Plus, it's based on Philip K. Dick, and everything that guy makes is gold! I don't even like sci-fi and I love this movie. One of those movies that just outdoes itself with its cinematography.
And the funniest thing about Dick is that most of his books are basically "unfilmable". Yet there's at least twenty films based on his works.
Diplomacy
Diplomacy is too angsty a game. It's easy to take it too seriously and think that every transgression against one's borders is mean.
After all Diplomacy is the game that has destroyed friendships since 1954!

Best videogame character.

It's been ages since I played that game. But Morte... Morte he knew what to say. I especially remember when I was in a crypt getting slaughtered by zombies and I died and Morte said the uplifting words: "Talk about beating a dead horse"
Best game you personally don't like.
I don't play enough games that I know I will dislike despite being great games.
And when I actually get around to playing the games I knew I'd dislike I end up liking them (GTA III+ is a prime example of this).
Ah now I remember.
The Sims.
I can see the glory and awesomeness that is the Sims but I just don't want to play it (though I have tried it). But it's a game filled with quality that I will defend when people bash it. But it is not for me.
That's sort of how I interpreted the topic. Games I will defend despite not liking them.

Diplomacy
I definitely sent orders. I have the PM in my outbox. You should recheck that.

Do I need to start PMing everyone when a new phase starts?.
I wouldn't mind this. That way it'd be easy to notice when the new phases start with a quick glance on the site.
I also wouldn't mind turn results being posted in the post where you say "turn ended, check first post". (Or if you send a PM when a phase starts I wouldn't mind having the results in those either).
Of course these are really all convenience things that me as a lazy person would want :)
Making Fourteen Unique Characters
I just tend to steal my classes from tabletop RPGs. Of course in the end I don't even consider what they're good for from a gameplay aspect. Making fourteen differing combat characters is a pretty good feat. It's a lot easier to come up with a lot of different "civilian" unique occupations.
One thing I think you're missing in your example though is the ranged fighter. I guess the mage is essentially a ranged fighter. I guess it also doesn't always apply since oftentimes the battle systems just don't take range into account at all. (With me having been playing Empire Total War lately my artillery took out a whole enemy army so ranged combat is my friend this week.)
Another point that might be good to bring up is how the complexity of a battle system adds to the variety of combatants. Rock-paper-scissors doesn't have more than three character types and frankly doesn't need more than that. But when you add layers on the system itself the opportunities open up. (Though I think a lot of games use the rock-paper-scissors as a basis. "character x beats y who beats z who beats x")
So one way of thinking while considering the unique characters could also be "what character beats this one?" Weaknesses are just as important as strengths :)
I don't really know anything about balancing though.

Diplomacy
Will the deadline be extended? Looking at the maps I'm in severe need of diplomatic relations with the new Italian government before I make any long-standing decisions.

I wouldn't mind if the game went a little faster. As it is, we're probably just using this extra time to second guess and screw ourselves over.
That's part of the fun though isn't it? I would suggest perhaps a 3 day limit but if everyone has submitted their orders after 2 days the game proceeds anyway. That way there's the extra time if people need it and the game moves faster if everyone knows what they're going to do.
Also 12am EST Sunday that's midnight on Sunday-Monday right? and not midnight on Saturday-Sunday? Because I will have pretty limited internet access until Sunday afternoon.
