I know I said this, a few months ago, but please give a special thank to anyon175 when you have the chance.

I’ve added and converted anyon175’s games to the master list:

These games were originally a selection of rpgmaker games from the community that Top Games Especial a Brazil Video Game Magazine Publication had selected and burned onto disc to go along with their monthly magazine - Vash of CentroRPG was fortunate enough to be able to upload these games their site along with pictures, which I've added to the mainlist as well.

Note: you will need Harmony.DLL and RMk2 RTP and RM2k3 RTP in order to play these games. (I plan on eventually converting these games, to standalone rpgmaker games and adding them to the archive as well, so people can just play them.)

On that note, I’ve also added the list of Brazillian rpgmaker communities that anyon175 had kindly mentioned, previously to the Game’s List. Be sure to check those out as well. I never get tried of seeing new rpgmaker communities outside of RMN, so I just want to thank you again anyon175 for sharing this with us, this really is how communities grow. ❤

I guess, the easiest thing to do right now would be to sort through the discs for rpgmaker games.(…I’m actually very curious about the other games as well, but whatever is easier for you to upload right now, anyon175):

RM2000/RM2003 games will usually have a RPG_RT.exe and RPG_RT.ini file

To distinguish between the two engines, as Liberty previously mentioned:

RM2000 games will have Battle/System folders available

Whereas RM2003 games have Battle 2/BattleCharset/BattleWeapon/System 2 folders available.

(EDIT: there’s probably more rpgmaker games made with different engines on these discs, like RM95 and RMXP - but hopefully someone could tell us what’s the difference between these engines as well, as I’m not too familiar with them. But I’ll also add this info to the first page.)

Going forward, I will be converting all the games from the masterlist into standalone rpgmaker games for the torrent, with the (gamename)(author)(engine)format, but as stated previously I won’t be adding more detailed descriptions to the master list, (if I do, it’ll be very brief) because revising, editing and managing this thread through RMN’s bbcode, just takes way too much time, it's just way too cumbersome to use.

Most of that effort will be going towards creating this torrent, so that more people can contribute and preserve this archive, rather than just one person, preserving and distributing all these games alone. Once it's in this format, that's when we'll start thinking about creating more detailed descriptions for each game and how to sort through them.

I'll be also making small changes to the first page, adding more instructions on how to create lists of yours games, convert them to stand alone games etc.

...Currently I'm stuck on trying to convert Dooms 5 into a standalone playable format.(I can seem to get it to work on my laptop running windowsXP with RM2003RTP installed, but I can't seem to get it work on windows 7 as a standalone game, but rest assured I'll upload it once it's fixed)

I’m gonna keep my responses to a minimum, until I can finish the torrent and other things I’ve mentioned above, but rest assured, I am listening to your feedback and I really do appreciate what you guys have to say.

Alright. Here are two things that I decided to upload at the moment.
Dooms 4 - Voice Acting
Dooms 5 - Endless - Demo - NOT

EDIT: I got Dooms 5 to work! - I just placed rmtools.exe in the wrong folder, so it didn't import the RTP files correctly - will upload that along with dooms 4, dooms 4 w/ the voice pack and instructions for rmtools.exe.

As for Dooms 4 - Voice Acting. It seems to be a 200mb patch for Dooms 4:

How to apply the patch: Do not, I repeat DO NOT overwrite your original Dooms 4 copy with this patch!!! I did not add any of the content from the original version to save disc space, so overwriting Dooms 4 copy will make the game corrupt!! Rather, go to a folder like "Sounds" and exact its contents to the Dooms 4 directory. Only over write maps and such general things. Make sure there doesn't appear a sub directory like "Dooms4 -> Sounds" under the sounds. (If that happens, go into the folder and cut the contents to the main sounds root)Repeat progress with "battle", "facesets", "music", and "pictures" and you're good to go.

So I'm going to convert Dooms 4 to a standalone rpgmaker game. Then I'll copy it and add the voice patch, so you'll have two versions:

Dooms 4 - End Game (51MB)
Dooms 4 - End Game: Voiced Edition (200MB)(temporary, will add to torrent)

Dooms 5 - Demo (Fixed)(will add this to main shortly, might need someone to play it past the intro...)

...I want to nip this in the butt before it dissolves into another argument over copyright infringement - Because it’s been said to death here on RMN.

I want to make this clear: I’m all for fan games, I’m all for preserving them – in fact I strongly encourage their creation:

The Beatles did Elvis covers songs in Hamburg, throughout their career before becoming the Beatles.

Todd McFarlane drew Spider-Man and even began his own line, Spider-Man #1 before leaving Marvel with Jim Lee to form Image Comics and create Spawn.

Naughty Dog built a replica of Crescent Island from Diddy Kong Racing, not only because Diddy Kong Racing was considered a fun game, but also in order to see if a racecourse of the same scale and scope was possible on the Playstation.

There is a certain value to be found in studying and working from a great creative work. I don’t think it’s right to discourage anyone from doing that.

But performing a cover song, working for Marvel Comics and copying an entire level from an N64 game for testing purposes, become entirely different things, once their distributed and shared over the internet.

So if you are going to make a fan game, do so at your own discretion.

...I want to make this clear, because it's been said so many times here on RMN and I really I want this to be the last thing that’s said about the ethics of copyright infringement on this particular thread – Our focus here is on preservation.

Like, I’m still going to mention DMCA dings, in case something gets taken down or I have to switch servers. But if you really want to talk about the ethics of copyright infringement, I kindly ask you to please ❤ talk about that in a different thread.

