XP Side Battle

It's totally possible to insert scripts into XP. For complex tasks, the Script Editor (icon is between Material Editor and Sound Test) is probably your best friend. For less complicated stuffs, the Event command "Script" is on page 3, on the lower-right hand side.

I know it's possible to have a side-battle system in XP, as I've seen one in action for Master of Souls. Where the developer got it from, I have no idea.

Most Important

Don't ask people what they want to see. Some pretty bad design decisions have been made in trying to cater to too many tastes. Ask instead who you want to build for, your "target audience" per say, then make decisions based on that.

For reference purposes, perhaps you should give a read of this article to help make that decision?

I think it's safe to say that it looks bad for any game. If you're serious about using this, it needs a lot more cleaning up before it becomes tolerable.

But what would I know of such things?

"Alpha"? Not quite familiar with the mathematical meaning. "E"? Yeah, I know that one. 2.71828 etc. The third one I'm unfamiliar with. I think the last one is a lower-case "Theta", but I could be mistaken.

Where's my "pi"!?

2.71 x 10^100 is 271 with 98 zeroes behind it, not 271. But I do agree that this is a pointlessly high number.

No, actually, I was just thinking that the decimals and the multipliers were some kind of flavor text. As if to exemplify that the ability is little more than an all-target instant death spell that hits the "KO" status regardless of what a character's resistance to the "KO" status is.

The boss really does that amount of damage. You can get strong enough to defeat this boss (although if you decide to fight it too early it'll be impossible). The game has almost zero grinding (and grinding is most of the time pointless), you get stronger as the plot demands.

I might be able to see a game display five digits for max hp/mp. Maybe six. But ten separate digits? Without looking like a complete mess? I'd like to see this.

I'd also like to understand this concept of no grinding. If the plot demands that the party be at a certain level of strength (as you clearly suggest), wouldn't the plot, therefore, require the player to grind? Error of type: nonsensical logic.

*Edit, nitpick: I think the value you're looking for is "E", which is the limit, as X approaches "infinity", of the value of (1+X^-1)^X. Or something like that. Well, that's what I was taught what the definition of "E" was, anyway.

Whoa... where am I...

But first, please, take that elephant out of your nose?

The number "6"! "6" is the enemy!

Sorry! Had to say it!

When I saw this screen on the front page, I was like "catmitts game?" Guess not.

Annnyway, what the...? Are you just joking around, or are you being totally serious with those damage values? If you're joking around (and the ability is merely dealing 271/543/271/271), that's pretty silly.

If you're being totally serious, then, um... how do you defeat this boss? I getting the odd impression that it spams this craziness each turn. Even if it doesn't, this is just... insane.

Mass Paste

I know there's some option in 2K, maybe 2K3 called "Multi-Paste". Never used it myself, so I have no clue how it works, nor do I remember the context where it can be used. If you're in XP/VX, I don't think there's any such option. Not that I can recall. I'm sure I must have attempted the "Shift" method of multi-selection, but that doesn't work in the context of the database in any maker.

Bufuddled Quest VX?

I figured it started out like that. Thanks for the background, Kentona!

Anyway, I've a few stupid random things going around my head, as my muse has been attracted to this idea like a moth to a flame, or something.

I'm not attached to any specific engine, or a setting, or much of anything, but I was kinda thinking on having a subtitle of Secret of the Inner Sanctum (Hello, Might and Magic reference!), or some snarky skew thereof.

I'm also thinking that it could incorporate tools, like a hookshot, or maybe a whip or knife that hits switches from afar. In the end, I want to find a way to abuse scripts in ways that makes 2K/2K3 users jealous. I have no clue how to implement such gameplay elements off-hand, but I'm still essentially talking to myself, here.
