That would require either judges who are willing to sit down and play every single game listed.
OR
Have a system that allows a game to only be eligible to win one Misao. If it gets nominated for multiple ones, the category that has the most votes for it is the category it would win the award in, and all other categories would be open to other projects.

I think having a small team of selected officials, a Misao Committee, should decide the winners of each category after the nomination period closes and then picks out the top 3 in each particular category. So basically the nomination process would basically remain the same like before, with users nominating their favorite games, and what not, and then it just comes down to the Misao Committee at the end on deciding on what game should win and what not. This way the people elected to the Misao Committee wouldn’t have to basically play EVERY game that was released that year, just the ones that got nominated the most.

Also, we should change the rules a little about user’s eligibility when it comes to nominating a game to make things a bit more fair and cut down on any shady looking activity. These users have to have had their account open for more than 3 months and at least have more than 50 makerscore to allow eligibility for nominating any games for any Misaos.

So another year, another Misao sweeping. Seriously, we really need to start talking about implementing some necessary changes to the voting / nominating system for next year’s Misaos, otherwise I fear that this will be an ongoing, continuing trend for even more years to come that will just continue to result in p**sing more people off.

I don’t mind a single entry winning pretty much everything if it truly deserves to do so – and I’m not saying that Oneshot doesn’t deserve some of the awards that it ended up winning – but almost all of them, including Technical Prowess or even Best Characters!? I mean, it’s tough for me to get mad about it, because Oneshot was one of the best games that I played all last year, and I’m glad that even Dreaming Mary got a couple of Misaos too, but – come on, there are so many other finer choices out there!!! It just makes me overall very sad.

I mean, it just sucks to see such wonderful other gems released this year, like Enelysion, It Moves, Luxaren Allure and even Pocket Quest get nothing but a “thanks for just being here” and just toss them out with all the leftovers at a dinner party for all the rats and homeless people to go eat afterwards. At least last year I felt that the Misaos were going in the right direction, as we had five different games pick up multiple different awards. This year it was just four.

Oh well… Congratulations Oneshot, Dreaming Mary, HOME (that I have yet to play as of yet) and Stray Cat Crossing for picking up this year’s Misaos. Hold those up high, my friends, for that it is something that most people, such as myself, will never reach. :)

Corfaisus, there's no need to be an ass. So you don't like games like this? Then move on. You had a say (all over the place, we get it, you don't like the game).

Honestly, it's not like there are a ton of other games (FF5, FF6 for example) that use the diagonal staircase effect. Or fangame of an indie game - Home for example (OFF fangame). So, you know, stop being a dick about it.

Frankly, I also played both and while there are some themes that are alike, it's not like Yume Nikki at all. Just like a lot of Earthbound-looking games aren't Earthbound.

I can guarantee you that a lot of the votes for HOME do not share your scruples. :V
