Indie games that have impacted you

Aedemphia isn't that good. The only thing I truly liked about it were the graphics, which I do admire and give credit for the amount of work put into it. Nothing else stands out, even if it has a CBS.
Basically, it's boring.

I liked Tara's Adventure. It's a German game, made by two people(one of them being Lachsen). It's nothing like Velsarbor though, the style of gameplay is completely different. It has a battle system that's an exact replica of Final Fantasy 6, which is really fun and enjoyable. The game also features a really well made world map. Pretty much EVERY patch of forest or dirt on the map can be entered, where you can explore. So nothing is just there for decoration. Each one of the areas has puzzles that you need to solve, and lots of neat items. Check out the trailer, I can't explain how good it is. I'm not a fan of too many German games, but this game really is good, and you can play it without knowing the language at all.

This game deserves more recognition, so that's why I'm plugging it.

Your RM Preference

Scripting is overrated. *Sarcasm*

In all seriousness, I don't have a real preference. I'm sticking with RM2K3 because I'm making a game with it. The traditional SNES feel it gives off is another reason. That's it, though. XP and VX are more flexible hands down. I think one main problem is that people just grab scripts for these engines, but really have no idea how to actually make a GAME with them. It's disappointing to see these things not being used to their full potential.

Favourite game and program

Software: RM2K3
Games Made: Mine.
Favorite Games: Dawn of Darkness Legends, Balmung, Forgotten Origin, The Way.

I've played too many. My list would be too long to mention favorites.

Done, Gone, Finito

If you're spending too much time on the forums, take a break. You don't need to leave permanently. It's like you're leaving some good friends and the reason behind it being "I hang out with you guys too much". Just take a break.

You should stick around. And you don't need to make anything, we don't care. It's kind of a silly reason to leave, anyway.
And yeah, backups are your friend.

What's the deal with people trying to add voice acting these days. =/
Shit, I would hate Chrono Trigger if Crono was going "HAHHH" after every attack.

Anyway, it looked great, Ashramaru. Like the others said, you'll need to get rid of that exclamation mark. Instead, have the enemy glow or flash before attacking to simulate that dodge command. Also, get rid of the quotes before the battle. It's dumb, because the message is stating the obvious. Other than that, it's pretty cool so far.
Edit: Also, as for the reloading....I used to have that feature. Then I realized it was the most stupid and pointless thing ever. There is no point in having such a worthless thing, no matter what.

Good stuff
Yes, I completely agree with this.
I enjoy making games as a hobby, nothing else. Like Neok said, I trust my own judgement and I call the shots. I'll share it once I see that the vision I've made is clear, and that people can enjoy it for what it is. It's worked better for me, but at the same time the community always need some kind of motivator for them. So it isn't necessarily a bad thing that people are active and posting things.

And thats the right attitude you should have, but after you really thought about the fan's advice. Dont be overly stubborn and say "well in my game there is spelled like their." Thats being an ass. Im not calling you an ass because you did say that you do care what others thing of your project and only you know your project inside and out.
Not to speak for him, but when you've been around for a fairly long time, you simply KNOW how things work. Of course changes are always being made, and they listen to the fans to an extent. They trust their judgement more though, rather than listening to someone who's been around only for a year or two.

Anyway, as for the main post, here's my opinion(again). The community has never been about complete games. The mentality has always been a "Hey, look what I made" type of deal. Whether the game is complete or not matters, but it doesn't entirely dictate how well received a game is. It should be, but that's not a big part of the mentality in the community. It's just how things have been for the past 8 years.

My pants are too tight.

Game Design Discussion of the Week: Hey Assholes, Stop Giving Up.

Serious game making discussion here.
While I completely agree with everything, I'm not going to go and call somebody an asshole for not completing a project. Badluck isn't an asshole for saying Ara Fell was not what he originally visioned, therefore scrapping the project. And I don't know anybody who actually vanished off the face of the earth without telling anybody. Well, maybe Inoran.

In my opinion, I could care less who finishes a project and who doesn't. Would it have been great if ABL was actually completed? I guess, but at the end of the day we should all just be putting something out there, complete or not. The community is plagued with advertisements and hype more so than actual demos(just look at the screenshot threads). I feel that as long as you at LEAST put something out there and show everybody what you worked on, there's no reason for you(the FANS) to complain. Most of you might disagree with me.

But yeah I completely agree with you on most of the stuff, and it sure would be great if there were more complete projects. I'm just saying that as long as you at least give something to the community, nobody should really be complaining. If there is a 10 page hype topic and nothing comes out of it, then yeah, that person is an asshole.

Nice article Feldschlacht IV. =)

She. Meiscool's female.
And I thought I saw a similar map before, and it turns out I was right!
Haha, I wouldn't....be too...
*keeps quiet*

Liberty, I like the edited trees. Even the slope looks really awesome, I don't have any complaints with the map. Excellent use of RTP.

Euphorian, that's really nice. The colors on the grass really makes the difference in that screenshot. I would get rid of the brown part of the road the character is standing on. The texture difference between the regular ground and that is too great. Other than that, it's fantastic.

Sion, yours is good too. I've seen it before...from someone else! Great work regardless.

antifarea, the maps aren't too bad. Though they don't look like they have anything going for them. Not having a world map is a great idea, but only if you make good use of the areas you're traveling through. It's just wasting the players time if you go through 3-5 maps that all look the same with no secrets to them!
I'm just judging this based on what I'm seeing. They just seem a little bland in terms of actual design.
