Irvine and I didn't want to reshuffle my RW list, so Eiko's Emerald Light allowed me to heal up really quickly after Ultima and also keep Hastega active for the entire fight.

Tried something different and used all +RES accessories. Not sure how much of a difference it made, but I was hitting hard enough between Soul Eater, Armor Breakdown, and Full Break. Speaking of the latter, I'm still a good 8 Major Ice Orbs short of R2.

Steiner was supposed to reflect spells but Adel only used Drain twice and never used Holy or Flare, choosing to use group targeted magic almost every round. Maybe I should've swapped Steiner for Luneth, but that was probably just chance.

Good rewards. I needed power and non-elemental orbs, afterall.

Sounds like you should use an Advance+Retaliate setup with Sephiroth. Bring Haste too, maybe on Celes because she can Double Cut and also start using Magic Shield about halfway through... though, given how many turns keeping Haste up will consume, it may be better to give her Double Hit RM and then off-heal with Curaga or Renewing Cure. Give Sephiroth his OWA, Retaliate, Flame Blossom, and Heroic Stance. Tyro with Wrath to make sure he has enough meter for the next SG before he starts hitting the retaliator. Somebody with Boost. Group heal and shellga covered by Vanille. Possibly consider a knight with Lure Magic and Reflect to counteract Dark and Flare after the midpoint--Steiner can do this while Drain Striking to heal himself a bit with a 5+ Gold Sword which is as strong as a natural 5. Try to make sure the creepers are dead before the megaflare charge begins so that Retaliate will target it. With Haste, retaliate -should- be able to take it out in three turns.

I just finished the 99 dungeon for Laguna, meaning I will probably do the bonus battles right before bed.

For the upcoming FF9 event, I will probably skip the relics unless I have trouble with the ultimate... These events are clustered together more than I expected, plus I'll need 25 mythril for an Abyss banner, so it'll be pretty tight for me to meet my initial projection. This FFRK quiz thing they're doing should help me out, though.

FINAL FANTASY: RECORD KEEPER

Reddit is covered in Ultimate Bahamut Sin topics. Apparently people are having a hard time beating him, and this explains why my Stoneskin RW has been getting summoned a lot lately. I still think Ultimate Exdeath was the hardest, because at least Bahamut is fairly predictable. Something I don't see people talking about is just letting the creepers live. The first batch aren't that strong, so if you're only looking to win then just focus fire Bahamut.

Got a new 2-star from daily draw: Greatsword (FF6)

FINAL FANTASY: RECORD KEEPER

I keep eyeballing the second FF9 banner for elusive magic weapons (though, I've got sage weapons in a few records now, which is good).

What are you thinking about right now?

Stockton, motherfucker.

FINAL FANTASY: RECORD KEEPER

Return of the three stage boss rush, meaning I have to wait like thirty minutes to do the ultimate.

This is the party I mastered Ultimate Bahamut Sin with:

Party ended up different than I had initially planned. I decided that Dragon Force wasn't going to be that useful against this boss because the creepers attack in volume rather than slower, bigger hits. Because I wasn't bringing Aeris, I decided to make Yuna my summoner because she's Lv80 and because Hymn of the Fayth is pretty great. And since I wasn't bringing Dragon Force, I obviously wanted Y'shtola for Stoneskin.

A Hastega is probably a good idea here, but mine is stuck on Sazh who doesn't have any weapons for FF7, and I brought a damage RW to help burst down Bahamut's megaflare singularities. The second and fourth megaflares only have a three turn charge which is actually not very much time at all, which is a part of the reason I recommended a Hastega. In fact, I didn't cast my first RW in time and got hit by the second Gigaflare, which required a Hymn of the Fayth to counteract even though I had all of my defensive buffs up. The megaflare singularities prevent you from targeting Bahamut, meaning it's also a bit of a pain to make sure your Breakdowns stay active as well.

Killing creepers was no problem. Yuna's Ifrit hit them for like 9400 damage, Blade Blitz for 7000-ish when Soul Eater was active, and Barret's grenade limit break hits for 10k, which was available on all but the first creeper wave because you get hit so often in this fight. Stoneskin was cast right at the start and I don't think I ever had any gaps in it for the same reason. Hymn of the Fayth also charged up really quickly because exploiting the creepers' fire vulnerability generates more soul meter. Cloud used Protectga from his Power Sash, and then refreshed it again after the second Gigaflare. I never single targeted the creepers and still killed all eight before Bahamut went down, so if you bring enough group damage you'll be covered.

