VOLRATH'S PROFILE

I'm a journalist/author with a fondness of RPG Making and an aversion to leaving projects unfinished - great for satisfaction, not so much for quantity. I'm married and live in Cromwell, CT with my wife, twin sons, and the dog.

I admit it, I laughed.

Let's Play, Labyrinthine Dreams

Thanks for another highly satisfying video, CC. You had some good insights, especially about the mapping.

The bit with the dialogue repeating for the Monster mazes...I think that's a problem with the autosave so a switch wouldn't help. You're basically getting a quick Game Over when you hit the monster and then the autosave starts. It bugs me too so hopefully we'll come up with some way to fix that.

Labyrinthine Dreams Review

With the No Left Turn mazes, it's all about making little squares with your movement. If you look at it with that frame of mind, it gets much easier.

I'd say the peak of difficulty is Monster Maze 6. I've obviously played this several times and that one always gives me trouble. Monster Maze 7 is tough too, but there's so much space available that it's not quite as easy to screw yourself over.

Looking forward to that video, CC!

Labyrinthine Dreams Review

Thanks! Glad you had a good time with it.

There are probably some things we can do to reduce the potential frustration factor on some of the puzzles. We'll have to think that over. Appreciate the feedback!

Okay, serious stuff now. Custom artwork hurrraaay~

I knew I recognized that art style. It's lookin' good. Fun fact - my hair is very similar to that right now...I haven't had a haircut in God knows how long.

Master of the Wind

Thanks for the detailed feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed the game at least somewhat, despite the various issues you raise.

At this point, it's highly unlikely anything about MotW will change. It's been done for a few years now and it's getting old (the earlier content in particular). Some design decisions are probably quite dated. But we learned a lot from the various critiques people had over the years and we intend to apply them to future work. It's true that MotW is a highly linear game with many mini-games and puzzles that can be challenging. This is not for everyone, but then again a lot of people liked the game very much for these very things that you are critical of. Can't please everyone, so you should make sure your work pleases you, and I'm pretty happy with how everything turned out in the end with MotW, even if I'd do some things differently if we were doing it now.

Titlescreen in action

Wow, that came out real nice.

Homework Salesman

This game's really fun and very polished. I'd highly recommend that you folks give it a shot this weekend.

[Poll] Judging whether to download a game? What do you look for?

I picked Creator, that's the honest truth these days. I wish I still had the time to download ones at random and try them out, but the real world demands more attention as I get older. I make sure to play games by people I consider friends, although I can be persuaded to try stuff if those friends recommend it to me.

The game he's playing also winds up being part of the process of getting information from a kid in the arcade for a case he's working on.
