Turn-Based...dead?

author=Max McGee
I have no interest in RPGs that aren't either classically turn-based (Final Fantasy 1-10) or in first person real time (Oblivion). I think this, actually, more than anything else, is why I did not enjoy Dragon Age.

Does anyone feel the same way?

Not really, because like humans, I tend to judge them on an individual basis rather than a preconceived list of expectations. I bet there is at LEAST one game out there that uses a very different battle system that would really, really appeal to you.

And I do not mean 'preconceived expectations' such as "This game should not be boring," but more like "It MUST have a classic turn-based combat system"

What are you thinking about right now?

CociCookie's post echoes how I felt when I started playing Persona 4 and the voice acting, characterization and writing was so hideously inferior to Persona 3

Should giant shops be broken up?

author=LockeZ
Every game I've ever played in my life has decided it's better to split shops up after they pass a certain size, and I can't think of any downside to doing so.

I agree and feel like this thread was specifically posted to feel like it was generating meaningful discussion

Although I can say that his game DOES have a ton of different weapons that you MIGHT consider useful at the same time...

I've never played twewy so is this a bad thing? Or do I simply lose points for lack of originality?

No more points than anybody else who has ever used a rip.

Yeah Deathnotes still etched in my brain but hope you get what I'm trying to put across.

In Praise of Completion: Why Craze is Remaking this Game

This remake is an incredibly different game.

If your game does not catch a person's interest within the first fifteen minutes, it can definitely be improved.
I agree with this, but with the caveat of "...or the game is not a good fit for that person".

People's tastes are different, and perhaps that person isn't your ideal target audience.

I completely agree. It seems to be the trend, though, to raise an outcry based on this. Something like "you aren't my ideal target audience so you can't review my game (accurately)" which I really don't agree with.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you're putting a lot of time and effort into this, A+

I hate when things get over explained..

In FF8 there was a power to just turn the combat off.

I really don't remember this feature at all, unless you're referring to the No Encounters ability, which has been present in every FF since, like, 5, and is usually a mid- or endgame power.

Does anyone think this review is biased.

author=Alex898
Well I'll have to check it out then to see for myself. All I'm saying is that on RPG Maker websites people blast games for being long, regardless of whether they are good or not.

I've honestly never seen this complaint unless the length was artificial bloat.

I'd also like to reiterate:

You do not have to play a game from start to finish and beat the extra optional final endgame boss to judge it.

I thought games like this was judged based on it's content, story, and gameplay,
Funny, because it addresses this in the title of the review: In a World of Broken Gameplay and Confusing Stories...