Anyway, lots of damage in general. A group cure is a good idea. Mitigation is a good idea. My Yuna ran out of 9 summon charges right after the final Petaflare, so unless you burn Bahamut faster than me then you should probably only bring highly honed summons, if at all. There's a lot of HP to knock out, since each megaflare singularity has about 27k HP while Bahamut's HP isn't much different than any other ultimate boss so far. Craze has a good katana for Sephiroth, so that new fire blossom ability should hit really hard... break a few major orbs to hone it up if you can spare them.

Speaking of orbs, I think I have enough to hone R2 Full Break now... I need to check, but I was getting pretty close last time I looked.

Looking forward to being able to use Sazh optimally for the next ultimate, because I've got two guns and a dagger he can potentially use.

HA! That might have been me! Was the owner of said RW named "Spoony" by chance? I just stumbled upon this board looking for someone discussing an Overdrive/HotE stack result, and lo and behold, I find your message. I switched from HotE to FO a few days ago. Hope this turns out to be true. Would just be funny to inadvertently come across someone talking about me indirectly like this.

I just created an account here solely to ask you about this.

Pretty sure it was you, but I can't verify because it appears you've already been bumped from my followers, unless you changed your name (I get 5-20 followers per day). I try to keep my friends list at around 30 and it had swollen up to about 42, so it was time to purge the list. This was actually really easy this time, because I only had to remove all of the Fenrir Overdrives (I kept two of them). It seems like half of my friends list had been hoarding mythril in preparation for this banner. I only keep 1-3 of each type of RW I'm interested in, because I hate seeing a full hand of the same thing when my deck gets shuffled for a bonus battle.

I liked having HotE because I've usually got my defensive buffs covered so having a group +Attack buff that also stacks with my Soul Eater (Drunk Cecil's group +Attack buff) is a good fit. But, yeah, I can't do that anymore and I never see new HotE's show up in the three random RW slots. Hopefully I'll see new ones between the upcoming FF2 and slightly less upcoming FF12 banners.

Looks like I might not bring Tifa to Ultimate Bahamut Sin afterall. I assumed she was the MC2 candidate for this event, but apparently there isn't one. Instead, there was an empty MC2 that they just replaced with growth eggs because we don't have that feature yet. Lame. I'll probably bring Bartz, Locke, or Edgar, but I don't know yet... she can be replaced by anybody who can use swords or fists, which is a lot of dudes, but I have AoE limit breaks for those three to help kill the creepers. Or I'll bring Y'shtola as healer and make Aeris a pure summoner, but using both Stoneskin and Dragon Force here seems like overkill.

FINAL FANTASY: RECORD KEEPER

I did the elites yesterday. Hopefully there's something interesting this week, because if you paid attention to the announcement then you'll see that the bonus battles are still several days away.

I've fallen way behind on Ice and especially Non-Elemental orbs because I honed Valefor and Maduin to R4, and also honed Flare up to R3. Additionally, I haven't been hitting my daily much for those because of event and orbfest timing. Unless some new 5-star summon is released at some point, I'll probably end up crafting Odin because I have excess Dark Orbs and not enough Non-Elemental for Bahamut, but I think both are a ways off for me. Obviously I'm always behind on Black Power--especially Power--but so is everybody else, so that's normal.

If Sentinel's Guard appears on one of the SSB banners, then there's a good chance that'll be the one I pull on so long as the other items on it are also useful for me. You have no idea how much I envy your SG. Charging up a Stoneskin can be pretty dangerous when Y'shtola is also my primary healer, since there have been so many events where a boss drops a fat nuke immediately after Ultimate Dispel. As long as I have a synergized mage weapon, I'm able to bring Yuna as a nuker and still have a fat group heal to cover that problem, but it's not worth bringing her if her summons are only going to do 5k or less damage. Plus, Tyro is such a great gap filler that I use him pretty often even without a great limit break, having SG would make it even easier to bring him along.

As bad as Tyro's stats are, when he's under the effects of Drunk Cecil's Boostga he's over the Attack soft cap anyway, and if he's healing with Curaja he doesn't need vast amounts of Mind. Tyro has the stat that matters most, though, and that's HP. Once you've got your mitigation up, HP scales way better than Defense/Resist, not that his defensive stats are much worse than your usual support or mage anyway.

Actually, I just read on reddit that the Abyss dungeons all have a 25-mythril banner that has relics for every synergized character, which always includes Tyro. This means that every Abyss banner, so far, has included Sentinel Grimoire, so I'll probably skip that SSB banner unless it has doper items on it than the others.