I’d like to contribute more to this:

The only two I can think of right now, is similar to JosephSeraph’s prototype

The 3D animated Dungeons in Phantasy Star 1 for the Master System:

I thought it was interesting how, by adding a small bit of animation, they gave the illusion of movement and turning inside the dungeons. Having the monsters appear randomly in the field of the dungeon (and attack the player @6:50) sort of amplified this effect as well – like it was very simple, but it went a long way to help make the world a bit more immersive to the player.

The other one I can think of is something like Dragon Quest 1 or 5 where instead of transitioning to a battle,
the battle takes place on top of the field map.

(notice how in the battle, even the clouds move, in the battle background)

There’s a few more ideas I’d like to try, that I can’t remember at the moment.

But the last one I wanted to include, something I wanted to do years ago, was to try and implement these scenes from YS3 into rpgmaker2003. Being able to post pictures behind the hero sprite, finally makes this possible, so I’d like to return to this at some point. (Thanks Cherry ❤)

If you guys can think of any others, post them, I love hearing what you guys come up with.
Like I'll admit, most of what I mentioned are just variations of what Darken has already mentioned earlier
in this thread, but it's still interesting to see them work out in practice.

...There's like a whole bunch of ideas, I came across throughout the years, but I just can't remember them at the moment.

If Neon Lighting Force is going to be considered for misao nominations, it should win on it's own merits, while people are fully aware of what this game actually is before voting. Because everyone here works very hard on their games.

I do not think it would be fair for a game to win the Best Graphics & Artwork when those graphics from said game, were made by an entirely different development team from 1996.

...But I do believe there is a considerable amount of skill and effort involved when porting an already existing creative work, into an entirely new and different engine and this should be awarded accordingly.

(I'm just pointing this out because Denji Makai is a pretty obscure beat-em-up game and those who aren't aware of it, should be, when voting on Neon Lighting Force for the Misaos)

Congrats Darken!

This was a huge collaboration (5-man team) for what is effectively a simple game, I've mainly served as an Art Director and Level Designer. It's been a lot of work putting this game together and there are a lot of things I wish got into the final build. But a lot of the level design I wanted to express in the extent of the game is largely intact. I'm happy with the game but the process has been exhausting. I'll probably do a post mortem on the game some day to air my thoughts completely, but that'll have to wait.

Like, getting your game greenlight on steam, and then finally being able to actually finish it - this may not seem like much to the uninitiated, but to those not very familiar with the process, this was probably a huge undertaking.

So, it'll be really interesting to hear what your are thoughts on this - especially what the day to day experiences were like, during game development, especially when you're working on a team.

GW's social environment was a filter that tried to make people better versions of themselves by inciting self-reflection - i know that i personally benefited from it and was made to re-examine to some degree what my adolescent self thought was good, or cool, or funny, or high-quality rpgmaking

maybe it didn't always do that in a productive way, and maybe in some cases the humor got out of hand and the message was lost in the mix. but the consequences of not having what GW had carry far more troubling implications than the minor pitfalls involved in actually asking people to take a look at themselves

I totally agree with this - but not to the extent that GamingW would make most newer, more outside members feel, who were struggling to become more involved with the community.

Like, people come from all different walks of life - there's nothing we can do to change that…They will not have the same opportunities as you or I have had, or be as consciously aware of social situations either - that's just how life is.

To assume otherwise is detrimental to fostering a creative community of any kind. Because as a community, we need to be encouraging, we need to be welcoming and we need to be accepting of these differences in order for our community to grow.

Whatever topic was made in the past, may not be appropriate for an rpgmaker site - but you need to have a sense of dignity and humility towards dealing with these sort of situations - Because people should ultimately feel welcome in our community, first and foremost, before any sort of change or healthy growth can take place.

Because it's through this diversity, it's through these personal conflicts and through these differences of opinions, that communities can start to actually grow and change can actually take place.

I wholeheartedly agree with this as well. It's actually the one thing I miss the most about GamingWorld - when I first came to GamingW, it was the only rpgmaker site, that I had come across, in my mind, that was the most similar to Newgrounds, because Newgrounds allows for constructive criticism - it's what the site is essentially built off of:

1)Creators submit content,
2)the community votes on it.
3)Community members are awarded with more voting power.
4)The creator is awarded with a rating and constructive criticism, that gives them the feedback, the motivation and the courage that they need to pursue more creative endeavours.

It's very immediate and easy to use for the average user.

I've rotated between various rpgmaker sites while GamingW was in decline in hopes of finding this sort of site again. I have not found this site, but I have fortunately found it in other places - (which I won't get into now because it's another matter entirely)

…But either way, there's a flipside to seeking out this sort of constructive criticism as well - I'm not going to get too into this, because again. it's been said to death here on RMN numerous times, more than I can count:

If you're too harsh in your criticism, the individual seeking feedback will eventually burn out,

But if you're too lenient in your criticism they will no longer have the motivation in order to improve.

The trick is trying to find a balance between these two extremes: Saying just enough that needs to be said to the individuals who are truly interested in improving their craft, in order to encourage self-development and personal growth - without burning them out.

The rest is up to them.

(EDIT: TFT, Magi, Ciel, Nightblade - I know you guys don't frequent RMN as much as you use to, but I really appreciate the fact that you guys took the time to contribute your thoughts to this thread, especially Ciel's concise look on what GamingW was like back then - It really means a lot, It means the world.
