How do you like your hero?
I like to pick my own heroes through dialogue choices and actions. (Which usually means the hero is a goodhearted man/woman that helps old ladies cross the street while trying to maintain a tough exterior and failing miserably.)
If I can't pick my own hero then I don't really mind as long as the character is well-written. I almost prefer snarky self-aware characters. The more I laugh the better, though that is probably because any attempts at going serious usually means you'll laugh anyway.
Most of all I want my hero not to be dumb. But good guys usually are. (This is why villains are so much better)

Naming Conventions - Characters, Spells, and More
Shinan has been overused in a number of things I've done. Though since I'm Shinan nowadays I've used him more and more rarely. Though once he was a character that ran around a lot.
I also tend to have a variant of Jake/Jacob/Jack in things I make. The same with Mikhail, Mikael, Michael (but not really Mike for some reason). And Samuel (after Samuel Vimes of Discworld fame, but also after my not-at-all brother Samuli)
For town I oftentimes go with Germanic sounding names. Though also stealing from my own Swedish. Town names that end with Stad/Stadt or Borg/Burg are very common. The same actually with last names. "von Whateverenelleng" or one of my favorite characters ever Edward Düsseldorf :D
And then there's just the creative ways to spell general things. The usual things such as replacing Cs with Ks and using double-wovels. (So Creative could become Kreetev, which is a nice eastern-sounding last name. Though you can go a bit west and make it Kreetef, which reminds me of the Swedish word for Count (greve) so it could be a title... Kreetef Haerluntun of the Society of Arts... Haerluntun was taken from Hurlundun which sounds like something you say when you can't come up with something else. Some letter magic later and it almost sounds like something properly fantasy)
The Ae-letter combination can be used for great effect too.

The "golden" era of PS1 console RPGs?
My golden era of RPGs was probably in about 1994 when I got my first tabletop RPG (I think it was 4th of May 1994, My eleventh birthday). A couple of weeks or months or something later the game was finally played and massive amounts of ass was kicked. Orcs were killed and adventure was born.
Of course Tabletop RPGs have only gotten better. Though I haven't been able to play nearly as many. So the games have become better but the experiences fewer and worse.
For video games my personal golden age was probably when I finally got around to playing Infinity Engine games and Fallout (first Fallout, then Infinity Engine, which was a problem because the Infinity Engine games were never as much fun as the Fallouts)

I thought "holy shit 5 minutes of trailers" but fortunately I found a shorter one on Apple Trailers. It looked pretty nice. Paul Bettany and all. Paul Bettany always rocks a bit extra.
So now I saw the longer trailer and it was probably about three minutes too long. There's only so many one-liners you can take. There's a reason why trailers are short.
But the film looks like a fun action film nonetheless.
