Exactly:) That is the whole point of the character switch. Sonic Advance 3 had the same exact concept. Knuckles is the only character who could break walls. Sonic and tails had a extremely high leap frog move that enabled them to reach impossible areas.

The point of the game is to use each unique character's skills to complete certain stages.

The health bar idea is good too. I would have to make it smaller though. I'll probably have alot of that done this week:)

Good Thinking! I'll have to create 2 health bars for P1 and for P2 and when you switch, so does the Health bar. If one character is dead, the other will have to do it alone and the other player could be revived at one of the prayer statues or just come back until all the lives are lost.

It would be good for puzzle solving as well. For example, If I chose Lydia and Kiki and there was an impossible to reach ledge, Kiki could use her jet pack and fly over to it and continue from there. However, Since Kiki can't break magical barriers, Lydia would have to break them with her magic spells.

Oh, OK:) that makes more sense. That would be better so that I would only have to create 2 health bars or have them share one bar. Sharing a bar would be harder although it makes no sense. So I may have to create a 2P healthbar. I may even do co-op in the future.

Great:) That is probably the final character select decision for the game. Before, I wanted to have you choose 2 characters, but who would want to choose 2 when you could switch between all of them?

I am working on the game even as we speak. The next thing I want to add is another character and to fix Bai(orochii's character).

Thanks:) I am finally done with 2 HUB maps. The boss you've seen in the demo is a placeholder boss for the real thing btw. I also have a question about character selection. After unlocking each one, should you be able to select any character at any given time? Each character will be able to reach certain parts of the HUB map and play certain levels. In HUB maps pressing shift(or some other key) could open up the character switch.

Think of it like Lufia: Curse of the sinistrals.

Good Catch:)Thanks for saying something because I would have never seen that.

I haven't changed the HUD back yet, but I have been working on HUB worlds inspired by sonic advance 3 and Kirby's Adventure. I have replaced the linear stage map with HUB maps. There will be several Miniature maps that feature stages that are able to be completed in any order. However, the boss crystal will appear if you have completed all 3 stages in each realm. They originally had 6 stages, but I decided to divide it in half for better stage development.

After visiting a realm, you can re-visit the previous ones and play any stage you like. In some cases you have to re-visit old stages to collect key items to progress through the game. That way you won't be able to blast through the game.

For example, in order to get into Snow Sanctuary, you'll need to melt the block of ice in the stage, so you have to go back to Magma Mountain and retrieve the fire orb hidden through one of the stages.

You will also be able to activate the character selection through HUB worlds.

Finally Back!!

I just created the HUB world system and it works perfectly, now I have to make more characters starting with Kiki.

Finally Back!!

Sorry about that Gourd. I was mad about waiting too. I couldn't work on it due to so many roadblocks in my life. Senior year in high school is chaotic. But, I graduate next tuesday, so I will be able to work on this plenty. But, thank you for helping me out. Developing games is more fun when you have other people to critique and help you make decisions.

Finally Back!!

That would be a great Idea:) I could use an intro stage like Mega Man 7/X did. I had plans on making them unlockable as you go, but some of them will be hidden in some stages.

I wanted to change the level progression to a HUB map so it will be less linear. Good catch on the characters not knowing each other! I will have to do something with that.

Possible character meets could be something like...
  • Saving them from a monster/boss in a scene
  • finding them
  • helping with a task
  • fighting them
  • Sight
