Final Fantasy IV Alter Destiny
author=Noel_Kreissauthor=SphereOkay. Still, this is gonna be fun.author=Noel_KreissIt'll be set in stone alternatives. If it was choice driven, while cool, it wouldn't be Final Fantasy IV. I'm trying to stick to the essence of what FF IV is and how it plays, while showing how things could have turned out differently for certain characters/events.
Will it just be a story of set in stone alternatives or will the story be choice driven (which would be really cool and encourage replays with different choices)?
Also, would it be possible for you to post some early battle footage? I wonder how those character sprites play out.
I don't see why not. =) I'll actually post up a video later on of the whole Intro, so you guys can see some of the battles and the iconic opening. I'll get to recording it now.

This font is too bold. Go with a regular one, please.
I was actually thinking about using a derivative of FF 4's GBA font, though obviously anti-aliased and all. I'll keep looking, thanks for the critique.

Unrelated but if you're going to be using Fomar's ATB, I can give you the fixes I made for UPRC. Fomar's ATB is pretty buggy and needed several things fixed, and Fomar himself seems to have long abandoned public scripting.
That would be awesome, thank you. :) I did have to dabble into Fomar's coding to make it work correctly with some of the other scripts and the Journey system already, but if you've got better fixes I'm definitely down with that.

Well at least your not doing a complete remake, someone on this site already did that.
I played FF 4 on the psone, can't say I remember much about the story. Thought it was a tad over rated.
It's definitely not a remake, and maybe the alternative plot might appeal to you over the original story? For me, this is not just a labor of love, but of something I've wanted to do ever since I was a kid and I first played FF IV. So, while this game will be soaked in nostalgia, I hope the alternative story told makes the game feel fresh and 'new'.

Cool project! Can't wait to see what you come up with. If you are looking at Legend of Balance's maps, I would just look at them more to see how the tiles fit together more then anything else, since most of our mapping isn't amazing. There's quite a few places that we use the tiles available in FF4. I agree with Rydiamist that you should check out the other FF games good map design though~
I'll be keeping that in mind (I'm looking at Blackmoon Prophecy 2 for mapping inspiration as well), and thanks for the support! =)

Instant sub, FF4 is my favorite game, and I'd love to see an alternate version of it in the works.
Thank you! I hope you enjoy it when it releases!

Thanks for the kind words! In all honesty though, if you want some examples of good FF mapping you should really check out Blackmoon Prophecy 2. It uses 16-bit tiles, but you can still see the principles of good FF-style map design. UPRC makes gorgeous maps, his world maps especially are to die for.
If you have any questions about scripting etc, feel free to ask.
I loved the first Blackmoon Prophecy, and now you've got me checking out the second one. =) I'm looking forward to that one releasing, that's for damn sure. Thanks for the support RydiaMist!

First of all, I am honored that you would draw so much inspiration from my game! Secondly, this is definitely an interesting idea. I have played romhacks of FF4 that did something similar, but using RM you have a lot more leeway for changes. As an obvious FF4 fan I am looking forward to where you go with this!
One thing though, and I'm not trying to cause trouble... but you mentioned using LoB as a guide. That's fine, but I do ask that you please ask first if you are going to be taking any scripts or non-ripped resources. I have personally edited/rewritten large sections of many of the scripts in LoB, and have written several from scratch just for the game. Plus, I have them set up in a way that really is not friendly to copy pasting (this is intentional).
Good luck with your game! =)
Your game really is amazing! And any resources taken are either ripped or I found them elsewhere online (especially art assets like the battle sprites/sword on the title screen). The scripting actually was set up from scratch, as I purposefully wanted to avoid using your own scripting so that my game could have its own voice.
I do use your project for inspiration mostly in relation to mapping and sequencing (and battle animations because those are a bitch lol). I do hope that my game does FF 4 some justice, and I hope you enjoy when it releases. =)

"Lastly, a huge shutout and thank you to the dev of Legend of Balance. Your game was an inspiration and tremendous guide for me, and it's awesome."
Yet the name of said dev is absent from your credits list. Hopefully this is not the case in-game.
That's because when I submitted this thing it was 3 in the morning. That's entirely my fault I missed that, but I've corrected it on here, and I had already added them by name in-game. :)

Got a link to this Journey battle system you're using? You said the Battle Log had no effect so I'd like to try to make a compatibility patch.
It's basically the translated version of Takentai. Link is here - http://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?/topic/25667-%E2%97%84journey-battle-system-v03%E2%96%BAtankentai-translation-project/
I think your Battle Log script does work with Takentai (untranslated), but yeah, I dunno why it doesn't work with the translated version (Journey). Thanks!
