So what about horror/scary games?
Looks like some of you need to go play Dead Space. There are things that game does on purpose to build suspense. The camera placement on the character throughout the game, suspense, and even the controls add to the horror aspect of the game.
I've heard Call of Cthulhu is pretty scary, it seems like that game was overlooked.

Map design and level design are the same thing, a word was just replaced.
You are playing on a map, which can also be known as a level in the game. Or you are playing on a level, which can also be known as a map in the game.

How about this; are there any cliches that you LIKE?
Everybody likes a cliché. Because everything is cliché.
The difference is how well you hide or improve upon one. So yes, I like every cliché as long as it is done correctly. I can appreciate when developers take things an extra step forward, whether it be with the storyline or gameplay. But seriously, that word is tossed around so much that it practically does not matter or has no meaning anymore. All games are cliché in SOME way.

Please post your beta report, Ciel.
Also I am hiring you for beta testing. You cannot back out of my invitation.
By the way I thought the last 2 misaos were the dumbest thing ever, but that is just me. It was just a method for fanboys to vote for their favorite game.

author=Neok link=topic=2863.msg56025#msg56025 date=1231901551No JPC was that guy who made the most beautiful maps ever. If he wasn't using RM2K/3 at the time, it would have looked even better than it did. The style was certainly unique.
You mean.. JKB?
Just so you guys know, he gave up RPG Maker. He's now working on a Mega Man X fangame in Flash which plays pretty much just like the SNES ones. It's shaping up to be pretty awesome looking!
JKB though, I forgot about him. I've seen his Megaman flash videos online and I really wish he dropped in from time to time. His stuff certainly looks awesome. I still wish he would release his old game.
In your opinion, which series fans are the worst?
Mother is amazing. It is like a twisted Dragon Quest game, but with better dialogue and gameplay.
8)
Just play Mother 3, though. It's the best one.

Oh yeah I talked about the CT Resurrection thing.

Stunning.
There are other parts than the one I just linked. All of them are amazing.

COMMUNITY DISCUSSION: So let's take more pride in ourselves.
By the way I just want to point out that even if we do continue this somewhat pointless argument, outside of these communities, we are seen as mostly trash no matter what we use (XP, 2K, it doesn't matter it is...RPG Maker). I don't think it's possible to alter the perception of these programs, but the best we can do is make the best possible games in them and get them out there to show that good things can come from these programs.
I think we could all benefit if we got more games from different engines though. But that is a separate discussion. :)

Read 'em and weep.
Valkyrie Profile - Confidence in Domination
Rudra - The Spirit Chaser (And every other boss song in the game.)
Secret of Mana - Danger
Secret of Mana - Meridian Dance
Romancing Saga 3 - Boss (And every other boss song from the game)
PS: If more composers studied counterpoint they would be able to write music as rad as Kenji Ito's.
Symphony of the Night - Festival of Servants
This is so good that I am willing to sacrifice some of the ~cool points~ I got for mentioning more obscure stuff like Rudra or Romasaga.
But you forgot the Lufia 2 - Boss Battle
Oh yeah I have that Battle With Magus remix theme from the composer that was working on Chrono Trigger Resurrection. It is insane.
COMMUNITY DISCUSSION: So let's take more pride in ourselves.
I can see why people suggest the move to the newer makers. They are just better products, with much higher production qualities. The huge downside to the XP and VX communities are that you CANNOT tell one game from another, despite the high quality RTP. Last Scenario looks like every other XP game out there, the only difference to it is the battle layout and character portraits. While you can say that the 2k/3 products use rips from commercial games which is...hehe...illegal (ps nobody cares), and these users still mostly just take the garbage resources that are thrown at them, the games have more potential to at least look different. Most users still have not used the real potential of the XP and VX programs yet though, which sucks.
Though I think Feld is right in that it shouldn't matter what the game is made in. A good developer will make use of what they have, and the game will be fun regardless despite all the technical things people love to brag about. Alter A.I.L.A Genesis is so much better than 95% of the XP/VX games!
