Internet persona vs "Real life" persona
That is what the internet was built upon. The olden rules don't apply over here. Your pesky social skills count for NOTHING. NOTHING I tell you.

Shallow and polite acquaintances are important in situations. Take work for example. You work with someone 40 hours a week, and their personality really grates you, and your personality yours. Should you be honest and keep on bugging that open wound, or should you be civil with one another. Should you realize that you both are going to be staying there, and you'll have to make the best of the situation and work with the other person despite not liking them. This is also not being fake, it's two people trying their best to make a situation better for everyone.
Of course I know this has to happen in that strange and weird place called "real life".
But seriously. There is very little reason to do this online.
Looking back at my post it seems it may have come off as being shallow and polite was a bad thing to do in real life when what I really meant is that it's something you have to do there but that isn't really necessary online.
Now I said the same thing twice. That's what happens when you think for fifteen minutes before writing a sentence and then writing another and pausing another fifteen.
Due to the way online communication works is that it's usually better to be "direct" online. One of the major reasons for this is that you can't really tell what a person is by the tone of voice or body language online. So it's always best to be as straightforward as possible online while in the Real World (tm) you'll want to take it slower.
That's what I meant. Probably.

On the other hand not censoring yourself and being "an asshole" may connect you to just the kind of people you want to connect with rather than the "shallow and polite" acquintances that can sometimes occur in that dreaded "real life".
So for some politeness is just that social construct used to hide our true selves :D

I don't think a lot profanity of any kind really helps your writing, regardless of who the characters are. Just like a person who swears a lot in real life is not very articulate and creative, having a lot of profanity in your writing shows that the writer is not very articulate and creative.
You cannot say that the swearing in Deadwood isn't creative. I cannot see how swearing in text (prose) could have anything to do with a lack of articulation or creativity. To be honest I don't think I've ever read anything that had profanity and would have supported your claim. (Anything published that is.)
To me (although I guess I already posted in this topic) swearing often grounds a story into a sense of reality. Basically I don't expect swearing in a fairy tale or legend but I expect swearing in the actual events that later would become the fairy tale or legend.

I don't mind any kind of language. I like my profanities as much as the next guy as long as it's consistent. Having a previously non-swearing character swear sucks just as much as it generally does when someone steps out of character.
I probably also agree with WIP that those small RM2k cute anime people going around swearing does feel a bit strange and that's probably the biggest issue I have with the swearin'.

Most underrated and overrated RPGs
For overrated I'd say that Baldur's Gate seems pretty overrated. Though people seem to be saying that it's the 2 that was great and that the first one wasn't. Still they always say Baldur's Gate and I couldn't think very highly of that game at all (in fact I didn't even bother with the second one).
For underrated I am not too sure. Temple of Elemental Evil is a pretty sweet game that doesn't get enough love in my opinion. (Though like all "underrated" games it seems everyone who tries it likes it) Once upon a time I would have put the rest of the Troika trilogy (Arcanum, Bloodlines) in underrated too but they're pretty popular nowadays methinks.
Oh, Oblivion and Fallout 3 are obviously overrated games. They're so overrated it's sickening to watch.
Fuck Fallout 3. In the ass. With a shovel.

Inglourious Basterds.
I could see how taking out a couple of chapters might have shortened the film without doing too much to it. But I do think the actual scenes themselves are perfectly paced in 90% of the cases.
Of course I personally would have loved to see more chapters. Perhaps having more stuff on the Basterds, though I also appreciate how the Basterds didn't really "fit into" the move. They were more of a legend than real characters and a perfect backdrop.
