Is this what I should expect from the best of the best RMXP titles?

To Ronove: I'm mainly the only person who thinks that the writing is garbage. It's simply something that I view. Yeah, it's a quite popular game here, but I myself cannot stand the game. You are welcome to your opinion just as much as I am welcome to mine.

Again, I apologize to you and everyone else who came across as thinking that I was the definitive truth on anything, let alone the first and only XP game I've played so far. I mainly created this topic out of shock and anger, and was hoping to get a little confirmation that there truly are better xp games out there. I was given several examples, and I'm very grateful for them.

To Anaryu: I don't know what to say other than that I promise you that this was not made as a troll attempt. I'm not the biggest fan of drama either, although I don't like to say it much, as I find that people who have NO DRAMA PLEASE in their profile end up attracting the drama they desperately wish to avoid.

Again, I made this topic mainly hoping for some confirmation that there are better xp games out there.

As for me only playing a couple hours: yeah, for all I know the game actually does get better, but the game gave me one of the worst first impressions that I've ever been given. The battle system feels so bare boned, and the dialogue was nothing but annoying. If you start out with something like that, what reason do I have to believe that it'll get better?

I should also probably note that no one on this board has said "Yeah, the opening is pretty bad, but my god does the game make up for it X hours in after you complete X event!" If someone says something like that, I can see myself possibly giving it another chance in the future.

As for your second to last paragraph: I repeat, this was MY FIRST XP TITLE, and I created this topic for some confirmation that there are better XP games out there, whcih I got in the first few replies. It's kinda hard to list other xp titles when you've never touched them. Most of my experience has been with RPGMaker 2k and 2k3, I've yet to even touch any VX or VXAce titles, although I now have access to the programs, and will be able to when I wish.

Again, I meant no offense with this topic, and I apologize for causing so much of it. I bet that you yourself could recommend some great XP titles for me as well, and I'd probably enjoy them once I got around to them.

To Ronove:

I'll take it that you think that it gets worse as it goes along.

Oh, and this is a response to Epilip that I thought warranted its own post, sinc ei imagine that he's the only one confused by something that I said.

When I say that I've been focusing what I play at the moment based the beginning of the site's lifetime, I mean this.

I check the status filter, and make it so I only see completed games.

I check the minimum rating filter, and make it so that I see game that have a star rating of 2.5 of higher.

I sort the results of this site based off of the date the game was added to rpgmaker.net.

Then I start reading reviews, seeing what at the very least sounds interesting.

It may be something of a flawed system, as there's probably dozens of games on this site that are such shiny diamonds in the rough, but it's the best system I've come up with at this point.

I'll post a list of games that I plan to give a chance in the future later tonight in case anyone is curious, via pastebin of course.

*takes Alterego's advice for the rest of this topic, and hopefully will remember to do the same in the future*

To Chana: That makes me appreciate the game even more. Thank you for pointing that out. I'm always happy to hear when games explore areas that most games won't. It doesn't make up for the bad dialogue and overall horrid first impression that the game gave me, but it makes me like it a bit more.

Again, Thanks!

Edit: Oh, and while I'd never expect or insist that you would actually do this in a million years, I wouldn't mind if someone kinda gave a full plot synopsis of the game. Again, I will never play the game again, so feel free to add as many spoilers as you desire.

Edit: To Solitare: Yeah, maybe I'm a bit too hard on the game's writing. Regardless, I still would consider it horrid. I can appreciate it a bit more now thanks to some of the people on this topic.

As a general rule, I don't play anything that doesn't have a COMPLETE status.

I'm not here to test games, I'm here to play and enjoy them.

To Solitayre:

I wasn't expecting George R. R. Martin quality, but I wasn't expecting abysmal quality as well.

chana

Yeah, A Blurred Line is a god of a game itself.

Again though, I wasn't trying to say that I'm the definitive truth for anything. I'm merely expressing how I feel about a game that I thought was the most beloved XP title on this site.

The dialogue between the characters was unbelievably well written, and dear god did it have a lot of insane plot twists that actually made sense considering the setting. My favorite part was the big plot twist with North and Catawba.

It also deals with grey matter better than just about any game I've played. Vance I especially loved for this reason.

amerkevicius

Again, I was judging this game based oteh fact that it had reviews praising the games writing.

Yeah, RPGMaker has the same problem that fanfiction has. Anyone can make a game, But that is also its benefit because that means that anyone who is insanely creative can pull off something extraordinary, and to find those extraordinary games, I'm relying on reveiws. This was my first time so far that I felt that they let me down.

Crystalgate

Alright, I guess that what you just said makes the description make a little more sense now, so thanks. I don't see myself ever playing the game again, but at least I can appreciate it a bit more now.
