Chrono Trigger gets the Re-Release Treatment

I so posted mine first >:(
What the hell.

(Ignore this, I don't know.)

Chrono Trigger DS Confirmed

http://gonintendo.com/?p=48177

Basically, Chrono Trigger is coming to the Nintendo DS. If this isn't proof for you, I don't know what is. The real question is if will be just a direct port, or if they will remake it like they did with FFIV.
By the way, I am pretty hyped.

Discuss.

EDIT: A quote from somebody on Kotaku who asked some Japanese VG guys(take this with a grain of salt):

"Yes, this is a Nintendo DS remake of Chrono Trigger, with "extra events" and the hand-drawn animated endings from the PSOne re-release included. It will have "minimal to no stylus support". It is very real. And coming at the end of this year. (In Japan.)"

Pixfont sounds interesting. But yeah, just send it to me over AIM.
Nathrael, yeah I was just wondering. I really do like the gritty feeling you've got going, definitely post more if you have any.

RPG Maker Games V.S Commercial Games

Well I'll just say that commercial games aren't always better than indie games(in terms of enjoyment), they just have more resources/a company behind them. I also don't see a need for makers on current gen systems, that's what dev kits are for.
But yeah, I would pay some money for a good indie game, as long as it's original content and $5.

I like the look of the CMS litearc, but the menu color is too transparent. A simpler background would help things out, but I think the transparency needs to be toned down a bit. What font are you using there, by the way? I really like how it looks!

Tau, other than the small error with the water on the far left, it looks good. Where is your game man.

Nathrae, looks great. I'm with litearc though, what are the black lines?

I seen that same chipset used in so many games they migth as well make it RTP...
What does this have to do with anything?

There's not too much wrong with the actual map, though I do see some tileset errors on some of the walls. The map is designed pretty well, all I would really do is find a good tint to set the cave at and maybe add a very slight overlay.

Edit: That is amazing, Azn. The Terranigma edits fit well.

What's important?

This is a pretty bad topic, man. You could have at least gave your opinion as well rather than just making a few questions(1 of them being useless).

Personally, nothing is the most important part of an RPG to me. I guess the word quality comes to mind, but that's a very broad term. There is no part of an RPG that is the most important. Every part holds each other up, so if one fails, the whole thing does. That's just what I think.

I'm not sure what you mean by being a fan of pacing. If you could explain that in a little more detail, I could answer it.

MP3 vs. Midis

I think MP3s sound fine, as long as its not some random Japanese girl singing in the background. There are plenty of MP3 songs that go well with SNES graphics, I am positive of this. I have original music made specifically for these type of graphics(SNES), and they work very well. It really does all depend on what kind of vibe I'm trying to give, though. I use MIDI's a little more than I use MP3's, but it really all depends on what kind of atmosphere I want to give off. The simpler tunes work well with MIDI, while some of the more intense ones work good with MP3.
It's hard to find good quality MIDI's now. Vgmusic is a horrible place for it, I hate the quality of the material there.

And uh, if you guys are doubting Mog, head over to bluelaguna.net and listen to the Final Fantasy 6 soundtrack. It's MP3, but it sounds pretty good! I can't find a MIDI with that quality. :(

An FFX thread for you schmucks

The story in Final Fantasy VII wasn't that great. You can take all the shit from Crisis Core, Advent Children, Dirge or Cerberus etc and it still doesn't have that good of a story. Decent characters, but not a great story. The gameplay did make up for it, though. I agree with Darken.

Final Fantasy IX is so much better than Final Fantasy VIII. I hated FF VIII so much because it's the worst storyline out of any Final Fantasy, and the characters are horrible. None of them were interesting at all except for maybe Rinoa.

Final Fantasy X was a pretty good one as well. I probably enjoyed it more than IX and VII, but I really had to grow into it. I didn't like the game at first.
If there was a contest for the best soundtrack though, that would be a tough one.

Release Something Podcast

Yeah, this was good stuff. I enjoyed listening to it. I wish you guys went more in depth with some of the games, there were only 1 or 2 games that got a lot of attention.
It's the first show, so my guess is things will get cleaned up as you go along.
