WIP'S PROFILE
I made this site and it's awesome. But I don't run it anymore. Now I'm just a plebe like you.

An Official *English* Version of 2k3 Approaches!
author=dragonheartmanauthor=WIPWhat would you say about those who have invested a decent amount of time into their 2k/3 projects? I understand there are better engines, but I want to finish something rather than start over.
Honestly there aren't any logical reasons to want this.
The prospect of seeing the issues with 2k3 getting officially addressed (rather than hacked and patched over) is enough for me to support this.
I'll clarify my stance on this as you do ask a valid question.
I'm wagering they won't fix issues inside the core system. As has been stated numerous times in this thread, there are many nasty bugs in the engine. Those things cannot be translated out. They require access to the actual source code, as well as the entire toolchain they used to compile the engine. Not that it is impossible, but I am doubting they kept their toolchain to build an engine and editor from over a decade ago. Did you know the Wii version of Okami had some brand new in-game assets made for it? It wasn't because they wanted to improve them. Capcom literally lost them. Within a span of about three years.
My post was more assuming they weren't going to do anything about fixing the actual engine issues. In that case, you'd basically throw $20 to someone to make sure you can resolve your guilt of continuing to use illegally obtained software with third-party fixes.

I was glad to see some flames ignite here.
I think a "do the right thing!!!" argument is grasping at some very flimsy straws. The "right thing" in this scenario would amount to a company making money off old crufty software so sinners can feel better about themselves.
"Nobody ever asked" is also a crock. EB's known that there's been a US following for their products for a good fifteen years. Their rampant incompetency doesn't really need excusing or blood money. And for the record, I would also be in favor of taking your money to give you some old software. All you need to do is ask!
Honestly there aren't any logical reasons to want this. There's newer and better products available. There are plenty of emotional issues caught up in this. Whether you feel this will help EB's bottomline (which disgusts me as EB has pissed away goodwill for years now), buying off your guilt or what, it boils down to if you want to give them $20. I've given $20 away for sillier reasons and most here probably have as well.

I'm not part of this community, but I do follow a few folks on twitter that brought me to this.
It seems like an amazingly wasteful effort, but that doesn't really matter. Had this happened about a decade ago when it would have mattered, absolutely. Now it is basically like EB asking people if they would like to purchase some old junk they have laying around in their basement. rmBay.com???
There are legitimate points for its release to satiate peoples' hunger for reconciliation with their inner guilt. Unfortunately it won't legitimize the dreadful things made with it.

+++ DynRPG - The RM2k3 Plugin SDK +++
I am all for spending time where you want, Cherry. I have a lot of experience creating things that aren't worth it (see: this site).
I was just making fun of people who are like WHOA THE DAWN OF THE FOURTH AGE OF MAN.
Also I am curious as to why you think the performance of a dynamic language plugin would be lacking. The languages themselves run at a totally acceptable rate due to today's disturbing amount of processing power in PCs. It's better these days to throw more hardware at processing problems than having to worry about cutting edge algorithm optimization.

RMVXA already has a better editor interface and scripting interface. Because I'm bored and people here are silly, let's talk about this!!!
It's quite cool adding in hooks to 2K3. Unfortunately it's a totally academic project and really doesn't serve anything but an antiquated community.
The community of RMlets can't even write their own Ruby scripts, let alone native code plugins. Nobody is going to write their own fucking plugins. They're going to wait for other people to write them. Since the barrier to entry is too high, not many plugins will end up getting made, and everyone will just use the same plugins that probably aren't great.
LockeZ, WolfCoder owned your ass. C++ is fucking nothing like Ruby other than LOL THEY BOTH HAVE IF STATEMENTS. Totally different worlds and styles of languages.
With RPG Maker VX Ace coming out soon and pretty much wiping out all the major issues VX had against RM2K3, there's far more incentive to ride that blazing trail than this dead-end.
