Dumb Notes:
-don't write your characters around the story:
i.e. character sees dragon on mountain.
-write the story around your characters:
i.e. character sees dragon, seeing dragon changes character.
-let emotion drive the scene. i.e. Will they make it out of this alive?
-let anger drive the action. i.e. "Are you crazy? I'm not picking that up!"

And the Winner is...
I know some people may not agree with me about this...(so prepare for a hyperbolic statement)
…But I think Lakira Legend is a testament to how RMN works as a community. It’s a lot like what kentona described in his article (I also think this article is a must read for anyone new to RMN, staff, please sticky it somewhere.)
Because RMN doesn’t have a rating system, you're going get situations like Lakira Legends winning the misaos, a game like Liberty described, something that’s very rough around the edges, which I absolutely 100% agree with, but also a game that’s made by a genuinely likable person.
I think this is kind of an important lesson to learn and remember, especially when you're trying to sell your game to a much wider audience – People often think making a good game is enough, or being a likable person is enough, no it’s not – It’s both.
Similarly, in the world of work, people aren’t just looking for someone whose relatable or reliable, but someone who can get the job done and is able to work well with others as well - if nothing else, I think this is the most important thing to take away from this year’s 2017 misaos awards - that you can’t just make a good game, and expect to succeed, but you also have to kind of be a likable person too, someone who connects well with the community in order to get the word out.
The fact is, Lakira Legends won in an era where Rpgmaker games are more associated with yume nikki clones, than anything else - It shows that, not only that there's still demand for these types of oldschool classic pre-gamingw rpgmaker games, but also that, these are games made by people who are involved within our community:
KoopaKush was the only dude who kept leaving positive comments, on the fan trailers I made. I’m pretty sure he's been doing these same sort of things all over RMN, for the years - When Lakria Legends was finally completed and released, it shot up to the top spot of the buzz list and stayed there for a couple of months.
But it wasn’t just because it was a good game - that’s only part of it – it’s because it’s a sign of Koopa Kush’s involvement within RMN.
In that aspect, I can’t think of a better person whose more deserving of this award, than KoopaKush.
Congrats KoopaKush! You deserve this!

The Rare/Obscure RM Games Request Topic
author=Starmage
Hello! It seems that the link for Anastacia is broken. :(
I've always wanted to play it again. I can remember the times when I was still not into RPG-making and was just someone who downloaded, played and collected games of other users from a certain RPG site before (I forgot the name, it had revolution something in it.) Anastacia the creepy game was one of the most memorable I had. xD Does someone still have a working link for it? Thanks so much!! Would love some nostalgia.
Hi starmage, ❤
Yeah, we’re struggling to recover games like Anastasia~ This isn’t the way things are suppose to be with the new rpgmaker archive thread.
You might be able to help me out with something:
Since you’re more familiar with Anastasia and have actually played this game, could you tell me if, the Anastasia requested here and requested here are the same game?
Like, I just wanna make sure there’s only one Antastasia to help narrow down the search.
But yes, thank you for posting, starmage.
I’ll list this as a new request.

I almost forgot ... I'm the same Kaine! XDDD
I knew you looked familiar!! ❤ XDDDDD LOL! Thanks man!
But yeah man! Kaine's a miracle worker! ❤ He's got like a bag full of really cool rpgmaker tools!
author=Preki
As of the RM version... well, I want to get it ever since 2k3 got finally officialy released, but I'd rather have non-Steam version (if there's one), and I'd kill for a boxed collector release :P heheh.
I was looking into this for ya, so I bought the rpgmakerweb version today, just to see if you could by more than one version to gift to people.
I'll have to look into it again to make sure, but unfortunately it seems a bit of a headache in terms of technical support.
-When you buy rpgmaker2003 from rpgakerweb, you need to create an account with your email address, so you can purchase rpgmaker2003.
-After you purchase rpgmaker2003, your order number is your product code.
Once you download rpgmaker2003 from rpgmakerweb:
You need to use the email that you used to purchase rpgmaker2003 and the order number/product code in order to lift the 20 day time trial
Unfortunately, when you go to activate it online, it doesn't seem to work at the moment, so you have to contact customer support so they can give you the code, so you can activate it offline. (I'm waiting to hear back from rpgmakerweb at the moment)
But ya man, I'll keep my eyes and ears peeled on this. I'd really like to start giving out purchased copies of rpgmaker2003 as gifts to some of you guys, cause it's really exciting to see new people, starting to use rpgmaker2003 again. There are some really cool new features in the official rpgmaker2003 now that's worth checking out too.
So yeah, I'll keep ya posted.
Thanks again for posting the tutorial/fix kaine!
Preki, let us know if you were able to get it to work.❤
[RM2K3] Keeping equipment after class change.
Hi Preki,❤
If you can't find an answer here, you should also check out rpgmakerweb.com's rpgmaker2003 tech support forum
kaine uploaded this really great character formation tutorial - where only a specific character can get into a club if they're the designated party leader; he did this through variables.
He may have an idea of how to retain armor on characters, when they switch classes in rpgmaker2003
The furthest I've gotten with this, is creating a not-so-great Final Fantasy "jump" tutorial:
where the character changes classes/unequips their armor in order to jump, and then reverts classes/reequips their current armor as they land.
But I kind of ran into the same problem you did, as I couldn't figure out how to record their current armor to a variable, in order for them to automatically reequip their current armor, once they switched back.

