Breath of Fire: A Line Ended

Gave the updated game a go. I wasn't expecting many huge changes, but there's a few notes of interest that I thought you might want to know about.

Every time I look at that portrait for Ryu, I think to myself, "Sataro!" This is more a note of personal concern, as the number of people who get that reference are quite few.

Found a possible missing word. Guess in parehtesis: "I wouldn't be surprized if the dark dragons don't declare open (war) if they're not chosen though..." The line is spoken by a guy in the Great Hall, lower-left hand side.

Probably unnecessary blat on a certain character:
Even if "Deis" is actually Myria in disguise, something still seems off with the sequence where Dologany is destroyed. I could be going off memories of how Myria acted in BoF3, but I don't think she would necessarily want to see the dragons kill themselves.

From what I remember of BoF3, Myria believes herself as a caretaker for the denizens of the world, Brood included. Sort of a mother-child relationship, if you will. It just so happens that the Brood are "troublesome children" who need "special treatment". The "special treatment" she gave Teepo and Ryu was a choice: to die by her hand, or to give up the powers of the Brood and live with her. She strongly advises the latter choice, possibly not even mentioning the first. Teepo took her advice, and chose to stay with her. Ryu chose... well, that depended on the player.

Outside of this, there still seem to be tiles are passable that should not be so. Check the possibilities of the area where the hut is. Not the hut's insides (I wasn't specifically checking that, though), but the area where the hut physically resides. There was also a place in one of the houses in Dologony, I can't even remember where (sorry!), where there was a chair, and the wall tile right next to it (or perhaps the one above it) was passable.

request a battle log/counter rpg vx

I don't recall seeing Battles Fought as an option for Other under Control Variables. I'm pretty sure it's an option in previous versions of the makers, though. I seem to recall a 2K game doing something with Battles Fought (or perhaps Number of Retreats) for... something.

However, if we're talking about VX... no clue how to do this off-hand.

Do I have to archive my game file as "rar" for it to be uploaded?

Projects are usually archived to have the smallest download size possible. Having a small download size attracts people, even with high-speed connections getting more and more prominent. In any event, one probably can't go wrong with the use of the RAR or ZIP format.

As for which specific program to use to archive your data, I personally use WinZip to ZIP my own projects, and for the files that I download that are ZIP. I also use WinRAR for RAR files I download. However, there are probably other programs out there that perform similar functions. For example, I keep hearing about this program called 7-Zip...

New Monster

Is it just me, or can I not see the video from this page? I mean, I can use the link embedded in the "No Image" icon to open a new tab (or whatever), and see the video from there, but...

I had the vid muted, so I don't know how it sounds. Looks decent, though. Kinda want to know who that third character is (NINA!?).

Whoa. Did I just get a bot?

Attempt at irony/sarcasm failed! Unless I'm failing at comprehending the irony/sarcasm of these posts? Wouldn't be the first time internet comprehension missed!

Lowercase god as you refer to yourself as a god and not the God, as this would imply you are one of many lesser gods and/or goddesses.

As far as the denizens of my world are concerned, I am uppercase God: The being from which all else originates. That would include whatever lesser gods and goddesses that may, or may not, exist. The capitalization still applies. Maybe I'm just thinking too much? A definite possibility!

Our final name, and our commitment to you, the gamer.

Campfire, a place to chat with your characters about their feelings about what's going on.

Any similarities to the Private Action system from Star Ocean? Because if so, even if it's just one location in the entire game, that would be pretty awesome!

A Variation of the Master System.

Whoa! What's the plan for this!? Need... more... information!

Survey for readers.

1. Why do you play fangames?

Because I liked the original material, and am always interested to see how other people spin the ideas behind the concept.

2. What is the deciding factor in whether or not you will play a particular fangame?

I'm not sure what the "trigger" is for me going from "Oh. It's a crappy fangame." to "Oh! I might might want to keep an eye on this!" Probably has something to do with presentation, but who really knows?

3. What would turn you away from a fangame aside from poor dialogue and/or mapping?

I was insulted by how Yuna changed from Final Fantasy X to Final Fantasy X-2. In the first game, she is a pillar of hope. A shining beacon that other denizens of Spira could look to. In the second game? She has only the vestiges of her former personality. True, part of her is with He-Who-May-Not-Be-Named (AKA: Mr. Blitz), but I had the impression that she was stronger than that. Was my impression mistaken? Did she not tell Maester Mika (or was it Yunalesca) that she would bear her sorrow? Sorry. I over-blatted there!

4. How faithful should a fangame be to the source material? How much truly original material should the fangame have?

This is an issue I'm sure many fangame developers have. How closely to the source should I be without alienating anybody new to the material? I'm not sure if there's an easy answer, but being aware that there should be a balance is a good sign.

5. What would you expect from a Final Fantasy fangame? What would you not expect?

To be blatantly honest, every time I see the words "Final Fantasy fangame", I think of Dream Quest 2000. Now, I had a messload of fun with that game, mainly because I could hack the save file on top of messing with the database. It might not be a particularly good game, or a long one, but I spent quite some time fiddling with it, and learning what worked and what didn't. In the end, what I was playing was not the thing I originally downloaded, but I didn't care because I wasn't distributing what I altered anyway.

6. What would make a Final Fantasy fangame feel like a worthy fangame rather than just the dream of a random fan of the series?

Good question. I don't know if there is a correct answer.

7. How important do you consider nostalgia to be when it comes to playing a fangame? How much does it help (or hurt) the experience?

Well, if we're talking about a fangame that's supposed to be a direct sequel/prequel, then nostalgia must be present. If the developer cannot cause that sense of "Yeah, I remember my party doing that." or "I know exactly what's going to happen here!", that developer has failed.

8. Would you say that being too similar to the source material is a bad thing?

Depends. If it's something like an abysmally slot walking speed, you probably don't want to emulate that. If it's crazy-hard difficulty, well, I guess that's a point of contention for the "new vs old players" debate.

What sounds better?

The MP3 sounds better, as it probably should. However, if space is an issue, the much smaller MIDI version will serve.
