So this might be silly to ask.
I never liked the cursors that RPG Maker 2003 used.. i prefer being able to make.. say.. and animated crystal.. or a hand pointing.. or a simple arrow for a cursor.
I never liked the big boxes, i don't know any actual RPG on the super nintendo or even the sega genesis that had such a cursor.
It's always something pointing or animated..
You get the idea.
I was just curious if we might see a change up in how the system works really.

Exactly my thoughts, and yes i have been looking and even commenting.
This excites me, as i prefer the old school low resolution and tiles, doing things in XP and VX and Ace is a paint because working with higher resolution tiles is time consuming and aggravating, i much prefer the 16x16 tiles approach.
And i am happy to have read further up to find out about window sizes being custom, i can actually make a wide screen old school RPG for a change.
I am good at making custom 16x16 graphics, but not good at making custom 32x32 graphics.
By the way, i have not checked.. will there be restrictions on the size of event sprites/character graphics?
Say i want something 50 pixels wide and 60 pixels tall, could it be done?

Map Editor
I am VERY impressed, and glad to see the progress you have made over time.
So am i right to assume that basically, the very bottom layer won't do anything, but the upper ones will?
There was something RMXP did that i loved i think was called priorities.
It was good for making say, a fence.
Depending on the tile's priority, if you stood below the tile that's a fence and you were taller than the fence yet below the fence, your upper half would be above the fence tile, but if you stood on the tile or above it a little, the tile would appear over your feet.
If you ever played Final Fantasy 6, you can see this in some towns that has fences in it, they even did it for some plants and pots and so forth.
XP had this but then they removed it in RPGVX and RPG VX Ace.
Little things like that really help add to a game.
I will never understood EB's logic when it comes to coming up with something awesome and useful, and then making a newer maker and removing a feature.. it just makes very little sense to me is all.

I noticed you mentioned something about "non commercial" does that mean a version will cost money?
I don't mind paying for something as long as it's better than what EB keeps doing.. add a new cool thing.. take away something useful, not good.
And yes i realize this is pretty much from the ground up, so i get that.
I don't care about the whole backwards compatibility thing.. it seemed useless to me anyhow.
I prefer taking new software out for a test run and just starting something new anyhow, and often times it's not hard to port some things over by hand such as graphics and maybe even sounds.
So this is good, and i really look forward to all of this!
I can't wait to make something with this once it's completed.. and no rush.. in know you're a one man army.
You can do like Id software does.."It will be done when it's done, but we are still working on it".
Most rational people are fine with how ever long something takes as long as it's not abandoned.
That's how i am anyhow.
But i want you to know how much i appreciate what you're doing.
You mention battle systems in your last post.
Gotta say my favorite is something turn based, yet animated.. yet you can some how adjust where the player is and maybe how they move.. wishful thinking.. just saying.

As far as the interface goes.. if it's still a kin to RPG Maker, and not a pain to find your way around and do things, than i don't think anyone will say it sucks.
For instance, there is software called RPG Toolkit... i have no idea what i am doing with it.. never got anything off the ground with it.. it just made no sense.
Setting up your player graphics and where they start on a map should not be a headache to figure out.. RTK is just a bad example of a maker.
I think what EB is good at most, is the interface being easy to navigate and figure things out, which is one of the main things people love about the series of software.

I just wanna thank you for going back to this, and working on it again.
I love what i have seen so far.
Kinda hoping i can change out the screen width though.. maybe have a screen size of 425x240..
I only say this cause.. i'm really tired of every RPG maker ever and even newer RPG makers sticking with a more boxed resolution.. i end up with black on the left and right side of my wide screen display.. it's something i expected to be fixed by EB long ago.. but they still seem to .. just ignore what computers are capable of now days.
So i figure it is up to someone in the community.. like maybe yourself.
But i am LOVING everything so far as i read further up.. the layering, the way auto tiles and tiles in general will be handled.. he audio format change up.. all of it.. so awesome!
So thankyou.. thankyou THANKYOU! ^_^

Sound Engine
I am honestly fine with OGG if it will work anything like it does in VX Ace with the ability to add LOOPSTART and LOOPLENGTH and have it be recognized and work accordingly.
In fact, i been dreaming of the day i could do such a thing in RM2K3.

Font Change?
These fonts were made out of the GBA Final Fantasy fonts, they're exact down to the last pixel folks, the Caps look weird like that even in the actual GBA FF games.
GBA FF4 Menu

GBA Text Box

They used the same font in GBA FF1 and 2, as well as FF5 and even FF6 all on the GBA.
I just did some work converting them.. it was a rather headache inducing process.
I plan to convert some other fonts from some other games.
Feldschlacht, i think the glairing issue is that you kinda mix low rez looking things with high rez looking things.
If you like a hand straightening it all out, lemme know.
I'm already working on similar, so i been down that road when it comes to getting everything evened out.
Also if those screenies are too big folks.. tell me.. i can shrink em down.
