The Final Fantasy XIII topic
What the fuck is with the ending of this game. It went from really cool to really bad to just okay.
I'm pretty sure the whole thing was a "whoops, we spent too much time on graphics" and not much thought actually went into this.
FAL'CIE SMOKE AND MIRRORS, WHAT A GREAT WAY TO PLUG A PLOT HOLE!
I really like how they tied the logo together in the last scene though. The boxart of the game is a huge spoiler but it's kinda impossible to know what it is until you beat the game.

When they took all this shit out of RPGs, wait made them think treasure chests were one thing that would be good to leave in?

Please post here oldbies. I am very tired and I cannot see very well...
Does anybody remember when badluck had that website with the really cool side scrolling game where you played as a flying demon? Demon's Gate or something, I forgot what it was called. Does anybody have that?
Obscure topic doesn't have it so you oldbies better have this game or know what I'm talking about.

Being innovative with RPG Maker
Hype and how it affects you
I tell my close friends what I'm doing but that's it. That doesn't count towards hype (I don't think), but sometimes I would get random messages from people who I didn't know saying things about what I was working on.
From what I've seen in the rm community, people like to hype their vision rather than their actual game. Big dreams, big hopes, and lots of screenshot/demo mockups happen, and people post them to generate hype for this vision. Seekers of the Sun is a good example of this. Even though it had a demo, it was only a scripted vision of what the actual game would have been. For anybody who has played the game, you knew right when it ended that it wasn't ever going to be complete. Not because it was too ambitious (okay maybe it was a little bit), but because the game was a mess in terms of organization.
Anyway, don't hype the vision of your game. Hype your actual game. I think you're doing it the right way, Drakonais.

2D or 3D?
I like both.
This should be more of a discussion about controls because 3d games still have not gotten controls down as well as 2d games. I'm not even talking about pixel based movement or anything, just bad camera issues and having to move around using two control sticks. You're always struggling with the game. Even the simple act of turning around takes way longer than it should in most games. And now you've got motion controls when people haven't even perfected regular controls yet.

The accessories are wayyyyy more important than the weapons in this game.
They can be a life or death situation in certain battles. Sometimes they're more important than your paradigms. Upgrading accessories is also more important since no weapon can give you haste or Protect + Shell + Veil at the beginning of a battle. Strength wise I dunno, but strength really doesn't do much in this game.
Stagger % = Strength. There you go, ignore the Strength on the status screen. 8)

Culture of crass, apathy and cynicism
Whose Line Is it Anyway: X Edition
You're one of the few people I know who do this. It's nice to know that not everybody is stuck in 20th century rpg design and are finding ways to keep the player in control (which I think is the key thing here) while still developing the story/characters.
Cool stuff!

What do people care about?
post=129823post=129818there is no difference between "indie" and "amateur". Get this: They're the same fucking thing, a hobby rather than a job.
Craze's tired argument
Second, I disagree with you on the fact that RPG Maker can't be used to make quality games, "indie games" (define what an indie game even is if it isn't just a game made independantly... Like in RM)
There is a difference!
Indie developers go to events such as GDC, PAX, etc. They give presentations about indie game development and showcase their games. It is a rapidly evolving market (amateur RM is not). Lots of them want to get their games on XBLA, PSN, etc. I think what Craze is trying to do with his games is attempt to break into this market, even if most indie devs hate rpg maker. I don't think he's saying RM games aren't quality. He wants to prove them (those indie dudes) wrong, I think we all do! But if you want to reach that market, you have to rethink how to approach your game development.
It's just the sad truth that they really just aren't accepted. Some of the reasons are valid (ripped graphics, music, etc). Some aren't.
Just wanted to say that. You all may continue arguing now. =)