[RM2K3] Running RPG_RT.exe on Linux (Wine)
author=Allen Hunter
I have more of an issue with the player, technically the file RPG_RT.exe. It currently doesn't give me any display errors when expanded, but the DBS is so ridiculously laggy, and at random intervals. It takes almost four seconds to process an attack, and the transition into battle also takes a while. I've tested with a vanilla project, and the DBS loaded just fine. For some reason, Wine is not able to handle a game made with a near-two-decade-old program. Is there any reason why it's lagging on my part? I actually did a quick vanilla Windows 7 test, and things were just fine. I'm just not sure where to look or what to configure, since information on getting any RPG Maker to run smoothly on non-Windows OS installations is quite scarce.
Hi Allen Hunter ❤,
Unfortunately, I'm not going to be much help, but I just want to say I'm also looking for a solution to this problem as well. As I'm currently trying to port certain games like Huntress of the Hollow(steam rpgmaker2003) and Phantom Legacy (Advocate's rpgmaker2003) to Mac platforms.
Getting proper speed through Wineskin seems like it's always going to be an issue with rpgmaker2000/2003 games. Currently, I can get these games to run smoothly on the field map, but stuff such as sound effects, battles and teleporting to other areas, lag quite a bit - it's good but not as good as it is running on Windows as you similarly mentioned.
I'm also waiting to hear back from "JammedGears" a small team that specializes in porting freeware rpgmaker2000/2003 games for the Mac, who may have a couple of solutions to these problems, as well.
"matthew" one of the co-creators of One Shot, who was working on rpghub with plans to eventually bring this application to linux as well, but has unfortunately been discontinued...
Another place to ask would be rpgmakerweb's technical support forum, it may not be the best place to ask this question, but there's usually more people involved there, trying to solve compatibility issues.
...I apologize for not being much help, as most of these suggestions involving mac platforms, but I wanted to say I'm also looking for a solution to this problem as well. Like, I'm pretty sure the solution is out there...it's just not "here", yet.
Hopefully someone more experienced will eventually chime with a solution to this problem as well.
If not, I'll keep you posted, and keep my eyes and ears peeled for ya. ❤
Does anyone remember GamingGroundZero? (Remembering GamingGroundZero)

After I left the RPG Maker stuff to GGZ I joined the staff of Graal Online and made GFX for their upcoming game Graal Kingdoms. Graal was like a Zelda style game, looked like Zelda on Super Nintendo alot.
(I just googled now and Graal can still be played it seems, thats pretty amazing: https://www.graalonline.com)
Side note: I totally remember graalonline! Never had a chance to play it, but i'll probably try it out now.
Graalonline was featured on fhm100's 100 greatest online games(NSFW):
They had some really cool games on there, including Bust-A-Move entirely done in flash
and this really cool 4 player online 3D Tron Game, done entirely through shockwaveflash and javascript
(you'll need shockwave and a non-chrome browser to play it, but this was really impressive back in the day!)

