The Bonus Dungeon is the Final Dungeon?

Bonus Dungeons are great in games where I really like the gameplay but don't care much about the story. So when I finish them I'm just like "I want to play more with this gameplay".

I played the bonus dungeons in most tri-Ace games, because of how fun the combat is in them, but didn't care about them in many other games.

Are we too generous with game reviews?

Problem for me is that if a game is so bad that I won't even give it 3 stars, then I'll just not play it. And it feels unfair giving a bad review without having played the game.
...How would you know a game is that bad if you haven't played it?

Granted it is pretty easy to spot a low quality game, but at the same time it's hard to really accurately judge a game if you haven't played it. Maybe the art is really bad but the writing and game-play is outstanding.

Some games just look so bad or have such a horrible font / interface, that no matter how good their writing is, you just know you won't like it.

You can also often judge a game by its feature list and reviews already written. If a game praised itself or is praised because of one feature of which I know that I'd absolutely hate it, I also don't bother downloading it.

Finally there are many games you try and after 5 minutes just realize how bad there are. Even here you don't feel like writing a review about it, because you couldn't give much insight in the first place.

These are the only games I'd rate 1-star and 2-star.

Games that fascinate me so much that I actually finish them are worth at least 4 stars.

Your favorite cellphone games

Do iOS games count? Because then I'd just list stuff like Romancing SaGa 2. It's available... in English!

Also I played this on PC, but it also has a mobile version and is more like a mobile game: Roaming Fortress
That one was really fun, don't know if mobile it's as good as on PC though.

Same story with Super Hexagon of course.

Also like all the Kotobuki Solutions / Kemco RPGs. They are all generic, but fun to play, challenging and almost SNES quality. And you get a new one like every month. And they are often on sale so you can easily get them for $3 each.

Poofreading in game development

Yeah. I proof read my dialogues many times. One time in the source code, after that usually only when playtesting ingame. Whenever I fix a typo, I recompile and play the same section of the game again until I'm satisfied.

...I really hate writing dialogues and reading them though...

So Erm... Mighty No. 9

The game's graphics just look so horrible and bland that I don't even want to try it.

I do like most of the recent Sonic games (Colours and Generations were pretty good imo).

RMN's (New) Favourite RM Games Of All Time Thread (2016 Edition)

Seems like Luxaren Allure is the biggest newcomer.

Too bad nobody else voted for The Amber Throne which is my personal biggest newcomer, but we already realized people here don't like to buy commercial RPG Maker games, so that's no surprise.

What RMN Members do YOU want to work with?

I can only work together with someone I consider superior to me in the aspect of game development that the person would be doing.

The other requirement is that that person is mainly focusing on graphics, music and/or dialogues. I need the whole game balance, battle design and map design for myself because I love doing it too much.

So generally, the people I would like work together with are all the amazing artists, composers and dialogue writers I've encountered.

I really would like to cooperate, but so far it wasn't very successful. I worked together with several people already, but usually they just disappeared mid-development or turned out to be of the "incredible genius but horrible personality" category.

That's why these days I don't make games myself anymore and instead help out in the game design section of these forums. It is kind of like a collaboration too except you won't see them again after you helped and won't be frustrated about them suddenly disappearing.

But to not get too off-topic, these are people I would work together with that are registered on RMN:
CARRIONBLUE (Safety Live Is A Maze)
SnowOwl (Miserere)
Ronove (Star Stealing Prince)

Others:
GrandpaPixel (Legena) - Helped him out with the game, but he isn't good at battle balance so I'd like to take full control over that in a collab project.
Orchard-L (City of Dreams, Boundless Ocean, Missing) - One of the few game develop I consider superior to me in almost all aspects. Would like to work on a project with him where I only do the battle design (the only aspect I'd consider myself better than him).
Valkayree (Ends of the Earth 2) - We worked together on EOTE2 and wanted to work on another project when he disappeared. Really miss him and would like to work with him again.
WhiteOwl (Fantasy Under A Blue Moon X) - I really really love his art style. Would only want to help him improving the balance in his games and testing for bugs.
KFHarlock (Spellshard, Dungeonmen) - Really wanted to help him out as playtester, but he kinda... neglected to reply to my mails or fix any bugs. And is pretty much missing now too.

Generally, it's those people whose games I play and think "Man this game looks awesome and would be amazing if only it was balanced better and the battles were more interesting."

RTP vs. Custom Graphics

I'd definitely rate custom graphics higher than RTP graphics, even if they don't look as good. But they still need a certain level of quality. Needs to be recognizable that effort was put into creating them.

When do you consider yourself "good" at something?

Hmm, that's an interesting question actually.

With graphics it's like that for me. I never did any graphics and always said I suck at graphics. I always tried to find an artist for my games, but they all proved to be unreliable when I don't pay them (all didn't meet the deadlines and disappeared eventually).

One day, I decided to try to remake one of my old RPG Maker 95 games which was lost during a HD crash and rather spontaneously decided to try and do all the graphics myself. I read a lot of pixel tutorials and trained my skills. I talked with artists I admired and learned that they invest 1 hour for a single 20x20 maptile. So I decided to see how far I can get by just investing a lot of time. And time I invested. I drew and drew for hundreds of hours, trying to copy existing styles but still places every single pixel manually. In the end I had all the graphics available for a village, the world map and a dungeon (including characters and monster sprites). I created the game as far as I could with those graphics and released it as a demo. I thought the game looks pretty good and people even complimented me on the graphics. But still... I realized I really truly hate creating graphics, just as much as I had writing dialogues. Even though with a lot of time investment I can write a good story and I can draw amazing graphics, it's nothing I enjoy.

So would I say I'm good at graphics? Maybe I think it when I'm by myself, but the official statement will remain that I suck at graphics and need an artist to ever make a game with graphics again.

And honestly I think that everybody can do "good" if he really wants to. If I managed to do good pixel art, then anyone can. It's all just about willpower and dedication.
