RPGS... you've beaten

I feel like I ought to object to this thread, probably because it's just an excuse to brag, but I'm too tired and bored to care right now.

Does this include RPG *hybrids*? We could be here all day if we count Action RPGs. Do TACTICAL RPGs count? What about any given game that uses RPG elements? RPG elements are in freaking EVERYTHING. Even our FPS games!

Assuming we only count the traditional RPGs, more conventional action-RPGs, and Strategy RPGs, and exclude all indie games, and some of the more off the wall nonsense, my list would look like this. Sorted in no particular order

I'm going to exclude Zelda games since don't think they qualify (Yet I will count Actraiser! What topsy turvy logic!)

RPGs I have completed:

Suikoden (Did not excite me enough to bother with sequals. Gremio was awesome, though.)
Rhapsody: A musical Adventure (C'MON C'MON C'MON!!! GOTTA GET ME SOME O'DAT BBQ!!)
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
Lunar: Eternal Blue
Legend of Legaia (Stupid hard, but I have this weird affection for the game. I liked the atmosphere.)
Legend of Mana (Pretty!)
Final Fantasy 1 (NES)
Dragon Warrior 1 (Way better than FF1)
Final Fantasy 2 (Origins version)
Final Fantasy IV (Easy-type SNES version)
Final Fantasy V (FF Chronicles version)
Final Fantasy VI (SNES, chronicles)
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy IX (Personal favorite because I'm a cutscene whore.)
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy Tactics
Final Fantasy X-2
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest
Brave Fencer Musashi (Campy fun)
Threads of Fate (Ditto)
Chrono Trigger (SNES)
Chrono Cross
Kingdom Hearts (Meh)
Arc the Lad Collection
Skies of Arcadia (Dreamcast version)
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness
Disgaea 2
Makai Kingdoms
Ogre Battle 64
Paper Mario
Super Mario RPG
Earthbound
Secret of Mana
Soul Blazer (Does this count?)
Illusion of Gaia (Does this count?)
Secret of Evermore
Pokemon Blue
Phantasy Star Online (dreamcast)
Actraiser (Does this count?)
Dragon Warrior 7 (Not worth the effort)
Baldur's Gate (Saverok is a seriously cheap)
Fallout
Fallout 2 (Vault City prevails, citizen.)
Darkstone (Not worth the effort)
Xenogears (Not worth the effort)
Odin sphere
Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door

RPGs I have but haven't completed:

La Pucelle Tactics (How am I supposed to SNEAK PAST the shroom dragons if they're blocking the freakin' exits?)
Anachronox
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Dragon Warrior 3 (Gameboy color)
Baldur's Gate 2
Pokemon Crystal
Pokemon Silver
Alundra
Knights of the Old Republic

I play video games some times.

Wow, I can't believe how low some of you guys rank story in relation to an RPG.

Considering the majority of games in the RM community, is this actually surprising?

I can't argue that gameplay is real important when it comes to games, it's the very nature of the medium after all, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm a cutscene whore. RPG plots are almost always campy bad fiction, which isn't always bad. Bad fiction is great so long as you don't get pretentious about it. But games with effective story telling tend to latch onto my heart far quicker than anything else.

Japan Time

I like the fact that the character models drastically contrast the stage. It makes it seem even more unique, but yeah, it draws attention to the fact that it doesn't quite fit.

Still, I adore how it looks.

I play as Mario. Because he has a mustache and jumps some times.

The Great Console Count

Nintendo Wii
Nintendo 64
Super Nintendo Entertainment System
Nintendo Entertainment System
Gameboy
Gameboy Color
Gameboy Advance
Playstation
Playstation 2
Dreamcast
Sega Genesis
Sega CD
Sega 32X

I had a Sega Saturn a week ago, but I using GameTZ.com to trade it for a Nintendo DS at the moment.

New Article: Your Intro Sucks

I have to agree with this article.

Brevity is the soul of wit.

Game Titles

It's really just an issue of marketing.

You certainly can't judge a book by its cover, but people are less likely to buy a book that looks dull.

On the bright side, there's always word of mouth from the brave few who DO take a look. And on the Internet, that's one of the best things you can have.

First impressions are important, but hardly a death toll.

Two Hundred Members

I was very fond of Gamingw.net back when it was properly maintained. I don't resent the place, but I can't say that I'm fond of the forums, which is about all that's left now. Had a very hard time browsing them for more than a couple days before taking off.

It was still was about the biggest hub the RM community had for the last couple years.

I'm hoping this place becomes the new center for the RM community.

JIMINY CHRISTMAS, Brickroad! You're going to blow up the board if you keep this up!

Game Titles

So, when you are thinking up the title for your game, do you draw some significance from the story line, be it a place, item, or symbol? Do you pick something that basically sums up the game in a couple words?

Or do you slap together a bunch of important sounding phrases and call it a day?

EVE OF FATED LEGACY DESTINY LEGEND: THE SAGA OF KINGDOM'S ETERNITY AWAKENING EXODUS.

2.

There are a lot of names out there that tell me ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about the game I am looking at. There are also a great number of exceptions to this generalization, but I typically see a lot of games that try their best to sound epic and important but ultimately come off as forgettable because so many games use titles like that.

If your game sounds generic, than won't it probably be dismissed as generic too? Then again, there are only so many adjectives out there and sometimes what a game WANTS is a big, honkin' epic title.

This is just an observation. I don't mean to rag on anyone's game title, especially if they LIKE their game title. More power to you.