I will be moving this spring and before packing I will go thru all of my never-use boxes. If I find the old HDDs somewhere I will have a look and tell you if all those old websites and the HUGE amount of resources(art, sprites, music, sounds etc) is still alive.
If you come across a lot of stuff meD, don’t worry about uploading individual files one-at-a-time. I’ll understand! If you don’t have a lot of time and just want to throw whatever you find, into a folder/winrar and upload it to googledrive, with a brief text file explaining what’s there – that’s okay too! – we’ll take care of the rest. ❤ I'm eternally grateful that you're doing this, so thank you!❤

Edit: Another piece of the puzzle is that at the very end I had a website called MadHouse. I changed my alias to Jolt or Joltbolt, and only posted my own original RPG Maker gfx. So if you ever come across some gfx tagged Jolt/MadHouse/mED/RPG Underground, I would love to have a look :)
Will do! I will keep my eyes peeled for any resources you made under Jolt/Joltbolt/MadHouse/meD/RPG Underground as well!
author=Darken
Yeah I'd really like to see the GGZ splash pages as they were if possible. First I remember was the 3 gundam looking suits in a blue hue background sounds similar to the "military style" mED mentioned. Next one I remember was some squall looking guy facing to the side and an elf chick facing forward, kind of beige and brownish background, probably what Rouge is talking about. I remember getting most of my rips and resources from GGZ especially the custom made stuff by the pelican(?) guy who did the really tall looking charsets.
Yes! Thank you for remembering this Darken! ❤
Yeah, at some point I’d like for, Illustrious, Qheretic and Wishmoo, pretty much everyone and anyone involved with the creation of GGZ, to come here and give their side of the story if possible. Like, it’s very easy to make gross generalizations about what happened over on GGZ and have that be the end of it - but that's not fair to GGZ - and unfortunately, this was a site I never got a chance to be apart of - so I want to hear the story from the creators of GGZ themselves too and learn everything I can. Like, I really want to hear both sides of the story if possible and as much as possible.
Like, whatever happened in the past may never be easy to talk about. But at the same time, those guys were my heroes, I want to hear the story, in its entirety and as accurately possible. Unlike rpgmaker communities of the past, I pass no judgment; all I have is compassion for you guys. Everyone deserves to have their story be told here.
But yeah, thanks for letting me know Darken. I’ll add “Forever Across Dreams” and “Angels of Exodus” to the archive as well. If you guys know of any other rpgmaker games that were significant to GGZ, let me know!
Does anyone remember GamingGroundZero? (Remembering GamingGroundZero)
Hi mED!!
thank you so much for this information! ❤
GamingGroundZero, man, you guys were kind of what got me into rpgmaker.
I remember GamingGroundZero, the site, I think, had a splash page at one point, with a beige background, and black and white original concept art on top of it as a logo. It blew me away seeing this stuff as a kid, cause it looked a lot like the concept art you'd see in Final Fantasy, Lunar and a lot of popular JRPGs back in the day. You mentioned original content art, was this your work? cause it was incredible! I’ve been looking for this artwork for awhile.
The way you guys presented GamingGroundZero to the world, made it very exciting and very appealing to work with rpgmaker2000.
If you have any artwork or files or games, pretty much anything you were able to manage from the site. Please feel free to share it with us here on the forums!
Gaminggroundzero kind of laid the groundwork for a lot of rpgmaker sites back then, you guys kind of figured out a lot of stuff involving rpgmaker2000 that we are still using today. To not have GamingGroundZero or RPGUnderground around anymore is really daunting. It’s like starting from scratch all over again for a lot of us, especially since rpgmaker2000 and rpgmaker2003 are now officially available in english on steam, so there's a lot of new rpgmakers coming into the mix as well - like bleet, hogwash and rindre, and they're doing some pretty crazy stuff with it, stuff we couldn't even imagine ten years ago. - which is kind of what prompt me to start preserving and talking about these old rpgmaker sites in the first place - cause we still get the odd "How do I make a Steal command in rm2000/2003" or "How do I get FF6 font for rm2000/2003" a lot these answers can be found in old communities and old games, that's why it's worth saving.
So yeah, if you have any artwork, files, games, even stories from your time on gaminggroundzero meD , please feel free to share them with us! I'm eternally grateful! It's really exciting to have you here!
EDIT: meD, is RPG Underground, still available somewhere in some form? please let me know.
...Speaking of preserving software,
Kentona ❤. Do you have still have a copy of:

It’d be greatly appreciated.
thank you so much for this information! ❤

In the end I think(as I can remember) that I got less interested in the website doings and more into creating original content art. So for some reason me and Wishmoo merged our websites into one, GGZ was born.

author=InfectionFiles...I’m not, but I have a genuine interest in preserving software, tutorials and applications that make rpgmaker2000/2003 infinity easier for future users to work with. Anyone can backup software, anyone; I just want to make sure the important stuff is still available.
I thought LordBlueRouge was our historian?

Really cool levelheaded dude, very experienced with rpgmaker. He was the one who stepped up to provide a solution for ya on rpgmakerweb.
But ya, I wanted to make sure you got help, because with your steam release coming soon it sounded like your need was urgent.
