I haven't changed the HUD back yet, but I have been working on HUB worlds inspired by sonic advance 3 and Kirby's Adventure. I have replaced the linear stage map with HUB maps. There will be several Miniature maps that feature stages that are able to be completed in any order. However, the boss crystal will appear if you have completed all 3 stages in each realm. They originally had 6 stages, but I decided to divide it in half for better stage development.
After visiting a realm, you can re-visit the previous ones and play any stage you like. In some cases you have to re-visit old stages to collect key items to progress through the game. That way you won't be able to blast through the game.
For example, in order to get into Snow Sanctuary, you'll need to melt the block of ice in the stage, so you have to go back to Magma Mountain and retrieve the fire orb hidden through one of the stages.
You will also be able to activate the character selection through HUB worlds.
Here is what I want the HUB world and character selection to be like

PROGRESS REPORT! ALMOST THERE!
Your doing very good with this game's progress. Although I have 2 requests
1) For testers- could you enable the "Save State" option in game maker so that it will allow testers to save states where they want to and load them when they want to test something over again? When you officially release the game, you could disable it though. I would like to have it so that I can save states at certain points and play them over. In game maker, Saving is F5 and loading is F6. It would be very convenient and it would make testing levels less frustrating.
2) do you think that it will be possible to add Bass and Protoman when the game is complete for extra DLC? You don't have to, but it would be nice. It would increase replay value and content.

Mega Man: Revenge of the Fallen
This game is great:) Your level designs are a lot harder than I thought and I like that. Mega Man games have always been about challenge and this game captures that accurately.I will be testing throughout the next few weeks or so and give you feedback on anything.

OK then:) I'll change it back to the original if more than one person says so. The only thing that was arranged was the lives box, so I'll put that back and possibly turn some other things back to normal. Thanks for all of your feedback.
@MarkusT- I'm glad that you like it:) This game's grpahical style is heavily based on the Monster World Games(AKA Wonderboy). I'm doing the best i can to create that kind of gameplay, but it has more drive to it.

Do you like the original better? The one shown here is edited on a non-official file, so I could change it back if you'd like. Or, I got a better idea, what if you could toggle locations of the HUD with a key instead of having one set location?

I am happy to announce that Fantasia is now back on production again:) To prove it here is the latest update on the arrangement of the HUD that was in my "TO DO" list. I may possibly remove the LEVEL and EXP until another game. The good thing is, its not in your way as much as it was.
Here is what has been done.
Here is a pic of the previous HUD

Here is what has been done.
- The HP and MP bars were cut in half
- Lives were moved and "time" is now a clock
- Boss HP was cut in half
- Levels have been redone due to some unnecessary difficulty(Coconuts)(Spikes)(Pits)
- New Monsters
- Normal Monster HP bars show when you strike a monster
- Cleaning up bits of code and getting rid of unnecessary things

FANTASIA: Development(3)
Exactly. You'll be able to switch like sonic heroes, but you will be able to select your own characters like sonic advance 3. I might do partner moves as well.
Each character will either share the same health bar or use separate ones. I also plan on adding a basic combo system and super moves that deal intense damage.
Lately, I've been looking at games such as Project X Zone(3DS 2013), Marvel vs Capcom 3(PS3) and a lot of other games and I've been trying to improve Fantasia in as many ways possible. I also plan on adding a HUB world instead of the linear map. That way you can choose the stages you want to play over and over again. If I do this, the stages would have to be better developed for each characters path . Basically, I want to use a lot of Sonic Advance 3 systems while mixing a ton of other elements.
The stages will branch off into several directions that specific characters can reach with their abilities. For Example, Lydia can wall jump, but Bai has the strength to break extremely hard walls. Kiki can hover and fly to reach impossible areas and Sayuri can break elemental barriers.

The third progression type is based off of Sonic Advance 3.You will also be able to choose which stages you play even after clearing them. I agree that the pencils do look good, but the tree does need some work. I'm not using the big ones though, I'm going to use the smaller ones.
Also, I'm not having problems adding Kiki, I'm having problems with getting a computer so I can work on this game. I have done so much development since the last update and I can't wait to implement them. I think Kiki's basic gameplay mechanic will play like Classic Mega Man, but she will have the abilities you explained to me.

So you want to be a game developer?
Thank you for sharing this article. I was beginning to lose hope for some of my projects, but this makes me want to push forward. I've read articles about how to make certain game genres (Specifically Platformers and RPGs). You've basically said it all and this would be a huge inspiration to anyone who is designing a game for the first time or above (regardless of genre).
You probably know of a game called "Fantasia" on here and I am having some development issues. I have too many Ideas, but I'm afraid if I add too many "Features" in the game, I'll lose sight of what my priorities are and it will be a huge, unorganized mess. I have too many resources such as....
and I'm not sure what to eliminate or save for other games. Before reading this I thought about cancelling it(Which I really don't want to do after how deep I am into it).
However, reading this really made me more knowledgeable about developing a game.
Whenever I feel down about a project's design and development, I'll remember the time I read this and revive hope for them. Thank you very much kentona:)

There isn't much I can do with the area now. I was just putting the finishing touches on it. The next stage I need to design is a Neon Amusement Park/Carnival. I have been designing the game alone for some time, but it would be even more fun if I could include some more people in the design process.
Anyway, I'm done with Tropical Coast and I'll Be moving on to the other 8 Areas.
